Front USB/SD Card impossible to use on the Ugreen DX4800 Plus

Hello,

I am new to the TrueNAS community. I started setting up my NAS, not easy at first, but I'm getting along slowly!

I had my pools set up properly, and now I wanted to see how to have a proper workflow by dropping my pictures/videos from work to the NAS using the USB and SD card in the front, but the option to mount it has apparently been removed a few years ago...

Is there any easy solution to transfer files quickly? It is very frustrating because it would let me use the USB from my docking station to work on other things, and if I want to transfer from the docking station, it doesn’t really use a good speed even though the MacBook is connected with a 10GBps Ethernet cable.

I saw the possibility to do it with the Shell, but that's not an option, it's not ergonomic at all.

I hope you can help!

Thanks in advance :)

Is 8gb RAM enough for photographers?

Hi, I’m thinking about getting the Ugreen DX4800 Plus as my main files system to edit photos & videos for my clients through 10gbps network.

I’d like to install also an app via container to have my clients reviewing files.

Since the NAS comes with 8gb I would like to know how good it is tu run what I need?
I will probably add an SSD to have my running project and then move it to my HDD when the deliverables has been validated. And also an extra 8gb of ram.

I hope you can help me on that!
Thanks

Portable Workstation MiniHomeLab 4-6 bay NAS instead of general consumer solution.

Hey everyone,

I’m planning a custom DIY NAS build, but I have a specific setup in mind and would love a quick check because I’ve never done one. I’m used to build different kind of desktop but never done more complicated than that.

I want something modular that I can completely disassemble and flat-pack into a suitcase. Plus, I want full control to upgrade hardware and expand into other home lab projects later on.

Main Use Case & Concept:
Workflow: Editing photos in Lightroom and video projects in DaVinci Resolve directly from my MacBook Pro over a fast connection with 10gbps Ethernet.

Build Idea:
A 10" mini-rack frame
Rack 4–6 HDDs
NVMe SSD for fast working cache
Main question here: what hardware system should I use? Mini thinkcenter or HP computer? How made hardware, but in this case is there empty desktop case as rack?
Also, how do I cool down the HDD? Is it going to be very noisy without closed case?

I love the idea of a mini home lab since I love working on these kind of electronics projects but I’m not sure it makes sense.
I might want to host services as well in the future or even website for my clients etc.

I would appreciate a lot some brighter mind that me to help me with this idea.

Thanks in advance!

My SteamMachine (pre-rampocalypse)

I was lucky enough to get all components ~2 months before prices started to get crazy with RAM in 2025.

- Lian Li A3-mATX
- MSI Pro B650M-A WiFi
- MSI MAG A750GL 80GoldPlus
- ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT
- AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
- 2x16go TeamGroup DDR5-6000 CL-30 (for $115 and today $560 🫠)
- NVME 1to Western Digital SN350
+ 1 old Sata SSD for dual boot.

I first used Bazzite and the goal was to switch to SteamOS once it’s public, which is what I have now.
And I have Windows installed on the Sata SSD just in case I have to play multiplayer games with anti cheats with friends.
SteamOS so far has been perfect! Just does what it needs, the desktop is fully customizable and looks sick now!

I’ve got the SteamController 2 as well, i love it! I think the price is fair compare to all the features it offers.

I also have an HDMI cable going to my TV with extended USB dock so I can play casual couch gaming as well (I tried Streaming Gaming but it sucks and I can’t find why, always some latency that I hate).

Very disappointed for the real SteamMachine but it opened a mini gaming PC market and I love that idea!

Oculus Rift S - future compatibility

Hello!
Just change my OS from Bazzite to SteamOS (that was the original plan) and I took back home my Oculus Rift S, I didn’t think about it but I just noticed that it’s not compatible on Linux, is there a chance that an update will make it possible once the new Steam Frane is out?

For now I use windows with dual boot to use it but I’d prefer to get all my game at the same place 👌🏻

Can I install Dual Boot?

Hi,

I actually have Bazzite as my main OS with windows for dual boot.
Now that SteamOS 3.8 has been official I want to switch Bazzite to SteamOS, since I heard SteamOS doesn’t support Dual Boot very well I was wondering if I could simply unplug my SSD with windows, install SteamOS normally and replug the Windows SSD to have access to it at startup if needed?

Or is it more complicated than that?

Dead pixel… Nikon can fix it?

Hi, I bought my Nikon Z6III in November 2024 and I’ve got what looks like a dead pixel already… I had the same thing happening to my Nikon Z6 first version years ago but I didn’t care much because I less work.

Is this something handled by the warranty? And do you have an idea of the price to fix this by Nikon if I really need to do it at some point?
Love their product but I feel the durability is not as good as it used to be with the DSLR :(

So happy (and lucky) to get my hand on this second hand watch from a very nice Korean for $340USD at this condition!

It’s closer to ~$530USD in Korea with import taxes and not always easy to find Seiko at first…

Maybe the beginning of a collection after getting into Casio watch before that!

And it’s all perfectly aligned 🙌🏻

Have a nice day wearing watches ⏱️
