Model Women Circa 2015- please read.

This is a toughy for me to write. I want to see if any other girls/ women had a similar experience and know who this guy is.

About 10 years ago, I had an interaction with some guy who claimed to be a photographer. He also told me he was a lawyer and lived in/ near Boston. He ended up harassing me to a serious extent. We only talked via email and text. He had a pretty wishy washy photographer site as well- featuring only girls in bikini pics or sexy shoots. I had this link at the time, but again- this was over a decade ago.

I don’t feel comfortable going into details, but I would not post this here unless I felt it was serious enough. For description, this was about 2015. He was a heavy set dude, I believe he was young 50s at the time, and came with all the equipment. I believe he had 2 white large soft boxes for lighting and a few different lenses/ cameras. And again, that he was from Boston and was a lawyer. Although, the lawyer part could’ve been a lie. This is the only info I have on him.

Pricing Question - KDP Vs. Direct Platform

Debut novel is launching in less than a month. My impression was that you are to keep prices on all channels similar - despite the change in royalties on different platforms. I found one Author who said they hiked up KDP by a few bucks. But this either here nor there, because you can still price match to other site’s prices.

We all know KDP is known for taking a lot for being the middle man. I have it set for pre-order there, but struggling to see how my price structure will guarantee sales to my direct stop.

Specifics:

I am planning to put my book up on my direct website for 24$ including the 4$ in shipping. Should I match my Amazon price to this- being 24$? Or should I keep it at the 20$? The reason I ask is because I feel as though there’s little to no enticement to make the direct order. Especially if it’s 4$+ with direct, I consider they may have Prime and get free shipping. I am putting freebies in my direct orders as enticement.

Synopsis:
My issue is regarding my 4$ charge for shipping on my direct site, creating a 4$ difference if a Prime user orders. So, do you price your books higher on KDP? Or do you keep them all the same and just hope for the best in directing them to your site? Should I match the KDP book to be 24$, without including shipping, so it’s all kept the same?

Thanks in advance.

2 step authentication on KDP

Was in the final publishing phases of my book, so I had to enter the tax info and turn on the 2SV to push it thru on KDP.

I’m having some cover issues, but everyone on here has been such a huge help, so thanks if you did answer my last post!

When I went to resubmit the new document for cover review, it ended up logging me out of the account (when I went to 3rd section of pricing). It asks for my login, which is correct, then pushes me to enter an OTC code. Since I didn’t get any code to my email or phone, I pressed “did not receive code” and it tells me to open an Authentication app.

I did not have this app before, I just scanned the QR using my camera and it opened my IPhone Settings. Based off some research, people with the issue are saying to download a 3rd party app to authenticate. So I downloaded Google authentication, to which no code has popped in.

Some extra info: it made me combine my former Amazon consumer account when I tried to make the KDP, which I have heard does cause some issues like this.

Any suggestions with anyone who has experienced this issue? I am nervous I will not be allowed back into my account. It says I can reset the 2SV by scanning ID, but it’s 1-2 days turnaround. It will throw off my scheduling, but if this is all I can do, I understand. Just nervous that after this will continue to happen.

Used provided template, all 3x proofs were great, now it’s saying my cover is wrong.

Hi, I’m new to this space and hoping someone can help me. This is specific to KDP publishing cover.

I did an immense amount of research before beginning this in process in hopes of negging these types of issues beforehand. As they keep coming up, I’m feeling less and less motivated each day, but that’s beside the point.

I used KDP’s specific template cover creator to make my cover myself. I ordered 3 proof copies, all in which passed review. I finnicked with the spacing so everything was as clear, neat, and professional as possible. When I submitted for publication last night (so there could be pre orders), my e-book went thru but my paperback did not and they sent an email reading, “The text on the spine of your book is too close to the edges, which could cause it to wrap onto the front or back cover during printing. To fix this, please move your spine text inward so there's at least 0.0625 inches (about the width of a penny) of empty space on both sides of the text.”

When I received the proof, the spine was nowhere near the issues since I did it smaller on purpose to mitigate this issue.

Is there any workaround where I do not have to edit my whole cover, considering it went thru fine on D2D and Ingram?

Side piece of information: I did change my page count to 105 instead of 101, to include the back end and front end stuff (like acknowledgements, about the author, etc.) I think this would affect it in the opposite way, meaning it would give me more space, but wanted to mention this in case it did the opposite. The other options I was thinking was to put page count back down to 101 using same cover. Or, even putting it up to 108-110, by including the other blank pages, possibly giving me more space.

I know this is a lot of information and specifics, so I do appreciate anyone who took the time to read and wants to help me out. I haven’t reached out on any of the forums yet, but just feeling defeated and looking for some soft help. Thanks in advance for any comments

NEARLY got scammed in Rome, but random saved me!

So, story time... I start off by asking for no unnecessary/negative comments and/ or backlash for telling my experience. I am not asking for pity or reprimanding, but I will explain what led up to it. I took my 84 year old Grandma for her wish to Rome and she unexpectedly had some issues. We just started standing outside of the train station for our last night in Rome (after returning from other parts.) There was a long rail to the right of the exit, with a small group of people on the side next to the road, and an empty sidewalk behind it (the rail separating.) We had a bunch of luggage, since we were with other family members. We stood by (behind/ perpendicular) the rail which had a taxi sign. An Italian man started approaching asking how many people and luggage we had. He pointed us to the end of the railing, said “go see the short guy,” who then asked us the same question. He pointed at a van in the middle and said go see him. The van driver then asked the same questions and started loading our luggage. He proceeds to say 140€ for a 25 min drive to Columbus (residential district North of center.) We knew it was steep, so my cousin and I immediately searched Uber to compare. It read about 100€, so we sort of shrugged- opting for convenience after the long trip. The guy had stopped loading, questioned if we were still interested, and continued loading after our confirmation. We asked him why the price was as such and he said “due to the amount of luggage.” We were still weary, if not increasingly and it was obvious, because a random woman with a dog, brown hair pony tail, and sunglasses came out of nowhere. She was drawing attention saying, “No! No! We are actively fighting against this here in legalities, how much is he asking you to pay?”. We told her the price, unsure why we trusted her, but she seemed legit. She immediately turns to him and they have words in Italian. It was the first time I really saw the classic “hand movements” as well, which was funny but not. He starts pulling the luggage out, still cussing under his breath, as she turns to us saying, “I am a lawyer. Not all Italians are scammers. We want tourists to come and enjoy. It’s a fixed rate, listed on every cab, and any influx is purely illegal. Go back to the railing and wait in the line there. Be well.” She walks away, the guy screeches out of there before I could snag his plate to post, and we all just look at each other. In hindsight, it made sense why we were “easy targets” because of the obvious lack of strength. We were traveling all day and got into a jam that made us walk an extra few miles with the baggage. Another reason is that when we were initially standing by the line, it was small and barely noticeable. But we were not next to the road standing next to the group next up, but behind them. I could go on, but I’ll just leave it at I really appreciate and commend that woman and wish I could thank her again! She was really amazing. Beware and understand: Rome has a fixed rate for taxi ride drop off spots. Get familiarized before you go and don’t make any impulsive decisions.
