American USL Fan. I love the CPL.
A long time fan of the USL here and I have to say the development of the CPL in its time frame is impressive. The fans are great. The product is great on the field. And it has rapidly expanded.
In many ways it reminds me of the USL in its development. It's more homegrown and more grassroots than MLS.
I plan on attending a game up in Canada in Laval.
Any teams I should support or follow? My French Canadian roots attract me to Supra.
I feel like RTO has capped my career unless I'm willing to move to DC. Anybody else?
I saw my dream job open up here at VBA and it was based in DC. I know for a fact the whole team is remote. And prior to this administration it would have been posted remote.
I feel like I'm close to being stuck in my GS11 position in this job series.
Anybody else in this predicament? Any agencies seem to be forcing moves to DC?
Shouldn't the US be included in this?
I might get down voted but while I like the idea of this I don't see it as economically rational. The one trading partner between all these nations is the US and excluding them doesn't make any sense.
I'm an American with a Canadian passport and wish both countries would be more open with each other. It's amazing how difficult it is to work and live in opposing countries if you're not a citizen. Especially an American going to Canada.
I feel like the anchor point to all four countries would be the US so why not include it?
Data Scientist-Direct Hire: Anybody work in this unit? Good move?
usajobs.govJust a Reminder that Jesse Marsch is the only Wisconsinite to manage a World Cup Team
I always forget he was born and raised in Racine and went to Case.
Planning a road trip to Canada! What's a better option?
I'm from Wisconsin and driving to Montreal. 14 hour drive.

Thought about flying but I'd have to go Chicago.

My grandfather's family was Canadian so I want to check out the region they're from.

What's a better options?
Explore just Montreal. Drive there and Back.
Do some nights in Toronto or Ottawa and Montreal.
Do nights in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
Better or different strategy.

I have 10 days I'm planning to take.

I plan on taking the Lake Michigan ferry.

Fed of 11 years, considering a move for a State Job. Am I crazy?
Hello all,
I’ve been at the fed 11 years. I’m currently a 0343 GS11 at VBA. I’m finishing my masters in data science at a university nearby in August. I love my job, and I used to love VA and the opportunities that it provided to me, but I feel like the opportunities are gone.
My commute is currently 45 minutes away and while it’s not the worst, and certainly people have it harder, it’s really wearing on me. I also think I’ve started to develop some health issues associated with it, which is crazy considering how fit I am. I have adapted, but the brain fog in the afternoon during the week and missing the mornings with my daughter have been hard on me. I considered an RA, but in my position I feel like it might not look good, and I’m not sure I have a strong case. I like my coworkers, and I don’t mind my office, it’s just the Wisconsin winters and weather wear on me.
The other part that bothers me, is that all the opportunities at VACO aren’t coming back for quite a while. I feel like I’m missing out on valuable skills and career advancement. I fight for every opportunity that I get. I finish my GS11 time in grade in September.
Along comes this state job. Overlapping subject matter expertise. A slight pay increase, cheaper insurance premiums, a strong pension through the state of Wisconsin, and 5 days remote.
Am I wrong for being hesitant here? Am I wrong for considering it? I look at the biggest costs of starting over on Sick Leave and Annual leave, and potentially leaving early during time in grade.
Should I wait to start pursuing state in jobs until my TIG done? Or given this opportunity go for it? Or wait it out until 2029?
State of Wisconsin is relatively stable, and it’s possibly a Republican could change it, but even if they did my closest commute would be…..20 minutes away at that state building.
Am I missing anything important?
There is one Wisconsinite in the World Cup: Esmir Bajraktarević 🇧🇦
Book 9/15: "How to steal like an artist" by Austin Kleon
Following my new reading list challenge where I try to hit every genre on storygraph. We came to art.
I think every self help type book should be in this format. Short, and easy to consume. Most of the time it's a huge amount of fluff. Book was excellently structured and designed really cool.
Also had some bars in here.
I wrote a couple of them down.
Overall 4/5 🌟
Book 8/15: "Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" by Haruki Murakami
So let's talk about this book. I think it's a good book and the dual worlds are a fascinating structure of the story. The creativity of the world he built is weird and interesting. It doesn't always make sense but it's engaging.
The weird sexual undertones with the other random female characters are just so random. I found the multi dimensional world really fascinating but felt there were some holes.
Hated the ending. Not spoiling the ending.
4.25/5 🌟
Meta note: Done with grad school being fulltime. I'm back to part time. Back to reading for fun. I do count my grad school readings. And currently hitting my to read list.
Hitting a new genre every book. Trying to get outside of my comfort zone.
Golden Letter Boys and Girls $30,000+ Gone!
Got my green banners April 24th and now I just got my golden letter this morning.
I did 10 years of service and this should have been done earlier but the PAYE fiasco and the orange muppet getting elected made it harder.
DOGE and Government Shutdowns made my life hell. Return to Office made my life hell.
I did everything to a T and it was still incredibly difficult. I'm glad to be here.
In my 11.5 years of federal service, I did 8 years as a mailman with USPS. And I have 3 years at VBA. I raised myself from a dude who delivered mail to a data analyst in one of the best organizations in the world. Federal service has brought me so much satisfaction and pride. I'll also be graduating with my masters that I'm bootstrapping myself.
To all my federal brother and sisters whatever task you do it matters so much.
Time to celebrate!
I was born, and raised in Milwaukee and live just outside the city now. AMA
Kudos for who can guess this bar.
Book 8/15: "A Wild Sheep Chase" Haruki Murakami
My Grad School Year so 15 books.
I've been on a Murakami kick lately. Probably one of the best story tellers around. Yes his views on women are....probably sexist and strange but yea. That part gets weird but the story kinda meanders randomly and it has a good vibe. The whale penis chapter was the most random chapter I've ever read in my life.
I feel like he plays around with magical realism. The ending got me really good. Not enough for 5 stars but I give it ..
4.75/5 🌟
