Anyone tried the sticky/tape deterrents? Do they actually work or just annoy the cat?

Seeing a lot of double-sided sticky tape and plastic deterrent strips recommended online for keeping cats off furniture. Has anyone actually used these long-term? Curious if they genuinely redirect the behaviour or just make the cat avoid that one spot while finding a new target elsewhere🤷‍♂️😅

Why do some cats scratch vertical surfaces and others go horizontal?

Been noticing my cat always scratches horizontal surfaces (rugs, cardboard laid flat) but completely ignores vertical posts. Curious if this is a texture thing, a stretching thing, or just personality.

Anyone know the actual reasoning behind vertical vs horizontal scratching preference? And if your cat has a strong preference, what surface/post shape finally worked for them?
