Does anyone start with ascenders and then switch to spurs?
Put them both on whilst on the ground, then maybe take the ascenders off when transitioning?

[College] I've been reading through Wikipedia's article _Exponentiation_. It references the power functions and the article _Power Law_, but that article is all about statistics.
Hence my confusion. I would assume that in the context of exponentiation, power functions arise with regard to polynomials. Yet the main article Power Law is concerned only with statistical applications. Is my assumption wrong or am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks.
I'm just a dumb electrician; this stuff fascinates me; how do I move in this direction?
A unit we're wiring in on my current job.
Anyone ever feed these Loren Cook extraction fans? I have no idea how to penetrate to feed the motors--all surfaces are curved. How to affix a Sealtite/Liquidtite connector?
Secant as a chord vs secant as a ratio of sides
Seems a basic question that I should figure out myself, but ...
I've been reading the trig entries in Wikipedia. Well, mostly the Trigonometry entry. It's bugging me that the word "secant" seems to mean both a chord of a circle and the ratio of the hypotenuse to the adjacent side. That is, the inverse of cosine.
My mind wants to equate these two usages, but I can't.
There's also the diagram which shows secant as the vertical horizontal line segment from the circle center to the tangent line, where the point of tangency is determined by the radius determined by the angle theta being used to determine the various trig ratios of the right triangle. Just eyeballing that segment as theta and the tangent line vary, it's easy to see that the length of that segment varies from r to infinity, just like the graph of $/secant(/theta)$.
So I'm beginning to conclude that these are distinct English usages that can't be equated mathematically.
Thanks.
PS. I'd appreciate it if someone reminds me of how to get TeX into comments, here.
Has anyone tried carrying-on their Kakwa 40?
Does it fit into that sizing box? I doubt the 55 would fit.
Also, how do people check their packs for flights? Some kind of cardboard box? Cheap nylon bag? Stainless steel mesh? Rawdog?
Thanks.
Has Essence Fest gotten a lot smaller or am I misremembering?
My last long-term job in the CBD was 2016-2018 or thereabouts. I remember Essence Fest happening and there was a carnival-like scene that filled the Loyola & Poydras intersection and at least a block in each direction. Food trucks, cotton-candy trucks, tables and tables of merchandise. The place was packed.
And I'm pretty sure it started a couple of days before the 4th. Today is a couple of days before the 4th and there is nothing there. Just a couple of Portalets that weren't there yesterday.
What gives?
Looking to learn more about Sierra hiking--looking at books
Y'allses pictures here have me thinking hard about backpacking in the high country of the Sierras. Looking at a couple of used guidebooks: there's Barry Parr's Hiking the Sierra Nevada and RJ Secor's The High Sierra: Peaks, Passes, and Trails.
Anyone like these? Or others?
Right now my plan would be to fly or bus into Reno from New Orleans, ESTA to Bishop or Lone Pine. If the latter, try to schedule a ride to the end of Mountain Pass Horseshoe Meadow Rd with either Lone Pine Kurt or Chuck.
I'm looking for a guide to which highways/roads are used to access which trailheads. Not really finding good maps for this online.
PS. Are bear cans required here? Good idea? Only needed below the treeline?
Added later: Thanks y'all for all the responses. Not going to reply to everyone, but just want to add a little. I actually have a Tom Harrison map of Golden Trout Wilderness. I saw a trip report about the area here or maybe r/wildnernessbackpacking just recently. And about the same time this YouTube from Sidetrack Adventures about the history of Horseshoe Meadow Rd hit my feed. Saw the map on Amazon and got it.
I'm aware of altitude sickness; used to rock climb and read a mountaineering book back then. I'm totally cool with a bear can, even if it mostly protects against rodents. I'm an electrician and run jobs, so I'm pretty safety conscious. Will def have an InReach.
Not even sure if I have a plan. Plan would be to reserve permits, get to Horseshoe Meadow, camp at the walk-up site if possible, then just do some easy exploratory hikes with 7 days of food. No fires, UL gear. Some Alpha layers for cold.
Still curious about the "no bear spray" comment. Is this true? It is grizzly country, right?
Anyone know if the East Side Sierra Shuttle is still operating?
Their web page still lists 2024 rates. Interested in Lone Pine to Horseshoe Meadow to access the Sierras.
Anyone else notice that Costco had no sardines yesterday?
Those six-packs are my lunch grab-n-go. I've never seen them not to have a pallet of sardines in that aisle in the 11 years I've lived here.
Anyone else catching warnings of generalized shortages to come? US oil companies warned last week that they've drawn down their reserves and that fuel shortages and price spikes will coincide with the summer driving season. The 4-month Strait closure is said to have interrupted fertilizer shipments to the point that some farmers here and abroad are choosing not to plant. So, food shortages incoming? Likely not here; we'll just keep paying even more for groceries. My bill yesterday was high and I didn't even get anything expensive. Well, I hadn't noticed that avocados had doubled to 7.99 until I reviewed the receipt.
Despite what Dear Leader says, no one else is predicting these prices will drop like a stone as soon as the Strait re-opens. And infrastructure has been destroyed, so shortages like jet fuel will likely continue for a year.
Just something I noticed shopping on Dublin St yesterday.
Anyone know the current tariff situation on ordering from China?
Thinking about actually ordering an F21 Pro with Google Play store loaded from any random seller on AliExpress. Somewhere between US$150-200, including shipping, excluding tariffs.
Anyone know the tariff amount I'd be facing? Also, anyone have a AliExpress selling with whom they've had good experience?
Thanks.
Need help finding a lug...
So I built a ground ring with #2/0 bare around a new electric room. One end goes to building steel. I'm not seeing a good lug to bond the transformers to this ground ring. I'm planning short whips with #2/0 green from my bonding lug inside each transformer. So I want something that crimps onto the whip and mechanically affixes onto the ring.
Owner doesn't want me to cadweld, because it's inside the building. He said I should use an "H lug". Not sure what that is and Google isn't helping.
Thanks.
Added later: Thanks for the comments. They reminded what an H-crimp is. Yea, I feel a little dumb. I spend so much time doing "add a receptacle here and change that light there" kind of work that sometimes I forgot real electrical stuff lol.
I'll read all the comments and check out all the links. But, yea, copper C crimps might be the way to go. Thanks.
Does anyone here know if the Qin F21 Pro works in the US on the Mint network?
Out of the box, at first; though I read it comes bloated with spyware. Really like that InkOS dot matrix look.
