North Carolina County Jails or Prisons?

I’m a 26 year old corrections deputy with about 2 years of experience at a county jail. My lease is up next year and I’m seriously thinking about relocating my family to North Carolina for better long term opportunities. The areas I’m looking at are Butner, Oxford, Hillsborough, and Wake County in general.

I’d love some real talk from people who work or have worked in NC corrections. How do the county jails compare to the state prisons in those areas? Pay, overtime, staffing. Do any of them stand out for better pay or benefits, especially for someone with prior experience?

Considering a move to Butner or possibly neighboring areas?

I’m looking at a job opportunity in Butner, North Carolina, and I’m trying to get a feel for the area or Hillsborough and other nearby towns. My family and I are potentially relocating, so I’d love any real talk from locals or people who know the region.

What are the pros and cons of Butner, Hillsborough, or surrounding spots? How are the schools, cost of living, safety, traffic, and things to do with young kids? Any neighborhoods you’d recommend or ones to avoid? Basically anything that would help us decide if this would be a good fit.

Move to Georgetown or Frankfort?

I currently live in Florence, Kentucky, but I’m in the hiring process for a job in Lexington on Leestown Road and am considering moving to either Georgetown or Frankfort. I don’t want to commute more than 30 minutes to work, and both areas seem more affordable than Lexington while also having less traffic.

For those who live in or have experience with either area, what are the pros and cons? How are the schools, safety, amenities, weather, and overall quality of life? Which would you recommend for a family with kids

Trades for someone not good at math ?

I’m trying to find a trade to get into, but I’m not sure what to do. I’m 26 and currently working as a temp at a factory in Northern Kentucky making $19.50 an hour.

I’m terrible at math, even basic math, so I’d prefer a trade that doesn’t involve a lot of it. I also have ADHD and didn’t do very well in school. I’m looking for something I can realistically learn and be successful at while making good money.

I don’t mind working overtime and actually prefer staying busy. Does anyone have any recommendations for a trade that would be a good fit for someone like me?

▲ 2 r/police

I’m considering applying for an airport police position in the Ohio/Northern Kentucky area. I previously worked for a sheriff’s office as a corrections deputy for nearly two years. Would that experience help me be a stronger candidate?

I’m also interested in hearing about the hiring process and what the academy is like.
