I volunteer with Coastal Purrs Cat Rescue and we are looking for a new foster home for a pair of black cats. They are sisters and love each other, so we really want to keep them together if possible.

These girls were moved on short notice when their former foster had a family emergency and could no longer foster. We did not have another foster available to take them and they unfortunately have to spend most of their time in large crates. They're not happy and desperately need more space to run around and play.

They are one year old and very shy at first, but they are very sweet girls once they feel safe. They love to play with wand toys and are so smart! Their former foster was teaching them words with talking pet buttons. They get along well with other cats, small dogs, and would probably be fine with kids (as long as they're respectful of boundaries).

I volunteer with Coastal Purrs Cat Rescue, a VB-based 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to rescuing stray/feral cats and kittens.

This kitten season has absolutely crushed us and we took in over 200 kittens, rescued from outdoors, through spring and summer. I lead the trapping team for a local cat rescue and these are my most recently trapped kitties. A true rescue - they had the worst case of fleas we've ever seen. Gums white from anemia and covered in flea dirt. They've been bathed and treated for fleas, and are on the mend!

We are working on socializing now. They are about 12 weeks old so towards the end of the window where it can be done, but they are making good progress already. Macaroni and Ravioli love to hiss, but they don't really mean it. Tortellini and Linguine are perfect boys and hide if I move too fast, but they're not hissing any more. I can pet them all with bare hands and they've started playing in front of me.

If you're local to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, we are looking for a foster for them! They can all go to one foster, or be split into pairs. They're in my garage crates right now, which are set up to hold ferals for TNR. Now that they're flea-free, they are ready for a proper indoor home. I volunteer with Coastal Purrs Cat Rescue and we are looking for a foster for these kittens. All boys, about 12 weeks old, and can all go to one foster home or be split into pairs. They have been treated for fleas/worms and have been thoroughly bathed. They're still nervous around people and need some socialization, but they have already come a long way and easily allow pets with bare hands.

I trapped them on Sunday in VB and these poor boys had the worst flea infestation we have ever seen. I handle the trapping and TNR for my rescue and don't usually foster, but agreed to put them in my garage crates because of how severe the fleas were. They have been fully treated and are now flea-free, and are in need of an indoor foster home.

If you're interested in fostering a pair (or all 4), click here to fill out our foster application. I've had several people ask about the requirements for fostering on previous posts, so here is a summary:

What you DON'T need:

1. To be a homeowner. As long as you have a lease that allows pets (or the owner of the home you live in is ok with pets), then we are good to go!

2. To be home all day, every day. Many of our fosters work outside the home full-time. As long as you can commit to interacting with the kittens enough to socialize them, then you can foster!

3. To be able to afford 4 cats at once. Coastal Purrs provides all supplies, including food, litter, a crate/playpen, blankets, towels, toys, supplements, and anything else you may need. We also pay for all vet care. There is no expectation for fosters to pay for anything out of pocket, unless they choose to do so.

4. To have a home with no other pets. As long as you have space to reasonably quarantine for a week or so, you can foster! This can be a separate bedroom, a spare bathroom, or just a blanket covering the crate to keep your resident cat from sticking her paws inside.

5. To have experience fostering. Everyone is a beginner with their first foster, and we have a great group of people who are willing to help out newer fosters. I have gone to several new fosters in the past few weeks to assist with giving meds, trimming nails, and teaching the art of the purrito.

What you DO need:

1. To be willing to foster. That's literally it. If you're willing to foster and learn as you go, then we'll work the rest out. Fosters save lives. Animal rescue is a community service, but it needs community support and involvement in order to do the work.

I volunteer with Coastal Purrs Cat Rescue and kitten season is absolutely crushing us this year. We are at 110% capacity and all other rescues are totally full. I exclusively do our trapping and TNR for adult ferals and still ended up with kittens in my spare bathroom. And still, we are getting requests to pull kittens from animal control every day. They are totally full and completely out of room, and people are bringing in adult cats and litters of kittens. They took in 22 yesterday!! They have no choice but to euthanize for space when private rescues can't take them, and the Norfolk and Chesapeake city shelters are in the same boat.

Please, consider fostering for a rescue. Any rescue, not just mine (although I'd love it if you chose Coastal Purrs!), or any city shelter.

When you foster kittens, it is usually only a commitment for a few weeks because they typically get adopted quickly. You only need a quiet corner of a room to put a pop-up playpen, or a spare bathroom if the kittens are already socialized. They do not take much space at all. Rescues and shelters provide all the food, supplies, vet care, and will guide you through the process.

I volunteer with Coastal Purrs and we have a table set up. Lots of other cool vendors - local authors, jewelry, handmade quilts, tea, and all kinds of crafty things!

I volunteer with Coastal Purrs Cat Rescue and we are looking for a foster for Pops, a senior boy with a beautiful black coat.

Pops was an owner surrender to us in 2024 and was adopted by his original foster last spring, but she is sadly no longer able to care for him and has returned him to the rescue. He has chronic rhinitis, which is essentially kitty allergies- sneezing and runny nose. He did have a comprehensive panel for multiple different viruses and infections and everything was negative, so his condition does not appear contagious to other cats. He's just a sneezy boy!

Pops is about 6 years old, neutered, up to date on all vaccines, and gets along well with other cats. He is also a toothless boy, having had full mouth extractions due to dental issues last year.

This is Jewel, my latest foster cat. We rescued her and her 5 little kittens last week. The kittens are with another foster and Jewel came to me for TNR but surprise! She is so friendly and deserves an indoor home.

I think she's around a year old. She is in good health and was spayed/vaccinated last Thursday. She's negative for FeLV/FIV/heartworms and has been treated for worms and fleas, although she didn't really seem to have any.

I don't know how well she gets along with kids or other cats, but she isn't bothered by hearing or smelling my cats through the door. My gut says she'd be alright with kids and cats, and possibly small dogs. Overall, she is pretty chill and really just wants nothing more than unlimited cheek scratches.

She is available to adopt through Coastal Purrs Cat Rescue! I'm hoping to get her into our PetSmart or Petco store kennels as soon as there is space, but she is still fostered with me for now.

I volunteer with Coastal Purrs Cat Rescue in Virginia Beach and do all of the trapping for this rescue. Today, in just one day, we've received five (5) requests to take in litters of kittens born to stray cats in peoples' yards. Sadly, we are at capacity and have been for several weeks. We cannot help any of them, and all other rescues in the area are full too. Please consider fostering for a rescue! Most kittens are adopted quickly and it's usually only a commitment for a few weeks. The rescue will provide all supplies, food, and vet care for the cat or kittens. All we need is for people to "donate" space in their homes. Kittens do not take up much space either - a spare bathroom is great, and we often keep them in large crates or pet playpens!

If you feed strays, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HAVE THEM SPAYED OR NEUTERED.
