My parents wanted me to do well, just not better than them.

Good parents want their children to exceed their own accomplishments. My parents will often mention how they struggled and the quiet part is that means I should have to struggle as well. I’m envious of my friends in high school who have gotten ahead in life because of their parent’s emotional maturity and their willingness to help where they can. All these friends work but the icing on the cake is that their parents helped with a mortgage or gave them a sum of money to help them get ahead in life. My parents are boomers who think things are equal today as it was when they were my age (like most boomers). I am no contact and it’s partly because I realized they got a sick pleasure from withholding and watching me struggle.

Why do they find joy in ruining little pleasures?

It took me almost a year to finally love my house. My husband and I bought it without any financial help from my wealthy parents and it was a bit of a fixer upper. To fully lean into the holidays, I decided to sign up for customized Christmas lights. My dad’s response was “no one sees your house anyways”. It’s beside the point, but that’s simply not true. I live on a busy road with thru traffic. But even still, why try to ruin it for me?

I literally almost died of a heart condition after giving birth to my daughter in April. I’ll put up some damn lights if I want.

Trying to broaden my choices. Can someone suggest options for a young family?

Husband and I moved from NH to TN and don’t like it. I absolutely loved NH and for a while refused to consider any other option. Sadly, we can’t afford it. Trying to see what other cities might fit the bill.
Here’s some facts about us and what we are looking for.

- 34F/37M

- We are a mixed race couple (he is white and I am Asian)

- Have a 3 month old so looking for family friendly environment (but we wouldn’t move until May)

- He’s a CPA accountant and I’m currently a SAHM who wants to go back to work next year (account manager). His income is $85k-90k but it will go up when I return to work. I was making $50k.

- Looking for a place that would accept us as transplants and allow us to build community. We found that to be one of the most challenging aspects of NH despite me growing up there

- 4 seasons (snow is perfectly fine)

- Good healthcare as I have autoimmune conditions

- Good school system

- We are open to buying or renting

Can costochondritis exist without pain and just chest heaviness?

First I’ll say that I have been cleared of any heart issues by my doctor. They did an EKG and tested my troponin levels. This has been going on for 2 weeks. About 15-30 mins after my workout (light legs and walking), I’ll get a chest heaviness that makes taking deep breaths challenging. I don’t have any pain during or after my workouts. I barely have any pain at the moment. The heaviness is not as bad with walking but worse with light lifting. Could this be costochondritis or something else?
