Just Some Pointless/Unnecessary Shit I Do in My Longterm Saves (explained)

I’m genuinely curious if I’m the only weirdo that does deranged stuff like this on their saves.

I tend to put a few “easter eggs” using the pre-game editor, giving me something to follow in the game world beyond my own team. Occasionally, I also mess with the game universe in other ways, while the save is already active (although I play without the in-game editor, so I need to get a bit creative when I do this).

Now without further ado, the images explained.

  1. [Pre-Game Editor] I always put in a maxed out head coach in charge of a lower league team, just to see how this affects the club’s performance. To keep the head coach in place I tie ‘em up with a contract until 2099 and make managing the club their “long-term goal.” In this case I chose LKS Goczałkowice in the 4th tier of Polish football. As you can see, Coach Chojnicki made it all the way up to Ekstraklasa, got relegated, and now is coming back with a vengeance: ending the season 16 points ahead of the competition, with 24W 1D 6L and 36GD. They should be a more formidable Ekstraklasa side next season. Why this Jerzy Chojnicki (pictured) and LKS Goczałkowice, that’s a whole different level of lore I will leave for the comment section, if anyone actually cares that much.
  2. [Adding a Coach Saboteur] A couple of seasons ago I noticed that a village team (population of 765) called Agroplon, recently promoted from the 6th f'ing tier of Polish football, made it all the way to the FA Cup semi-final! Their club name loosely translates to “Agrarian Harvest,” how wholesome is that? Anyway, having made the semi-finals, they landed against a real Goliath, and a recent FA Cup winner, Śląsk Wrocław. I was so impressed with Agroplon’s epic run and so annoyed with Śląsk [>!for something unrelated, that their IRL board did against my favorite club!<] that I decided to sabotage Śląsk and secure the victory for Agroplon. I created a coach named Sabo Taż. Yes, his name sounds like “sabotage” when pronounced the Polish way, that’s how stupid I am. Anyway, the rest is history, Coach Sabo Taż lost 7-1 and promptly resigned that same day. By the way, the idea of an FA Cup semi-final being played on that village playground (pictured) is just the kind of FM bizarro world I enjoy. I was hoping Agroplon’s prowess and the money/reputation they gained would lead them to future successes, but sadly they haven’t done much since their legendary FA Cup run.
  3. [Mod player image & nickname] This one is perhaps the most deranged of all. Purely cosmetic. Every couple of years I rename one newly acquired WB as GØLBOT. In my universe my team got permission to create and test athletic robots (or something like that, I don’t really care). The version name has to do with the year built (as in, signed for the team) and the number of bots in the universe. Hence GØLBOT v.28.0.2 is the 2nd bot on the save, brought in during the 28/29 season. I made sure the GØLBOT picture matches the look of the UltraRealistic NewGan face pack I use. GØLBOT always tackles hard, usually leads the league in yellow cards. It's a stupid, unnecessary thing that makes me smile.
  4. The last picture is not really 100% related to the post, just an excuse to show off my team jerseys. I spent way too much time on these. Home kit - basically a modified version of the FM24 jersey, away is my own concept, third kit is based on a real world team, does anyone remember it? Fourth is the academy kit, which I tried to make as close as possible to the real world version. I guess it fits the “Pointless/Unnecessary Shit” theme, but I know a lot of people do this, so it’s probably far less weird than the other three.

I wonder if anyone else does this kind of unnecessary stuff in their saves, just to see what happens in the larger game world or to add some quirk to their team or game world. If you do, and aren't too embarrassed to talk about it, please share!

Are Defensive Measures Useful on FM24?

I don't know if it's just me, but whenever I do anything like switch to Balanced, waste time, play a more defensive formation (remove a second striker for an extra defender on stopper duties) I just end up conceding goals.

I just had a match where I was up 4-1 with the team I was playing against, and they were down one man (red card). Once I started to play defensively they got me back to 4-4 with 10 men in the last 15 minutes.

Are these features somewhat broken and attacking is the only way to play, or am I missing something?

Navigating Seemingly One-Sided Friendships

Have any of you ever dealt with otherwise valuable friendships, where you felt like the entire responsibility for maintaining it was resting on your shoulders?

In other words, you ever felt like you wouldn't see one of your bros in the next 12 months (or maybe even ever again) if not for the fact that you reached out, made some plan, invited them somewhere, etc.

I have at least 3 people like that in my orbit, they are great guys otherwise and we go way back, but I guess they just suck at maintaining relationships with people (or that's how I excuse their behavior anyway) and due to various life circumstances we no longer can just "bump into each other."

[To clarify 3 separate friendships, not linked to each other, so not like a group that is excluding me or anything]

I'm not going to lie, this can feel shitty sometimes. And during moments when I'm already feeling down, sometimes I even wonder if these people are my friends at all. Like, if I just chose to "make a point" and wait until they reach out next time, would I ever even hear from them again?

Question is, however, do I actually want to make that "point" and cut them loose? Let's be honest, I'm approaching 40, and yeah... it's not exactly like I'm making a ton of new meaningful friendships. If anything, the number of bros I truly vibe with has dwindled down to a select few.

Given this midlife reality, it seems a bit aimless to terminate 3 decent friendships just because my ego is a little bruised. They suck at the whole picking up the phone and reaching out thing, and I happen to not suck at it, and maybe that's just how it is (and it doesn't have to be that deep: I don't suck at it, so I'm the one calling). The important part is that when we get together the relationship is not surface level and definitely worth having. I also know that when I do call them, and need something, they have my back. One of these dudes recently drove 6 hours to help me out.

But yeah, then I wonder... am I just making excuses for them, because I want them in my life? Am I just lying to myself that these people actually care? If I died in a car crash tomorrow, how many months or years would it take 'em to figure out my number is out of service? It feels a bit pathetic.

To preempt the question, yes I did talk to them about it at some point. The responses are always similar: they're not good with their phones, they don't like calling, etc. And maybe that's all true. Or maybe if they actually cared they would reach out. IDK man.
