Muscle Loss Minimized From Strength Training While Losing Weight

After decades of yo-yo dieting these last 16 months I’ve (48F) finally made lifestyle changes that has allowed me to lose weight without extremes. I have focused on making sure I get enough protein and fiber. And I’ve reduced my added sugar, but not restricted it.

I also have been consistent with strength training thanks to Apple Fitness+. This has helped me to minimize my muscle loss as I’ve lost weight. The weight loss has come from choices in the kitchen. But, the strength training had been just as beneficial to me.

My goal continues to be not being frail as I age. That’s why I have a routine of walks, strength, core, and yoga I do most days a week. I feel stronger, I’m more flexible, and I feel better than I did before I started exercising consistently.

Side note: The screenshot is from the Bevel app’s AI analysis of my weight stats I shared with it. I absolutely love the Bevel app. I highly recommend it.

It Took 16 Months…

It took me (F48) 16 months after getting scleral lenses for me to forget to take them out before I got in the shower. Thankfully I remembered pretty quickly when I couldn’t see my armpit to shave. I kept soap out of my eyes and kept my lenses on my eyeballs.

My fear since day 1 was I’d forget and then they’d wash down the drain. I’m not sure how realistic that is. But, I’m glad that fear didn’t happen today.

I’ve seen posts here saying people have showered with their lenses on. So I finished my shower when I realized and hoped for the best. But man, that first realization was an oh fuck moment. 😂

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome in 2000 at age 22. Since then it’s always been about managing flares. When Bevel added AI I hoped it’d be able to see patterns with flares by me logging different actions and symptoms. Today I got my first alert of a possible flare if I went for my normal walk after a rough night of sleep.

I feel the most outta shape during the warm up of an upper body strength workout. I am so bummed when the coach is like, “ok let’s do all that again”. Why does the warm up feel harder than the workout? 😂
