I’m 8 weeks pp, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy via c-section. I’m a doctor too and I don’t know if it’s a contributing factor but I’m always on edge. I feel like I’m not doing something right and I will mess it up as a mother. I had latching issues at first which injured my nipples badly and I resorted to pumping. I tried to nurse him once my injuries healed but he rejects the breast and only wants bottle. I was affected by it initially and later made peace with it (somewhat)
For the past 1 week I have a fear that me kissing him on the cheek near his ear has affected his hearing somehow. And I don’t know if im paranoid but he seems to startle less to loud sounds while asleep.
I keep taking him to the place I work for the smallest of things and repeatedly reassured.
I feel like my anxiety is getting in the way of being a good mom. Is it all in my head? I really don’t want medications as I’m worried about my milk supply.
Do people really get over ppa without meds?
7 weeks postpartum, 6 weeks of exclusive pumping, and my nipples are still sore. Is this normal?
I’m 7 weeks postpartum. We had significant latching issues starting around day 3. I initially developed bleeding nipples, then deep fissures and erosions that made breastfeeding unbearable, so I’ve been exclusively pumping ever since.
I’m using a Spectra S2 with 28 mm flanges. My nipples measure about 23 mm on one side and 24–25 mm on the other before pumping.
The skin has finally looked completely healed for the past 2 weeks, but the soreness never really went away. Pumping is still uncomfortable, and I don’t know if this is just something exclusive pumpers deal with or if something is wrong.
I’ve tried latching my baby a few times, but I always end up with a lipstick-shaped nipple afterward and significantly more pain. My doctor advised me to avoid nursing until everything healed, so I’ve mostly stuck to pumping.
I’ve also tried putting a little coconut oil inside the flanges, but it seems to reduce the suction and I don’t empty as well.
At this point, I’m wondering:
Is pumping supposed to continue hurting after 6 weeks?
Could my flange size be wrong?
Has anyone had persistent nipple pain despite the skin looking completely healed?
What finally helped you?
I’m feeling pretty discouraged and would really appreciate any advice or similar experiences.
