Cannot create Google passkey on Windows PC

I don't know if there's some sort of issue on my systems or whether I'm just misunderstanding something. I've recently started using passkeys, my intention is to always have keys on more than one device (Android phone and a Windows PC) so I don't have a single point of failure. I am currently not using a 3rd party password manager or hardware key. For the passkeys on Android, I'm using Google's password manager.

So far all has been good, but I've encountered a problem with Google:

I have 2FA turned on, which prompts confirmation via my phone when logging in to my Google account on Windows (I typically keep "Remember this device" off so confirmation is required whenever logging-in. This makes me nervous, as in the event I loose the phone, I won't be able to get the authentication (I wouldn't be complete knackered as I do have recovery codes available).

I thought that it should be possible to create a Google passkey on my Windows PC (thinking this would bypass the 2FA requirement, or at least let me use a passkey on Windows instead of my Google password).

Under Windows on Edge, logging in to Google>Manage your Google account>Security & sign-in>Passkeys & security keys:

-I was expecting to be able to create a passkey here, and indeed there is the option to "Create a passkey"

-clicking that just generates a "Something went wrong. We weren’t able to save your changes. Return to your account settings, and try again." error.

The only passkey listed under "Passkeys" in the Google account manager is one for the phone, "Created automatically by Android".

Any ideas? Should it be possible for me to create a Google passkey for logging on using my Windows PC?

Thanks

New Roku stick update loop, no fixes work

Hi all, have seen posts with this issue but wondering if there are any suggestions I'm unaware of.

Streaming Stick. Pairs with remote, select language, connect to WiFi, perform update, restarts, goes back to the start of all that. All suggested fixes tried:

New

Wall outlet powered

Reset button

WiFi signal is excellent and have tried on a 2.4 GHz mobile hot-spot.

Is this a take it back to the shop situation?

Cheers

Updating IHT calculation with property sale value / CGT

Morning all. I've tried to find this out online on GOV.UK but am having trouble. Since it'd likely take calls to both IHT & CGT departments, I thought I'd save some time and ask you helpful people.

I am administrating my late mother's estate. We have grant of probate. We'd submitted IHT400 & associated forms, total estate value is under £500k (£325 NRB + £175 RNRB) so no tax to pay, but we're not far off (~£490k).

We had a RICS valuation for the single residential property (£350k), but it's a bit of an unusual one with few similar sold in the local area recently. On the IHT405, we indicated we'd like to use the sale value as the value for IHT purposes.

I am wondering what will happen if we sell for more than the valuation. Questions:

1: Since we said "Yes" to using the sale valuation for IHT purposes on the IHT405, would we have to do that?

1a: If so, how do we do that formally? Can we just inform HMRC, or do we need to get a formal revaluation?

1b: If so, can we now attempt to transfer her deceased husband's unused NRB using IHT402 (we did not previously submit this. There are some complications here, we only have his probate estate value from the public record and no access to any other supporting documentation so I'm not sure we'd be able to do this. That's why we didn't originally bother)

2: If we do not update the valuation for IHT purposes, I understand that the estate would have a CGT liability for the gain over £350k.

  • Can I confirm that we can use £6000 as the CGT-free threshold (£3000 for the partial tax year from date of death Dec 2025-Apr 2026 plus the partial year Apr 2026-date of sale)
  • If no CGT is due can I confirm that we have to report the disposal anyway as it's a property sale (in case it's relevant, there will also be a sale of two parcels of land on different titles to the property. These are unlikely to be sold at a value different to the IHT valuation)

Thanks in advance.
