PAO pain (or lack thereof)

I’m 14f and had my left PAO exactly a week ago. In the hospital, I took almost no heavy pain meds (just oxycodone to help me sleep the first night) and passed PT with “flying colors” (as my doctor said). My pain stayed mostly below 5, and if I stayed still long enough I basically couldn’t feel it.

I spent two nights in the hospital and had an uneventful 1-hr drive home (that was definitely uncomfortable). At home, I only took one Tylenol the day after I came back and other than that, I’ve only been on aspirin twice a day. My pain is definitely under control. It spikes whenever I stand up/sit down but only for a few moments. Also, sudden abdominal movements like sneezing, coughing, and laughing hurt like hell, but it would probably be better if I took my Tylenol.

This was really surprising to me, since I’ve heard that PAO can be very painful. Generally I’ve been known to be very sensitive to pain: my period cramps can make it impossible to focus in school, papercuts sting for days, and bruises seem to bother me more than everyone else. I fully expected to be taking oxycodone for weeks.

I guess what I’m trying to say is: if you haven’t had surgery yet and you’re nervous about it, don’t worry! Just because many people find it painful doesn’t mean that everyone does. And if you’ve had surgery, please comment with how your pain has been because I’m honestly curious how bad it’s supposed to be.

Post-PAO nausea/lack of appetite

I (14f) had my PAO a few days ago and I don’t feel like eating anything. Every time I even think about eating I want to throw up. My parents are really worried about me and my mom’s trying to force-feed me, and I feel really bad for making them worry. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Stationary bike recommendations for post-op exercise

I’m looking into a stationary bike to get my joint moving after surgery. Should I get a foot pedal? If not, does anyone have recommendations on type/style of stationary bike? Thanks!

Period during/after surgery

I (14f) have my left PAO in a few days (it was delayed 😭) and I’m going to have my period any day now. Is it difficult to change pads after surgery, will I need help? Also, is it an issue to have my period during surgery? Thanks!

Mouse ID? [Bay Area, California]

We took it inside and fed it a grape, then immediately released it. What mouse is this? I was thinking Western Harvest Mouse but I’m not sure.

First PAO is in a week, anything I need to know? 14F

I’m so fricking terrified about it, I’ve been worrying more about it than all my final exams combined. Honestly it would be great to just get some sympathy from someone who’s experienced it, because although my friends are really sweet, they can’t even imagine having their pelvis broken in three places and getting screws punched through the bone. Last-minute advice is appreciated, and I’d love to see good recovery stories! Thanks for reading, and if you have hip dysplasia I wish you good luck in treatment and recovery :)

Idk if this is the right place to ask but how do I ask for my crush’s contact info?

I don’t plan on revealing that I have a crush on him (and dating is deffo out of the question), but I won’t see him again after tomorrow (he’s a graduating senior) and I feel super nervous about asking. I’m REALLY shy and socially awkward and the thought of asking slightly terrifies me, but he’s also one of the most interesting and amazing people I’ve met and I want to be able to contact him. Can someone please give me some advice?? Thanks in advance 😊

I found this ~5mm tick on my skin. I don’t think it bit me but I’m not sure. Seek says it’s a Pacific Coast Tick, but I’m not familiar enough with tick field marks to be confident about that ID and I know Seek can be inaccurate. Does it carry infectious diseases that I need to worry about?
