Cats dental cleaning

My cat is 7 years old 12.5 pounds she had been spayed and also had a teeth cleaning about 3 years ago. She’s a calico it look like she’s prone to tartar. Now 3 years later I have a dental cleaning tomorrow. I’m so paranoid and scared! Her bloodwork was done on Saturday and thankfully everything came back good tomorrow the will do the ekg and other things. I’m so nervous! Someone tell me that she will be okay. They will also have fluids in her.

quality of life and questions about CH cat?

Hi. I’ve been fostering this cat with CH (wobbly cat syndrome) for about a month now and im a little concerned. I’ve fostered a few CH cats before but nothing this severe. Miko is 5 months old and is seemingly really frustrated with his lack of mobility. He isn’t able to walk or even stand
:( It just makes me really sad. He’s had two infections from urine scalding in a month alone. He has to sleep in a cage at night and can’t be left alone when he’s not supervised as he’ll hurt himself. Every morning his litter is everywhere, he can’t be kept with water or food or it will go everywhere and Im not sure how to help him. He has ripped off his diaper each time and just whines when he is in one. It’s pathetic and makes me so sad for him.

He can’t be litter trained either and needs to be hand feed. He tries to play with my resident cat and loves his banana toy but everything else just frustrates him. He’ll try to get around for a little bit and then will starting howling untill I move him around, brush him, wipe or or fulfill whatever his needs are. He gets bitey and will scratch when he gets this frustrated. Does anyone know what I can do? I don’t have the means to care for him long term but I woryy try about finding a home for him, i’m his 3rd foster in two months and he is very silly but high need cat. Should I keep trying to out the diaper on him at night, or continue leaving him with litter, he can move a few feet on his own but has learned to just yowl out when he wants me to move him to the litter box. My vet advised me against pee pads because he needs to be fully wiped down after bathroom use to prevent scalding, and if he doesn’t yowl out for me I won’t know to clean him.

Thanks for reading.

My cat keeps throwing up

So my cat how been throwing up every once in a while for some time now. (Warning gross) she always throws up mostly undigested food. I swapped her food from a dry food to a wet food, that didn’t help. (I’ve tried both grain free and grain options) Then I swapped to a different dry food but for sensitive stomachs. I felt like that one was fine for a bit but its started happening again. So then I thought maybe it isn’t the food and she’s eating too fast. I’ve tried both posture bowls and two different slow feeder bowls. The second slow feeder bowl I got because I thought maybe the grooves were too big in the first and wasn’t slowing her down enough. Now it’s been a few days and she’s thrown up again. I’m at a loss. I know at this point I need to take her to the vet, but was wondering if anyone has advice? Should I try phasing out her food to a new food again?

My niece has allergies and my family are forcing me to rehome my cat…how do I stop this

Hi. This is a bit of a long story but i’ll try to make it as quick as possible. I live at home with my parents and my 5 year old cat. I fully pay for everything for the cat and my sister did not live at home when I adopted her. She is recently divorced because her husband was awful and she didn’t listen to us and now she and my niece have no place to stay. My niece is 4 is is apparently “severely” allergic to cat. He throat will get scratchy and her eyes swell up, I’ve offered to even pay for allergy shots but my sister said no because my niece is scared of needles… Zyretc and other over the counter pills don’t work and my parents won’t make them move out. I’ve tried separating my baby from my niece but she still has flare ups and apparently can’t cope with them. My ex-in law won’t even see my niece so her going to live with her isn’t an option and eveyone is my family is making me feel like a POS for not immediately fawning over my niece and rehoming my cat.

Is there anything that has worked for you? My sister isn’t moving out anytime soon and it’s been 5 months. We’ve tried giving my cat anti-allergy food like purina live clear but she will hunger strike for days on end and it hasn’t worked. I brush her everyday and vacuum 2 times daily.

Is this normal for a nursing momma cat? Thanks in advance!

My cat pumpkin had a litter on the 1st and has been doing a great job feeding them so far! I’ve been bottle feeding the runt. it had to have sugar water the second day it was out because It was lethargic and wouldn’t eat or wake up. It’s doing way better now and the rest of the babies are getting big.
Two of the babies are extra large and get aggressive sometimes and slapbox over the boob. I noticed last night that pumpkins nipples looked a little red and like they had a rash This morning I took these because I finally got a good look at them. She seems like it’s hurting her to nurse the two bigger ones especially when they fight, she’ll cry out or stand up real fast. The biggest grabbed ahold of my nipple through my shirt and it definitely has some teeth😭 I believe all of them have some. The culprits are the first pic swipe to see mommas condition.

Is mama okay and how can I help her? I feel so bad for her.

Why does my cat stand like this?

She’s a little under a year old and she’s always stood with her hind legs close together at an angle. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain, but she’s also just a major goof so she could be doing this just because? She also uses her whole back leg quite often and hops around when she’s in a silly mood. Does anybody else’s cat do this?

My kitten died in a very weird way

So my cat gave birth to 2 kittens and after couple of weeks they learned how to walk and started eating food instead of nursing, I gave them a little bit of salami and they freaking loved it, so I decided to pick a cat for my self and take care of it before I went to school I knew that I would be gone for the whole day so I put a big piece of salami that was half the size of my kitten I put it in the middle of my room with some water, and said for myself whenever she gets hungry she will come and eat from it time to time, after a long day I came back at the at night I was surprised that I didn't find the piece of salami that I left for my cat and I said to myself there is no way she ate all that, and I looked in the corner of the room just to find her dead and kinda bloated, ):

Should I take all my cat's teeth out?

Hi,

We have a domestic longhair male cat who is about ~10 years old. He's orange & white (rarely gets to use the braincell) neutered and currently weighing in around 3.7kg.

Most of the time we have had him (re-homed him around 2 years old in 2018) he has had loose stools. Our previous vets never seemed too concerned about this. After recently moving house and changing vets, our new ones are more concerned and we've been advised to try some specific food and have seen some noticeable improvements. We also then had a full abdominal "workup" (X-Rays and Ultrasound) due to concerns around inflammation which overall found nothing major but did show that some of his kidney function looks to have diminished though not to the point of kidney disease yet thankfully.

He has also suffered fairly long term from gingivitis. He's had a dental scale before and though we have tried to brush his teeth we have never had much success getting him to put up with it. His teeth are now quite bad again and certainly due for another procedure.

Given this combined with the abdominal workup, ourvets have suggested they would like to extract all his teeth due to:

  • High likeliness that he will require regular dental procedures given the condition of his teeth now
  • High priority of reducing any sources of inflammation to try to protect his remaining kidney function

They are suggesting we do this in two procedures at least 6 weeks apart - each procedure extracting half the teeth. We've been quoted between £1600 and £2000 per procedure so an expected total cost of ~£3200-4000. This seems on the high side but it's hard to tell without "shopping around".

I have heard that many cats do very well after having this kind of procedure but would be very grateful to hear any informed opinions on if this seems like a reasonable course of action at this point. It's obviously a fairly major procedure to put him through that I want to ensure is the right thing before we go ahead.

Thanks in advance.

Cat Food Discontinued

Hey!

I have a 3y/o male cat and have been feeding him the Purina Beyond wet (gravy) and dry food ever since he has been an adult kitty. But I’m pretty sure they are discontinued 🥲

I like doing dry food in the morning and wet food at night. Wet food is especially important to me since he is a male kitty and I wanna make sure he’s getting enough hydration.

I have just a little bit left of that dry food left but how should I go about transitioning him to a different food? He has a sensitive tummy for sure - I know cats can already have picky bellies but he used to have coccidia from the shelter when he was tiny. I’m wondering if any of that also plays a factor.

Anyyywayysss if anyone could give me recommendations on some other brands similar to the Purina Beyond specifically that would be much appreciated. I did Tiki Cat when he was a baby but I tried feeding it to him again a couple months ago and he was puking from it. I’d like to try it again tho if there’s a way to transition him more smoothly. Should I just feed him little amounts to start with? In a tough place because of that specific food line going away🙃

Would you bring your cat to live in a Swiss Alpine hut at 1,800 meters? Seeking advice!

I'm going to work in a Swiss alpine hut for a few months at 1,800 meters. Would you bring the cat, or should I find another solution?

41/2 week old kitten advice

Hi everyone. I just got a little kitten in which I thought was older than she really was. I found out she was born April 15 so she’s about 5 weeks old only. I wouldn’t have gotten her if I had known that tho. The guy had told me she ate kitten food drank water and used box so naturally getting this kitten off this guy( as he posted the kitten)! She would have been old enuff. I asked and he just said she’s old enough. Only the next day he told me when her birthday was. She does use the litter box and eats dry kitten food. Should I get her kitten milk or feed her reg milk? Please help with these questions, I want her for a long time! And how old should I vaccinate ? And deworm? Thanks with the help the sooner the better❤️

My cat stopped eating dry food

My cat stopped eating dry food and I thought he was just being picky. He would walk up to the bowl, seem interested, then take a few bites and stop. Sometimes he’d only eat soft food or chew really slowly. Then I noticed his breath smelled terrible and he started drooling a little when he slept.

Is my cat actually upset?

She puts herself in these situations and makes a lot of noise and swats, but can easily leave. My dog wants to play with her so badly!

day 7 after spay incision for cat (girl), looking okay?

our cat got fixed exactly a week ago and the second day she was bad about trying to lick at it but we settled on a makeshift cone with coffee filters and its worked like a charm, shockingly. but she still gets the zoomies and goes CRAZY trying to parkour on things and they’ve been occasionally getting irritated due to that/spread ever so slightly. my girlfriend has been very worried the entire recovery so i thought id get some opinions.

does everything look okay for day 7 to you guys? ft a picture of our baby with her coffee filter LOL

Anxious Tortie Mom (vet)

Hi Tortie crew!

My cat and I are both anxious ladies when we go to the vet. We have her yearly appointment tomorrow and I’m already dreading it.

I’ll be giving her her standard gabapentin doses 12 hours before and a couple hours before (per vet instructions) and they will still likely need to sedate her if they want to get blood and urine (which they will). It breaks my heart to see her so stressed out, and of course I get more stressed out, and it’s a nasty spiral for both of us.

The last time she was at the vet, we had to sedate her, and she had such a hard time coming out of it. She lost control of her bladder twice. Once was immediate, and the second time was in my bed with me the next morning. Even though they “reverse” it before we leave, she was still so out of it for over a day. I’ll be reminding them that this all happened, but I’m not sure if that will make any difference.

Is there anything you guys do to make the process less stressful for you and/or your baby?

Thanks in advance!

Is this cat a purebred ragamuffin?

Hi everyone, I am trying to see if this cat is a purebred Ragamuffin. Someone is selling her and is trying to trade my sister a Cinderella robot cleaner for her. She looks like one because of her long hair and her long tail, but I don't want my sister to be scammed. Thank you!

Am I a bad owner for adopting a new cat?

So, a month ago my cat died and it made me depressed for a while. It really made me extremely sad, and I'm still grieving. But two months ago, a stray cat gave birth in my aunt's garden and had five beautiful kittens. In a week, I'm going to adopt one of the five, but am I a bad person for adopting a new cat? For your information, my old cat and the new one don't look alike at all. The old one was a gray British Longhair/Persian female, and the new one is a black male cat.

please someone help me because all I'm doing is telling myself that I'm a bad person for adopting a new cat so early knowing that when my cat died I promised myself I would never adopt a cat again

Thanks for everyone who read this
