Placement In-ceiling speakers

Hey all,

We're building new, and currently in process with our electrician for wiring... (Speaker cables).

I want a few in-ceiling speakers (only thing the wife will accept in kitchen etc), but not sure how many or where to place them.

1 in Kitchen above the seating area
1 in the living room table, which is right above the door of "inkomhal". The right side is TV area, so have already speakers there.
1 in study chamber (thuiswerk bureau) 1
1 in study chamber 2

1 in bathroom 1
1 in bathroom 2

Mind you, this is mostly for some radio in the morning, or chill music in the evening when we are eating or working from home.

Will that be enough? An extra on in the kitchen? But where?

ON-Ceiling speakers kitchen/bathroom

Hey all,

We're currently building a new house and I already have a dedicated 5.1 surround system planned for the TV area.

Now I'm looking at adding speakers in the bathroom, kitchen, and dining area (three speakers in total). These would be used purely for background music, radio in the morning, or some relaxing music during dinner. Because of that, I'd like them connected to a separate amplifier rather than my TV surround setup. (Probably will have to be a sonos amp, as our home automation is easily worked together with sonos)

I'd prefer on-ceiling speakers rather than in-ceiling speakers, mainly to keep some flexibility for future changes. However, most of what I find online seems to be either in-wall or in-ceiling speakers.

Can anyone recommend suitable on-ceiling speakers and point me in the right direction? Also keeping in mind bathroom suitable speakers with the humidity and all..

PS: Would speaker cables be enough then? Or do I need to connect the speakers to a ethernet cable aswell?

Where would you put security camera's?

Hey all,

I'm currently building a new house and want to pre-wire everything in case I decide to install UniFi security cameras later. So I'm planning to run PoE cables now while it's still easy.

For the outside cameras, where would you place them at a minimum?

Right side of the garage, covering the front door and windows.
On the first floor above the garage, looking over the flat garage roof.
Left side of the house (not sure where exactly, maybe halfway down the side and aimed toward the garage?). There's about 10 ft between the house and the property boundary.
Same idea on the right side of the house.
One camera covering the back garden.

Would this be enough, or would you do it differently?

Nieuwbouw - Veiligheidssysteem

Hier ben ik weer.

Dankzij alle hulp hier heb ik ondertussen de bekabeling, stopcontacten en UTP-punten voor onze nieuwbouw grotendeels uitgewerkt.

Nu zijn we aan het nadenken over camerabewaking en eventueel een alarmsysteem in de toekomst. De SOD raadde ons hiervoor hun vaste partner aan (uiteraard) een beveiligingsfirma, om mee te kijken naar de beste locaties voor camera etc en uiteindelijk een volledig plan uit te werken.

Ik vroeg me af hoe de meesten dit aanpakken. Werken jullie hiervoor met een gespecialiseerde beveiligingsfirma, of kiezen jullie eerder voor systemen zoals Eufy, Reolink, UniFi, enz.?

Aangezien de elektriciteit binnenkort gelegd wordt, wil ik nu al voorzien wat later nuttig kan zijn. Zijn er zaken die jullie zeker zouden laten bekabelen of voorbereiden tijdens de bouw qua security doeleinden? Bijvoorbeeld voor camera's, alarmen, sensoren, ...

Nieuwbouw - Stopcontact / UTP / Wachtbuizen etc

Hoi allen,

We zitten momenteel midden in onze nieuwbouw (Sleutel op de deur) en onze volgende afspraak is met de elektricien. We kregen alvast een voorlopig plan om door te nemen, vooral rond verlichting, stopcontacten en UTP-aansluitingen.

Ik heb op redelijk wat plaatsen extra stopcontacten en een aantal extra UTP-kabels voorzien. Misschien wat enthousiast geweest, maar liever te veel dan te weinig :'D. Momenteel kom ik uit op ongeveer 120 stopcontacten (gelijkvloers, verdieping, zolder, buiten en tuinhuis inbegrepen) en een 20-tal UTP-aansluitingen:

- 4 aan de tv
- 2 in bureau 1
- 2 in bureau 2
- 1 aan het plafond in de woonkamer (access point)
- 1 extra in de woonkamer, vlak bij de eettafel
- 1 aan het plafond op de eerste verdieping (access point)
- 1 in de master bedroom 2 in kinderkamer 1
- 2 in kinderkamer 2
- 1 aan het plafond op zolder (access point)
- 2 op zolder
- 1 in het tuinhuis voor een access point

Nu vroeg ik me af: wat is nog ergens het nut van extra wachtbuizen?

Ik had dit ook al eens aan de elektricien gevraagd en die was er zelf niet echt grote voorstander van. Je legt bijvoorbeeld een wachtbuis naar een bepaalde kamer, maar dan zit je ook vast aan die locatie. Wat zou je daar later nog door trekken dat je vandaag niet al kunt voorzien?

Voor de tv heb ik wel een wachtbuis voorzien naar de plaats waar eventueel de rear speakers zouden komen, maar buiten dat zie ik eerlijk gezegd niet meteen toepassingen. Met het aantal stopcontacten en UTP's dat nu voorzien is, vraag ik me af of ik ergens iets over het hoofd zie.

Hebben jullie nog ideeën of zaken die jullie achteraf graag hadden voorzien? Altijd die eeuwige twijfel of ik niet iets groots over het hoofd zie (aha! daarom wachtbuizen!)

PS: Voor camera's buiten wachten we nog even op een plan voor optimale locaties, dus die worden later nog toegevoegd

Bij interesse: hieronder staat ook het (licht)plan dat we van de elektricien kregen, inclusief mijn opmerkingen en extra toevoegingen (heb al wel veel comments verwijderd). Het ziet er misschien wat chaotisch uit 😉

Voorleesboeken peuters? (2+ jaar)

Terwijl ik naast mijn dochter van 2 jaar zit, die vanalles aan het doen is behalve slapen, maak ik van de gelegenheid gebruik om eens te polsen naar boekentips.

Welke Vlaamse of Nederlandstalige boeken raden jullie aan? Ik heb al wat Reddit-threads doorzocht maar die zijn vooral gericht op Engelstalige boeken, waarvan niet altijd een Nederlandse vertaling bestaat.

I’m currently very happy at my current employer. The only real downside is the commute (best case it’s 45 minutes one way, but most of the time it’s closer to an hour.)

I don’t mind it too much since I usually listen to podcasts, but it does take a lot of time, especially now that I have a 2-year-old daughter. it's a 3 days at the office policy.

Recently, a headhunter contacted me about a similar role much closer to home. I decided to explore it, and they came back with an offer. Now I’m stuck choosing between the two.

The job function would be more or less the same.

Current employer

Gross salary: €5,000/month

Benefits:

Company car + fuel card
Pension plan x2 (they also have a private company investing in pension)
€75 net expense allowance
Health insurance
€10 meal vouchers
CAO90 bonus: max. €3,700 net
Other bonuses: €1,500 net

3 office days (so usually 2 days working from home, unless holiday in the week)

New company

Gross salary: €5,500/month

No standard company car, but a cafeteria plan where I can exchange €500 for a car (something like a VW ID.4) (question: Is this enough with only € 500 ??? They say it is though.)

40-hour work week

Big difference: The new job is only a 5–10 minute drive from home.

I genuinely like where I work now. Good colleagues, good environment, and I’m comfortable there. It’s really just the commute that can feel heavy sometimes. At the same time, it’s not unbearable either, so I’m unsure whether changing jobs just for that makes sense.

I do earn more where I currently work, which is clear above. The offer I have been given is more or less their max they can give.

If you were in my position, which one would you choose? Just curious to hear how others would look at it.
