Spent some time visiting German friends in their home town who refused any contributions to expenses. Is this a German tradition?

We visited some friends in Germany/Saarland from Canada. We had an apartment in the town they live in. Every day they insisted we go to their home for breakfast and dinner.

They would drive us around to all the nearby villages and fairs but would not accept any money for petrol or any other expenses.

I feel we may have offended the spouse by giving her husband money for petrol and giving gifts, since we seemed obliged to give us something in return.

In Canada, or at least in our family and friends, it would be normal to share in the expenses but I wonder if in Germany when you have guests, you must treat them or show them hospitality that has no expectations of contributions or paying back...

It felt quite awkward being treated this way but I can see that in some cultures that's the way it is...

We (our home) have a Bosch dryer model # WMTC4321CN/05 that stopped working last. Does anyone have a schematic diagram. There's power to the control board, door switch, drum light, yet the digital display doesn't light up.

Edit: that should read in the heading: "Stopped working last evening" and the model number is WTMC4321CN/05, not WMTC.....

I'm guessing a control board problem but there aren't any obvious signs, such as burnt smell, bugling caps or burnt components.

While I'm waiting for a price for a control board, if I had a diagram (there isn't one in the machine on on any of the panels) I could trace it out and maybe spot something else that's an issue...

We're renting a car with Enterprise in Germany through Costco using the CIBC Costco Mastercard. All the enquiries we've made though phone calls with Mastercard, CIBC and Enterprise, we're told that there isn't any auto car rental insurance inlcuded using theCostco credit car..yet Googling ..

I get an answer that it comes with some basic coverage. What coverage have you taken doing Europe car rental going with the Costco credit card?
