Therapists: is this unprofessional behavior or a bad therapeutic fit?

Hi everyone. My name is Gabe. Let me preface that I’ve worked with many therapists in the last 4 years and this is my current therapist.

Let’s start off with my therapists name, K. I’ve been working with K for maybe 2 years after being referred from an IOP program in the same mental health care company. K and I worked really well in the beginning but some things I don’t like. In the middle of our session, she’ll yawn obnoxiously or scroll on her phone and Apple Watch quickly. She will also come in pretty late and cut our times short. There were multiple instances where she came in late and had food. She has poor communication skills. We have insisted that our preferred communication method is calling us but she emails us despite how many times we’ve said it. We had a situation once where she forgot to call us and tell us that our session was cancelled because her car was trapped in the snow. We had driven out 30 minutes since the therapy place is that far from us. Didn’t even try to do a virtual. There was also one situation where she had emailed us 2 hrs before hand for a virtual. I went upstairs for my appointment, they said “oh you don’t have her today” turns out she was with a different client after us reiterating that we needed to be called. This also happened recently with her going on vacation. I will say that it was my fault for not reading the email ahead of time but I’ve explained time and time again that I need to be called for any schedule changes. She also has a tendency to say “I have resources!” And never follow up with them even if they’re important. I’m at my wits end, and I feel like my therapist does not care at all. In order for me to be able to participate in therapy I need consistency and I feel like she doesn’t give that.

Is this unprofessional behavior, and do you think it may be helpful to address it with my therapist and tell her how I feel about it?

Are there any parents who were not supportive in the beginning? If so, what made you change?

Hello everyone. I wanted to make a post sharing my story of who I am and why I’m writing this post.

My name is Gabriel (Or Gabe for short). I am 18 years old, and FTM. I’ve been having feelings of being transgender ever since I was 6 years old. This year I finally came out, and it didn’t go well with my family. They told me a mix of things I didn’t understand. They told me I was brainwashed, that I was only trans because I was overweight. My mom had also said that “when I was your age, I felt like a boy in a dress.” They have said they were going to accept me, but not support me. They have chosen to not address me by my name and preferred pronouns. They’ve refused to let me cut my hair, and even made me cancel my appointment to go on testosterone because it meant that I had to move out.

I came out as lesbian when I was 12 years old and my mom was supportive of it, but my dad was not. He told me I wasn’t and was in denial. My mom defended me as much as she could, but my dad is never coming around. I have not brought up my identity ever since. Now, I do my best to try and not be around them anymore. I also did come out as non binary and my mom cracked jokes about my “they/them” pronouns every now and then. I never said anything to her but it hurt my feelings.

I know they’re my parents but it feels like they don’t love me for me, even if they might. But I’m not sure if I should give them time. They’ve given me everything as a kid. I bought a book to educate them on transgender identities with a note but I haven’t gotten the courage to really hand it to them. This seems odd to ask, but what do I do? Should I keep talking to them? Should I give them that book? Will it get easier? I would love some advice from parents. I don’t want to be harsh on my parents because it’s their first time living and parenting, but there can be a multitude of reasons of why they can be acting like this. I would love some parent’s perspectives on this, simply because I’m not a parent and I truly don’t understand. Sorry if this post was a ramble. Thank you for reading.

18 and my hormones are at 1000

Hello, I’m an 18 y/o female at birth and it feels like my hormones are driving me insane.

I started my period when I was 11, and things were pretty stable from 13-16. I never really had mood swings, and I wasn’t really attracted to things like sex. As a matter of fact, everyone was talking about how strongly they felt about sex and had crushes. I didn’t of course, but it felt performative, and I didn’t know what the hype was all about. For a while I considered myself asexual. A few months after I turned 17 though things got chaotic. I started getting hair on my stomach, and inner thighs. It’s been slowly over time but my hair in general (like my armpits and pubic area) have gotten a lot coarser. My clitoral hood got a little bit thicker, and more hair.

Fast forward to now, I feel like everything is out of control. I went from masturbating once or twice a week, to 3 times a day or more. I like women and I’ve dated women in the past, but I’ve been paying attention to men now and it’s making me feel confused. I used to have sex dreams maybe like twice a year. Now, it’s twice a week. And when I have them it can sometimes wake me up in the middle of the night and it makes me feel gross. My emotions also switch SO fast as well. I can go from being fine to wanting to cry and being horny all at once. All I think about is sex, and even when I have negative emotions I always feel horny with them. I used to never be an angry person, now I go to 0-100 really fast and it feels as if I’m really sensitive most times.

I feel really alone. I feel like I can’t talk to anyone about it because it sounds awkward or it just doesn’t seem typical for an 18 y/o AFAB. This all just feels so sudden, the sexual feelings It can feel really overwhelming sometimes. I don’t know if any of what I’m going through is normal. It seems really dumb to say out loud but I feel embarrassed talking about it all.

(I also didn’t know what flair to put this under at all)

My parents found out I booked the appointment to get on T. They made me cancel it because they said that if I continued through with it, I would have to leave home.

I have no clue what the fuck I’m going to do. I’ve kept telling myself “just a few more years until T” and that’s been ripped away from me. I can’t just leave home, I have a dog that I need to take care of, and my parents went out of the way to make sure that if I do leave I don’t stay with my grandmother or aunt. I just want to transition. I’m sick of this body I’m in.

My mom thinks it’s body dysmorphia and me being overweight is the reason that I’m trans. I’ve felt like this for over 10 years. I just want to transition normally. If I do have to move out, I don’t know where to go or what to do.

Today is my 18th birthday, and after 6 years of waiting, I finally booked my appointment to get on testosterone. It’s very exciting, but there is some sadness in the mix.

My family is Hispanic, and my immediate family has become somewhat religious over the years. When I was 12, I came out as a lesbian. But last week after being closeted for so long, I came out to my mom and dad and it didn’t go well. I was told that I was brainwashed and that no matter how manly I look, they’ll always call me by my deadname and she/her. It hurt my feelings so horribly, because my mom didn’t mind me being a lesbian, and my dad has been working to come around it, but I feel like this set everything back.

With all the birthday gifts I got, I am so grateful. But some of the gifts I got reminded me that I’ll always be seen as a girl. I got an Ulta gift card (btw, I don’t wear any makeup and I barely shop at ulta, if not it’s for someone else) and hoop earrings (which I haven’t changed my earrings in almost two years.) my mom also made some bday posts and included some very feminine things (like sending me videos of girls in dresses and pink singing happy birthday). Maybe these are really specific things to nitpick at, but nonetheless I’m bothered. It just reminds me that I’m always going to be seen as a girl.

I feel so alone in this process. I’m so excited to start T, but I’m incredibly nervous for it. I wish I had someone in my life that I can look up to or ask advice for something like this because I know my dad won’t be any help since he’s made it somewhat clear that he doesn’t support it.
