Running a sort of sequel to Out of the Abyss in my DnD 5.5e campaign. Did a few sessions with some fun DIY setups.
-Climbing up the cliff to infiltrate the fortress with a piece of sheet metal and spiders stuck to the side with magnets.
-A large setup with foam stone blocks and 3D printed suspension bridge, stalactite tower, TV map with a "hydroarcanical" dam, and the drider lair with hanging wire spider nest.
My party brought Oscar Yoren to the Queen of Thieves, then decided they wanted to collect on River's bounty. QoT stopped them until the party delivered eldritch lillies and Oscar gave her aqua expurgo. Then she gave them Oscar's location as the party's favor for beating Big Linda.
Trouble is 3 of the party gave Oscar their blood (he said he wanted uncontaminated blood to test) AND the bard jokingly picked up Oscar's toad/quasit familiar and have been carrying it around as a pet for 20 sessions. Of course between scrying and the familiar listening to everything the party has been planning Oscar prepared a trap of 3 delerium mutated "dark" versions of the party to ambush them when they came waltzing into his new lab.
Some great DnD from this awesome adventure book.
I vote turn based. BG3 and other games proved the original thinking that turn based is boring was totally wrong. I think the janky AI and open to exploits of the real time (kiting, only revealing part of the enemies etc...) really hurt the game play.
What would you want the base ruleset of the game to be? Clearly there would have to be compromises to whichever ruleset based on the engine/play style etc
I'd pick 5.5e or the 2e BG2 version, either would make me happy. Id love them to fully embrace it as a tied in project to get more people into tabletop DnD, so I went with 5.5e.
What would you want the the basic visual/engine style of a remade original BG saga?
I think a 3D locked isometric would cut down on dev costs/time and be able to stay true to the original feel.
Has anyone played with upcasting spells?
Magic missile - cast at tier 3, gives 2d4 darts, DC 13 spell check, use the tier 3-4 mishap table. Tier 5, 3d4 darts, DC 15, uses Tier 5 mishap table.
Compared to lightning bolt tier 3 -3d6 in a line or fireball 4d6 in near.
Tier 5 prismatic orb - 3d8.
Spells like sleep/hold person I'd say upcasting increases the level effected in a similar way (balanced against other spells at that tier that do similar things).

When: 5:30 pm ish to 8:45 pm ish
What: DnD 5.5e, with a little Shadowdark home brewed in, party is trapped in the underdark along with part of the city of Silverymoon that has fallen in after a drow attack and massive magical earthquake.
-Currentlty level 4, (Monk, Fighter, Cleric, Tome Warlock)
All of us are in our 30s/40s, 4 guys, 1 gal.
Cost: Gators charges $7.50 a session/$30 a month per player for the space/accessories.
Looking for: 1-2 players, newcomers welcome, happy to entertain non-standard character build/classes ideas subject to DM review.
