Cologne or Saarbrücken for an au pair? Need advice!

I'm deciding between two host families in Germany.

Cologne:
- Love the host parents, but they're quite busy and usually reply late.
- They're teachers, so I'd likely have holidays when they do.
- They will contribute €70/month for my German course.
- Bigger city and much closer to my Dutch boyfriend who lives in the NL.

Saarbrücken:
- Love the host kids.
- The host family has been incredibly supportive ever since I started learning A1 German. They check in on me regularly and reply quickly.
- They pay for my language at an onsite school.
- Quiet countryside lifestyle.

My long-term goal is to improve my German and eventually do an Ausbildung.
Would you prioritize the more supportive host family, or choose Cologne because of the bigger city and being closer to my boyfriend? Which do you think is the better long-term choice?

Passed my A1

Hi everyone! I passed my A1 but I just did self study.

Now, I want to improve until A2 before moving to Germany (moving next January). However, I feel like I am not really learning that much because I am only doing self study and has no one to guide or talk to me.

Do you think it would be better to learn A2 at university or is self study also attainable? I really want to get better at the language. Here’s my A1 score.

Au Pair in Saarland

Hallo! I will be moving to Saarbrücken early next year. I just want to ask some insights - how is living in Saarbrücken?

I come from Asia but did my au pair year first in Amsterdam. Is it easy to make friends there? Are there a lot of events too? I am afraid I might get homesick. Any tips or insights?

Please be kind! Danke!

Hi po! Asking for insights, I only have almost 7 months left in my resident visa in The Netherlands. It’s so hard to find a company that will sponsor me for a working visa.

Any tips po kaya para magtuloy tuloy pa ako sa Europe? Student visa is an option or if may working visa po na pwede ko maapplyan kasi ayoko na po gumastos for student din :( no plans on going back sa Pilipinas pa po ngayon

Hi! Asking for US visa insights since I’m a fresh graduate who did an exchange program in Europe for one year. I currently hold a residence permit here, which allows me to apply for a B1/B2 Tourist Visa in the US.

What do you think are my chances of getting approved here? Is it the same process as applying in the Philippines? My family already got their US visas in the Philippines, but I still don’t have mine since I’m currently in Europe 😅
The reason I’m applying is because after my contract here, that’s where my family plans to fly so I can join them for Christmas break from here.

Should I take the risk and apply now, or would it be better to apply in my home country (Philippines)?

Profile: Fresh grad, early 20s, unemployed, parents & sibling have US visas (10 years)
Travel history: Japan, Netherlands, France, Germany, Singapore
