2017 Honda Brio S, 100k driven, for 2.3L. Is it worth it?

I am looking to buy my first car, and I found a used 2017 Honda Brio S MT, driven over 100k kms, for 2.3 Lakhs, on Cars24. I have a few doubts regarding my decision and would like some suggestions.

  1. Should I buy a car that's been driven for over 100k kms?

  2. Is 2.3 Lacs is too much for this?

  3. Should I go with Cars24 or look for 2nd hand cars from local dealers?

  4. How much maintenance would it require in a year?

Nganya Owners: What’s It Really Like Behind All the Mods?

I’ve always been curious about the guys behind these nganyas.

You see some of them and the owner has really gone all out — custom interiors, serious sound systems, lights, rims, paint jobs and all sorts of modifications. Some barely resemble the vehicle they started with 😂

But as passengers, we mostly just see the finished product.

For those who actually own them, what made you decide to go the nganya route in the first place? Did you always plan to modify it that heavily or did it happen gradually?

And what engine/mechanical setup are you running underneath all the customization? How do you maintain it, and when something needs replacing, where do you actually get parts? Especially with heavily modified ones, does finding parts ever become a headache?

What’s your favourite thing about owning one, and what’s the part nobody really talks about?
Also, what’s the craziest reaction you’ve gotten from a passenger or someone seeing it for the first time?

For anyone who’s owned a normal matatu and a nganya, is the experience really that different?
And if you had to start again with the same money, would you still build a nganya?

Used mazda 6 vs brand new skoda octavia

Hello,

I am looking at purchasing a used mazda 6 2021 2.0 perol AT at 54k km for 20 800 euro. I haven't checked it yet in a service but i think it's in great condition. It needs to be serviced and the tires are already old so in about a year i'd probably need new ones (both summer and winter as it comes with 2 sets of rims).

My guts tell me i can lower the price to 20 000 euro at most. When i think about it, I'll need to spend about 21-22k euro for this car.

On the other hand, skoda is having good sales atm for their 130th birthday, so i can get a brand new octavia 1.5tsi MT for 27 500 euro. I'll need a leasing for this one.

In comparison, the mazda is the lowest trim with some extras but still has everything i need, while the skoda has more extras. The skoda will use less petrol.

Could you please advise on what would be the best choice in terms of reliability and costs?

Buying a hatchback, it'll be my first real car and I have a lot of questions please help me lol

I have questions; many questions to be exact. I am looking to buy a used hatchback. I live in the New England region of the US.

I am 24 and technically still "live" in state but I actually reside in Vermont. I have my current car and insurance and license registered to New Jersey since it was just easier to keep it that way with my parents. When I buy the new car is it smarter to just officially move to Vermont or keep the registration in NJ until I age out of parents insurance? After 26 when I age out I would have to "move" anyway so it isn't that big of a hassle just obviously easier with an existing automobile to know how this stuff works and now that I need to buy a car this has thrown a wrench in the plans.

Anyways I have narrowed the cars I am looking at to these 4 (but I am extremely open to input about these or others):

  • Subaru Impreza
  • VW Golf Alltrack
  • Mazda 3
  • Toyota Corolla Hatchback

I am looking to buy model year 2018 or newer (not a new car but not super old I feel this is a somewhat happy medium). I am taking a loan out for at least part of the cost of the car.

I am 24 and turn 25 in September. My car is on its last legs but it'll make it to my birthday for sure. So my question is is it smarter to take the loan out after my birthday (aka is it more likely my interest rate will be lower as I will be older if only a few weeks apart)? I have a very solid credit score thankfully after a lot of work. I am sitting at a ≈780-800 rn and plan to take the loan from a local credit union or USAA depending on what rates I can shop as best.

So I think to boil it down I have a few fundamental questions and a bunch more I have left ambiguous in my paragraphs above so feel free to chime in literally anywhere.

  1. Should I "move" and register the new car in the new state at the same time to make things easiest?
  2. What car is best from my options or literally any other?
  3. When should I start the loan process since I am at a birthday?
  4. Probably other stuff I cannot think of?
  5. Is there another community I should be asking instead of here?

Thank you all so much in advance. I feel so goddamn lost. Car buying as a process sucks and I am hoping some of these things aren't too silly of questions. I will try to update or clarify questions as they arise tysm

Need advice if i should get a second hand diesel [UP] Honda Civic IDTEC 2019 - 11L

The post is regarding a Honda Civic - 2019- 57000kms - First Owner UP registered - Manual transmission

Being a Honda fanboy, Its been my dream car since the time i first drove a diesel honda city. But sadly the production of Honda civics stopped in 2020 and buying a new one was a farfetched dream.

Recently, i happened to glance upon one being resold in my city and although my family is against getting second hand cars... I just cant get it out of my head. I know the price being quoted is a bit high but its just the listed price and I know he'll most probably come down to 10 lacs and lower.. but is it worth to get almost 7 year old car for a fortune instead of buying a new another one?

Its also the fact that the sheer low volume of these cars that had been sold between 2019-2020 and diesel Honda civics being such a rarity with only approx 1000 sold in India...

I am also worried about the aftermarket parts availability and servicing of the car and what does it cost to maintain it in 2026 and beyond.

I currently own a 2016 Honda city Diesel with 96000 on its odo and i am prepared to sell this to get this one. Should i go for it?

Why are these old trucks still working every day in Kenya?

I keep seeing old Isuzus and Fuso Canters still doing serious commercial work. For owners/drivers who’ve actually used them:

Are they genuinely reliable and cheap to maintain? How’s the fuel consumption and parts availability?
I’m working on Ask The Owner and would love to speak to an owner who’s been running one for years. If that’s you or you know someone, let me know.

What keeps these old workhorses going? 👀

5’0 woman struggling to find a vehicle

Im currently looking for cars for my height! The current vehicle I have is a Buick envista and I do not enjoy sitting so close to the steering wheel. Im done for if an accident happens!
I have to have the seat all the way up and all the way forward.

Im looking for a vehicle that allows me to sit up tall and prefer to have peddle extenders. Im unsure if that is something that a mechanic has to do..

So far Ive liked the Kia seltos 26 for height but it is a Kia. Where I live that Kia would be in my possession for 2 seconds ifykyk.
I also liked the Honda C RV 26! My price range is 30k and under. Prefer it to be gas efficient and low maintenance too. Tempted to get a monster truck tbh lol

Thanks!

What sedan should I buy?

Looking for a reliable, affordable sedan for highway commute: After putting 215,000 miles on my 2016 Sentra, I’m in the market for a new (or lightly used) sedan.

I drive about 80 miles round trip, 5 days a week, almost entirely on the highway. At this point, I really don’t care about technology, luxury, performance, or looks. I just want something that is:

Reliable
Great on gas
Affordable to maintain
Easy and inexpensive to repair
Comfortable enough for a long daily commute
$28,000 or less

I’m not interested in hybrids. Since most of my driving is highway, I don’t think the MPG advantage is worth the added complexity/cost for my situation. Plus, most of the hybrids I’ve looked at are outside my budget. The other problem is CVTs. I really dislike them, but it seems like almost every affordable sedan now comes with one.

Cars I’ve considered:

New 2026 Hyundai Elantra SE: I test drove one and was actually impressed. It was very smooth and comfortable, but I’m unsure about long-term reliability and maintenance costs.

Used 2025 Mazda3: Probably my favorite option mechanically because it has a traditional automatic. However, it wasn’t as smooth as the Elantra, the back seat is pretty cramped, and insurance is surprisingly expensive.

Used 2025 Honda Civic Sport: I test drove one and liked how it drove. It was smooth, but there was quite a bit of road noise. It also seems pretty expensive, especially for a used car that's only a year old.

Toyota Corolla: I’ve considered these too, but they seem relatively expensive for what you get, and insurance quotes have also been higher than I expected.

So, what am I missing?

Are there any other sedans I should consider that fit a $28,000 or less budget, get good highway MPG, and have a reputation for being reliable and inexpensive to maintain?

I’d appreciate hearing from people who actually own these cars or have put significant mileage on them. What has your experience been with reliability, maintenance, insurance, highway comfort, and MPG?

It’s sad that automakers stopped caring about making simple, affordable, entry level sedans. I don’t need a bunch of technology. I just want something I can drive for another 200,000 miles without constantly worrying about it.

What would you buy?

need help picking between these two used cars

been searching for a solid daily driver that won’t kill me on gas. found a 2022 mazda3 with 31k miles for $19,500 and a 2021 hyundai elantra with 39k miles for $17,900. both look clean and they said they’re certified.

i just need something reliable for work and weekend trips. the mazda feels nicer to drive from what i’ve read but the hyundai is cheaper.

anyone had either of these for a while? anything i should watch out for before i go check them out?

Reliable 7 seater needed ASAP

I just took my Doge Journey in for "preventative maintenance" (I know, near worst SUV to buy) and was told it was pretty much about to disintegrate under me at any moment. It our good family mechanic who told us he cant consciously repair this vehicle without telling us we shouldnt bother, and should buy a new one...

So... I am in need of not making the same mistake again like I did with the Journey. What is our best option of a 7 seater vehicle that would be most wise? Our budget is 20k just because we dont want to spend SO much money on a car, but would be willing to go up to 30k if absolutely necessary because the price of cars is up so high. We can afford it, we just would rather not.

So, what make and model should we look for? We got 5 years out of the journey, and would like to get 7+ years out of this new one. Thank you!

Feel free to make the Journey jokes of how awful it was, I learned my lesson post purchase

Advice needed! Fiat Panda 2022 1.0 Hybrid city life, or Citroen C3 2021?

Hi all, I'd love your expert opinions, I am not much of a car guy myself, but am currently in the market to buy one.

There are two options that have come up - a Citroen C3 2021 83 hp (61 kW) with 47k KM or a Fiat Panda 2022 1.0 Hybrid city life model with 44K KM. I am looking for something reliable, practical and want this form factor - mainly to be able to pick up 2nd hand furniture/DIY bits for the house.

I am leaning against logic towards the Fiat, despite having way less tech and features, I just appreciate the Italian charm (my first car was a Punto). The car will be used in the Netherlands.

I am quite stuck and would love some help/advice.

Im selling my truck and looking for a car

I’m looking for a used car in the $7,000–$10,000 range. I want something with better than 16–17 combined MPG and quicker than a ~7-second 0–60. It should look sporty, similar in vibe to a C5 Corvette or BMW E36, be very reliable, make a good daily driver, and have 4 seats. Basically, I want a fun, sporty, reliable daily driver that improves on both speed and fuel economy compared to a typical 2006 Nissan Frontier.
