Kvothe’s first performance at the Eolian

I was just listening to NOTW while at work today and the chapter before his performance for his pipes at the Eolian, Sim asks him when he’s going to try for his pipes and Kvothe says “this morning..” he then invites Sim or asks if he’s going and then they part ways and he heads to the roof on top of Mains to play for Auri and he meets with Will and Sim the next day. They go to the show and during his conversation with Stancheon, Stancheon tells Kvothe that they wait until the sun goes down before they start the music. Is this just a typo or am I missing something?

Side note: another thing I noticed that I didn’t the first 870 times I read/listened to this book. During Kvothe and Will’s conversation about the medica where Will is explaining how it works because Kvothe has to go there after getting whipped. Will doesn’t know the Aturan word for “balance” in Cealdish it’s “Shehyn” - I was listening to it so he said it the same as the head of the Adem school Kvothe attends in book 2. Just some cool foreshadowing that I found.

Parallels

Recently I was bored and decided to rewatch the BBC Sherlock show. I love that show and I love pretty much anything Sherlock Holmes. Don’t worry, I’m not going to try and compare Kvothe to Sherlock lol but they do have a few things in common. Kvothe doesn’t really display any extraordinary talent in the science of deduction though he is pretty observant. The thing Kvothe does have in common with Sherlock is a blind spot for a woman, “the woman.”

Sherlock is very rarely outwitted by anyone but his attraction to Irene Adler has always thrown him off his game. Not only in the BBC. Show but also the books and every other show or movie they are portrayed in.

Kvothe has a very similar issue with Dena. Typically, nothing can break Kvothe’s determination to find the Chandrian and exact his revenge except when she shows up, nothing else matters but her.

Unfortunately for Sherlock, Irene is usually caught up in her own schemes and has on more than one occasion been aligned with Sherlock’s archenemy, Moriarty. It’s not always clear why, sometimes Moriarty is blackmailing her to help manipulate Sherlock or he’s dangling something else she desperately needs over her head.

So I realized that Dena and Irene are very much alike. Both are beautiful, have dabbled in prostitution or have used prostitution in order to get over on someone. With Dena, admittedly the story doesn’t say that she’s been a prostitute but when she’s giving that younger girl a speech in that tavern when Kvothe is following her, you can tell that she’s at least been around it. At the very least, they both know not only how to survive as women on the streets but they know how to thrive. Both would gut you like a fish if you tried to force yourself on them.

I just thought it was interesting how alike the two of them are and I don’t think it’s coincidental. I honestly think Irene may have been the inspiration for Dena. And whenever I find a coincidence like this, I always run the name through an anagram generator and I found this

Irene Adler
Dena illeer or
E’lir Dena (with a leftover E)

I thought it was pretty cool. E’lir means Seer and I would say that is one of the things Dena has over Kvothe. She sees the world or reality a good bit better than Kvothe because of the blinders Kvothe always has. He’s always too focused on something to see the bigger picture, too caught up in his own self and his reputation to have any foresight. Dena is more grounded and experienced which is the same when it comes to Sherlock and Irene.

Nothing groundbreaking or revealing about the story but I thought it was interesting.

In need of help

Hello, I was born in Winterhaven Florida. When my mother was pregnant with me, she was working at a Howard Johnson’s hotel. She told me that she named me after the owner of the hotel and that he was in some way associated with the mafia. My mother left my father because he was a POS and that the owner let her stay in one of the rooms for free and he used to send a couple of his associates to the grocery store with her and my older brother to buy groceries. The owner’s name was Charles Burnet or Bernetti/Burnetti. His first name could have also been Sam because my first and middle name is Samuel Charles. My mother’s memory is not great as she’s in her later years. I have searched high and low and had conversations with her father some years ago but that conversation got… strange and may lead me in a different direction but I want to exhaust all possible searches for Mr Burnet/Burnetti.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the time period would be the late 1970’s.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Very curious for help

The above is from some googling I was doing to research information about a fantasy series called The Kingkiller Chronicles. I’m a member of a Reddit theory group for this series and I’m working on a couple of theories now and google is the worst for this kind of thing.

The author of this series rarely makes things up out of thin air. He spent 10 years in college just taking different courses so he could write this book. He pulls from many different cultures and names are a centerpiece to the magic system in his world. The etymology of every single name holds secrets to not only that character but also clues to the overarching story.

Sygaldry is the magic using runes in creating magical objects and tools. These are the names of the main runes we are told about in the book I believe “Ferr” is another used for iron. So my question is; do any of these mean anything in your studies of runes? I realize this is probably different than anything else posted here and I hope it’s okay to ask. Thank you in advance

A little help, please.

This is a really cool video of Xingyi, it’s beautifully performed and I love the angle and lighting. What I really want to know is if anyone here can identify the song being played. I love Chinese folk rock or modern folk music and I cannot find this song or singer. I hope it’s okay to post this here.
