Okay, so I was falling down a deep-dive rabbit hole of old production interviews from when The Middle first started, and I stumbled across this absolutely unhinged transcript with co-creator DeAnn Heline on the Internet archive.

Here's what it said.

"BE: That’s an incredible journey from that original pilot to what the show became. But looking back at the development process, there's one legendary piece of production lore that fans still whisper about. In the early drafts, there was a scrapped character named "Bick"—who was essentially a Scrappy-Doo-esque mini-clone homunculus of Brick. What was the thought process behind Bick, and how close did he actually get to making it to air?

DH: Why would you bring that up? Who told you about Bick? Was it Eileen? No... no, we promised we’d never speak his name again. We buried those scripts. We burned the concept art!

You want to know about Bick? He was a mistake. A grotesque, unnatural mistake. We thought, "Oh, Brick is a hit, let's give him a hyperactive, miniature clone to bounce off of!" We actually had a prop department build a prototype puppet. It was horrific. It looked at me, BE. I swear to god, that *thing* looked into my soul. It shattered the realism of the Midwest! It ruined the entire family dynamic! It was my greatest failure. My absolute greatest failure as a writer, a creator, a human being. We almost destroyed a masterpiece before it even started because I was blinded by the hubris of wanting a Scrappy-Doo homunculus in Orson, Indiana! Please... please just change the subject. Next question. Please."

On later versions of the article on the internet archive it seems like this part of the interview was removed shortly after it was posted.

Does anybody have any information about this? If so can you please explain?

I also photoshopped an image on what this supposed scrapped character could've looked like.
