Ski season - Europe or Canada

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice on where to do a season. I'm currently in New Zealand doing a season and would like to go back to the Northern Hemisphere and do another right after this.

I'm looking at Europe (France ideally) or the West Coast of Canada. I work as a bootfitter and have done so for the past 3 years, so I have some decent experience at this point. I'd like to continue doing this as I really enjoy it, and I enjoy working in the industry.

I'm from Scotland and have skied in France/ Europe all my life, so I know I like it, but I haven't skied in North America at all. The main hurdle for France is the language barrier. I speak okay French, but it definitely isn't good enough to be a bootfitter. I know I'll get better if I live there, but I need to be comfortable enough before going.

Will this be an issue? Is it possible to maybe get a ski tech role without the best French, as it isn't as customer-facing?

What other differences are there? Business? Visa’s? Price of passes and cost of living?

Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks

Importing a car from NZ

Hi guys,

I'm looking at potentially importing a car from New Zealand. I am currently there and have a 1991 Nissan Patrol Y60, and I am looking at bringing it back to the UK.

Has anyone got experience importing cars from NZ, or have any recommendations or advice on importing?

The car is in good condition, and the total price of the car and the export costs is still cheaper than what I would pay in the UK.

Thanks

Insuring an imported car

Hello everybody,

I am currently in New Zealand and will be returning to the UK in September. I've got a car here and have been toying with the idea of bringing it back with me, but am unsure if it will be incredibly expensive to insure due to it then being an imported vehicle.

The car is a 1991 Nissan Safari GQ TD42

The reason I would bring it back with me is that they are quite rare in the UK and are either expensive or not in very good condition when they do come up for sale. I bought the car for roughly £5.7k, which would be a very good price in the UK.

I am 21 and have been driving since I was 17, but I realise I will still be considered a new driver.

Let me know what you guys think and if anyone has had a similar experience.

Thanks
