If a dealer wants $28,500 and comparable cars sold for $26,900, what would you offer?

Serious question.
If a dealer is asking $28,500, but recent comparable vehicles sold closer to $26,900, which number would you use when negotiating?
When buying a house, most people look at sold comps before making an offer. Why isn’t that standard when buying a used car?
Curious how everyone here evaluates whether a used car is fairly priced.
Asking price?
Sold comparables?
KBB?
CarGurus?
Something else?

Why don't car sites show sold vehicles like Zillow shows sold homes?

I’ve always found it strange that when buying a house you can see what similar homes actually sold for, but when buying a used car you mostly see asking prices.

As a software developer, I started collecting sold vehicle data and comparing it to active listings. The biggest thing I noticed is that asking price and market value can be very different depending on how long a car has been sitting and what similar vehicles actually sold for.

I'm testing a tool that shows recently sold comparable vehicles and generates an estimate based on those sales.

Right now the data is strongest in South Florida, but I'm curious:

If you're buying a used car, would seeing recently sold comparable vehicles help you negotiate, or do you mainly rely on KBB, Carfax, dealer pricing, etc.?

Looking for honest feedback from car buyers.
