What's your favorite extension these days, and why?

What's your favorite extension these days, and why?

I’ll start: my current favorite extension is Focus Mode. It’s an extension that lets you open your tabs in application windows. In other words, it removes all the distractions in your browser from your field of view, allowing you to focus on a single task without getting distracted. You can even open two windows at the same time so you can read an article on one side and take notes on the other.

Give it a try and let me know what you think—it would really help me out!

What are your favorite gems that you’d like to share? 🙌

Have a great days friends ☀️

How to Hide the Tab Bar and Address Bar in Chrome (Without Going Fullscreen)

I spend most of my day inside the browser — reading, writing, working in web apps. And for a long time I had a small, stubborn problem I couldn't solve cleanly.

I wanted to hide my tabs and the address bar to focus on a single page — but still keep that page in a normal window, so I could put my notes right next to it. In fullscreen, I lose access to my other windows. Multitasking becomes impossible. And Alt-Tabbing every few seconds is its own kind of distraction.

If you've searched for a way to hide Chrome's tab bar and address bar without going fullscreen, you've probably found what I found: nothing clean.

Why fullscreen isn't the answer

On Mac, Cmd+Shift+F (or F11 on Windows) almost does it — tabs and address bar gone. But it's all or nothing. That page takes the entire screen, and you can't place another window beside it. The moment you need a second thing on screen, you're back to a wall of tabs.

What I actually wanted was simpler: one page, clean, in a window I can still move and resize.

The fix: open any page in a clean, chrome-less window

Here's what works — a small Chrome extension called Focus Mode.

Press a keyboard shortcut on any page, and that page reopens in a new window with no tabs, no address bar, no bookmarks bar. Just the page — almost like a desktop app. It's still a normal window, so you can resize it, snap it to half your screen, and keep your notes or another tab right next to it.

When you're done, press Escape (or the same shortcut) and you're back to regular browsing. Nothing is closed. Nothing is lost.

How to use it

  1. Install Focus Mode from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Open the page you want to focus on.
  3. Press the shortcut — Cmd+Shift+F on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+F on Windows — or click the extension.
  4. The page reopens in a clean, distraction-free window.
  5. Press Escape to exit.

No account. No setup. No configuration. It works on every site — long articles, Google Docs, Notion, any web app.

>

The core — hiding the clutter — is free. If you want more, Focus Mode also includes a Pomodoro timer, ambient sounds, and a site blocker. But you never need them to get the main benefit.

Here are the questions I’ve been asked most often, and here are the answers:

Can I hide Chrome's tab bar without an extension?
Not really. Chrome only hides tabs through fullscreen, which is all-or-nothing. To keep a normal, resizable window without tabs, you need an extension.

Does this work on Windows?
Yes. The shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+F.

Is it free?
Yes — hiding tabs, the address bar and bookmarks is free. The extras (Pomodoro, sounds, site blocker) are optional.

You can try it right now here: Focus Mode

You don’t need a better product, You need to talk to more people 🎯

We always think the most important thing in an extension is either the product or the marketing. But there is something more important than that.

When I first started creating my extension, it was basically just for me, to solve a problem I had. 💥

In the end, while talking with my best friend, he also asked me for the link to the extension, and that’s how I made my extension public: because another person told me they needed it.

We spend too much time trying to build the perfect product, trying to think about how people will receive our product and its features. When in reality, what you need to do is publish a bug-free version as quickly as possible, get it tested by people who have the problem your extension solves, and get feedback as quickly as possible to know what needs to be changed and adjusted.

Two months ago, when I created Focus Mode, ( its chrome extension ) it was just because I was tired of seeing my 45 tabs in my field of vision, as well as the reel bar and favorites.

Now, I’ve developed other features like quick notes, a Pomodoro timer, and URL blocking — like YouTube, X, or others — which helped improve the project and create a pro version.

I thought I had already covered everything there was to do with this extension, but even today I’m still getting new feedback that helps me keep improving the project.

The most important thing when creating an extension is to talk with people. It doesn’t matter who you talk to, just talk to as many people as possible.

This is true on the Internet, but it’s also true in real life. I don’t think I’m the only one who has had breakthroughs during 4 a.m. conversations with friends that made no sense, but helped me unblock situations.

We’ve never been so connected, but we’ve also never talked so little, because today, when developing an extension or a project, we always think we have the best idea and we’re afraid it will get stolen. But don’t forget: alone we go faster, together we go further.

Have an excellent day everyone 🌞

See you,

Alex

Days 5 - It’s quiet, how can I tell whether my extension is meeting a market need?

I launched RemindTab almost a week ago. I promoted it well here, spent $50 on ads, and yet I’m still far from the results I was hoping for.

Do you have any experiences or advice to share on how to know whether the product you’re building truly fits a market need?

u/No_Computer_1247 — 8 days ago

Fake review — has this ever happened to you too?

Hey everyone!

Has this ever happened to you too — getting fake reviews? I honestly don’t really understand the point of lying just to damage someone else’s project, especially when the product is 90% free, including the very feature the user originally came to use the extension for.

The comment I just received is completely false — everywhere it clearly says $4.99, and once again, nothing is mandatory. I find it excessive to leave a one-star review over that.

What do you think? And has this ever happened to you as well?

Have a wonderful day everyone ☀️

🎯 We're live on PH: Focus Mode — hide tabs, address bar & bookmarks for total focus ☀️

Hey hunters 👋

Focus Mode just went live on Product Hunt today. Posting here because this subreddit has been part of how I learned to launch — figured it was time to give back and ask for honest eyeballs.

What it is
A Chrome extension that hides your tabs, address bar and bookmark bar in one shortcut. Built for people who can't read a single article without 12 tabs screaming at them (i.e. me).

What's in v5

  • Pomodoro timer with auto-cycle
  • Site blocker (Twitter, Reddit, YouTube — gone during focus)
  • Stats with streak, level system, badges, 12-week heatmap
  • Quick-capture inbox so you don't lose thoughts mid-focus
  • Available in 11 languages (even on free)
  • Customizable shortcut

Business model
Free forever for the core. Pro is $4.99 once — no subscription, no VC, no tracking. I personally hate SaaS pricing for tools I just want to own, so I refused to ship with a monthly plan.

What would actually help today

  • Honest comments on the PH page (the algo loves them way more than silent upvotes)
  • Roast the landing copy if it's weak — I'll fix it before tomorrow
  • Tell me what feature is missing that would make this a daily tool for you

Shipping a side project alone is a strange feeling — relieved, terrified, weirdly emotional. Thanks to anyone who clicks through 🙏

Focus Mode just hit Product Hunt 🚀

Hey r/sideprojects 👋

Quick follow-up to my post from earlier — we're officially live on Product Hunt right now.

I clicked "go live" and immediately closed the tab because I couldn't look. Then I reopened it. Then closed it again. You know how it goes 😅

If you have 30 seconds, the page is here:

What would actually help (in order of value):

  1. A comment on PH with honest feedback — comments matter way more than upvotes for the algo, and they're what I'll re-read 6 months from now
  2. An upvote if you genuinely like what you see
  3. Sharing it with one friend who keeps saying they can't focus

Huge thanks to the folks who DMed me earlier saying they'd be there at launch. That meant more than you know.

I'll be on PH AND here all day. If you spot a bug, a typo, or want to roast the popup UI — bring it on. I'd rather hear it now than next week.

Wish me luck 🤞🙏

Have a nice day! ☀️

Day 4 - We've just past 100 users on GA4 ! 🥳

Hey everyone!

Today is day 4 of this series, and things are honestly starting off really well!
We just passed 100 active users on GA4 🥳

I never know if I should rely on this dashboard for extensions or only look at the Chrome Store developer page 😅
What do you guys use?

But one thing’s for sure: the project is moving forward really well.

So what have I done so far?
I’ve been focusing on 2 strategies:

1 — Still posting on Reddit. It’s honestly become my favorite platform lately. Unlike X, it’s way easier to make connections and find people who are actually interested in the same niche as you.

2 — Reaching out directly by email to users of my previous extensions.

And so far, the feedback has been super positive!

But I really think this project can go much further…
And for that, I’d love to hear your thoughts 🫶

I’ve always been told the best person to give you feedback is your user.

So if you have a bit of time to test RemindTab and share your feedback, I’d genuinely appreciate it.

I’m excited to see what we can build together ☀️

Hope you all have an amazing day, friends ✌️

Day 3 - It's more than I ever imagined 🤩 🔥

Hey r/chrome_extensions!
Hope everyone’s doing great here ✌️

For those already following the journey, we’re now on day 3 out of 30 of sharing the development process and the kind of results you can expect when building your own extension.
And for everyone else, welcome ☀️

I realized I’ve never really shared my background here.

I completed a Master’s degree at a school specialized in marketing and luxury brand management.

After that, I worked for a champagne house and spent 2 years freelancing for different brands.

But eventually, I got tired of working on someone else’s projects and dreams, so I started building side projects here and there… including this one.

Creating Chrome extensions has become my new passion.
At first, I built them simply to solve my own problems, and then I decided to make them public.

And honestly, my favorite part is all the marketing around it.

My specialty in marketing is neuromarketing, understanding and using brain mechanisms and cognitive biases to spread products more effectively.

(Which is exactly why there’s a big red arrow on my screenshot… and probably why you clicked on this post 😬)

Anyway, back to the extension.

RemindTab is the extension at the center of this journey.

Back when I was a student, I constantly opened dozens of tabs thinking: “I’ll read this later...”

As you can imagine, that eventually turned into 45 open tabs across 3 different Chrome windows, with that guilty feeling of not wanting to close them because I’d probably never find them again.

I needed a simple solution.

A Chrome extension was exactly that: simple, fast, and practical.

That’s how RemindTab was born.

The goal wasn’t just to save a list of tabs, but to create scheduled reminders, organize them into categories, and add notes to them.

And now, that’s exactly what RemindTab does.

It’s only been 3 days since launch, and already 48 people have installed it — that’s crazy!

I can’t wait to see what happens next 👀

And I hope you’ll be here for the next update 😉

Wishing you all an amazing day ☀️
See you tomorrow 🔥

Focus Mode - the perfect tool if you have trouble concentrating

Hey everyone, hey everyone, to celebrate reaching 1,000 users, I wanted to show you my extension in a video. I hope you like it—this is my first time doing this.

Its Focus Mode. It turns Chrome into a workspace to help you focus. With a single keyboard shortcut, the extension hides your tabs, the address bar, and your bookmarks, leaving only your current page, nothing to distract you.

Have a nice days guys! 🌞

u/No_Computer_1247 — 10 days ago

Day 2 - I posted the extension on Product Hunt. Here's my feedback ⬇️📍

I’d heard on several forums about Product Hunt and how it helped people get dozens, even hundreds, of new users.

So I decided to test it for myself.

Honestly, the platform is very well designed. Creating a new product is super intuitive, everything feels simple and smooth. But… yes, there’s a “but.”

At no point did I feel encouraged to explore what other users were building. Everything seems designed to push you to publish your product and leave.

There’s very little interaction between users, which makes it difficult to build real connections with others on the platform.

Anyway, back to my extension. After publishing it, I made 2 posts in 2 different Reddit subs. The result: around 700 views… and nothing new from Product Hunt.

So then I tried creating posts directly on Product Hunt, and the result was: 1 like.

Maybe Product Hunt just isn’t adapted to my situation.

And honestly, I think that’s true.

My takeaway:

I feel like Product Hunt (and similar platforms) mainly gather people who are launching projects themselves. If your product doesn’t directly help other builders or creators, it can be hard to stand out there.

So in my opinion, if you simply want to promote your extension, it’s probably not the best platform — at least not if you don’t already have an active community following you.

If you want to market your extension, you should consider Product Hunt as a lever, not a complete solution.

Build a user base first. Build an audience that follows your work. Once you have solid foundations, then add the “Product Hunt brick” to your house.

I hope this feedback and experience was helpful!
I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences as well.

Have an amazing day 🌞

It's done! After a month and a half, Focus Mode has reached 1,100 users!

It's completely crazy—when I launched this project, it was just to share a tool I'd created for myself, and I thought, “Why not make it public? Maybe it'll help other people too!”

Thank you to everyone on this Reddit who has contributed in any way to the growth of this project 🙏

Sometimes we think a like or a comment doesn’t make a difference, but today has proven me wrong. So thank you to everyone who took the time to do so on my previous posts and who will take the time to do so on this one.

Today, to show you that it’s possible, I’ve launched a 30-day series of posts to develop a Chrome extension for a new extension: RemindTab - Save what matters. Come back at the right time.

A tab-saving extension with reminders, categories, notes, and many other features that I invite you to discover 👀

Where I’ll be documenting my journey over 30 days as this project grows.

I hope you’ll join me for this series 🔥

Have a great day, everyone!

Thanks for everything 🫶

I have a confession to make.

I've been saving articles "to read later" for at least three years.

My bookmark folder has 800+ entries. My Pocket library is a graveyard. I keep promising myself I'll catch up, and never do.

The problem isn't the tools. Pocket, Instapaper, Raindrop — they all save tabs perfectly. The problem is that none of them actually bring you back to what you saved at the right moment.

So I built RemindTab — a Chrome extension that does one thing: when you save a page, you set a reminder, and it actually surfaces the tab when the time comes.

Three reminder modes:

→ Exact time ("Tuesday 9am")

→ Recurring ("every Monday morning")

→ "Next time I open Chrome" — my favorite, because it catches you in the moment you'd otherwise scroll Reddit instead

The reminder pops as a discreet popup, a floating window, or a full-screen tab — depending on how much you want to be interrupted.

Built solo, bootstrapped, on top of chrome.storage.sync — so your data syncs across your devices via your Google account, but never touches my servers. No analytics, no tracking.

Free version is fully functional. Pro adds unlimited categories, recurring reminders, and a full-page dashboard. 7-day Pro trial without credit card.

Today I'm launching on Product Hunt. If you have 30 seconds and the topic resonates, I'd love your honest feedback (especially the harsh kind):

https://www.producthunt.com/products/remindtab?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social

Three questions, if you have a sec:

  1. What's currently in your "I'll read this later" pile?
  2. What read-later tool have you abandoned, and why?
  3. What feature would make you switch?

I'll be in the comments all day. Thanks for reading 🙏
