Yay. This guy wants to start a militia

The guy from Carrollton, who advocates breaking the jaws of VB councilmembers and is the subject of a Secret Service investigation (recent TV news coverage) is starting a fun little group. Based on the photo I’m sure it’s gonna be peaceful

Virginia Beach mulls data center moratorium until it can devise regulations

Virginia Beach City Council will consider a 12-month moratorium on new data center permits to give local officials time to establish regulations.

Local planning staff faced challenges setting clear standards because the industry lacks established guidelines on what to allow or avoid.

The city joins Chesapeake and Suffolk in using moratoriums to manage concerns over large-scale facilities and their impact on electricity, water and noise.

Just wanted my fellow Virginia Beach natives to know that the City of Virginia Beach wants me, a Virginia Beach native, to visit the City of Virginia Beach and paid good money to Reddit to let me know.

You’d think with AI so prevalent, it’d be used to target ads to, ya know, people who don’t already live here.

(Not blaming VB. Reddit needs to get its shit together.)

Virginia Beach mayor seeks to rein in rowdy meeting crowds

VIRGINIA BEACH — Crowd members who booed loudly or hurled sassy comments at speakers and council members supportive of selling a city-owned golf course to a private developer disrupted last week’s City Council meeting, said Mayor Bobby Dyer.

He wants to put a stop to it going forward.

Dyer will propose new conduct rules for council meetings, possibly through an amendment to the City Council’s existing speaker policy, at Tuesday’s informal council meeting, he said.

“People feel they can come in and be uncivil,” Dyer said. “We can’t condone that type of conduct.”

More than 300 people attended the public hearing on the sale of Virginia Beach National Golf Club to Dragas Cos. last Tuesday. The local homebuilder plans to reconfigure the Pete Dye-designed 18-hole course to accommodate more than 650 homes off Nimmo Parkway — priced for mixed incomes — and construct a childcare center.

Before the council voted on the deal, approved in a 9-2 vote, members of the public were allowed to speak. Seventy people signed up, evenly split for and against.

When proponents of the deal addressed the council, some against the sale booed or made snide comments that could be heard across the room. In contrast, those who spoke against the project received booming applause and cheers.

Dragas supporters also clapped loudly for proponents of the sale.

Throughout the meeting, Dyer tried to rein in the noise, pleading with audience members to be quiet and respectful, but to no avail. The exchanges went on for several hours, with some people standing and pointing at the dais. Just before the final vote, as audience members shouted at council members, Dyer struck his gavel on the table and said, “Folks, you’re not helping yourself.”

Dungeons & Dragons groups?

I've played a little bit of D&D in the past and want to get into it again, but I don't know anybody here. I'd like to join a fresh campaign as a player with others around my age range if possible? 17-25?

Have you ever experienced something genuinely strange that you still can't explain?

I'm looking for people willing to sit down for an interview and tell me about unusual experiences they've had.

I'm interested in UFO/UAP encounters, strange creatures, ghosts/hauntings, missing time, bizarre encounters in the woods, unexplained events, strange coincidences, possible abductions, and anything else that left you thinking "what the hell was that?"

You don't have to believe your experience was paranormal. I'm interested in hearing the story as you experienced it, including people who aren't sure what happened.

I'm based in Hampton Roads / Southeastern Virginia, and I'm especially interested in finding people locally, but I'm open to stories from anywhere.

No judgment, no ridicule, and anonymity is available.

If you have a story you'd be willing to talk about, DM me. Even if you're not sure your experience is "weird enough," I'd still love to hear about it.

And if you know someone with a story, tag them or send this their way

Ghost in IMAX

Hey there. Anyone in here plan on going to see Ghost's concert film next week at the Lynnhaven AMC IMAX? Look forward to seeing you there. Just remember their policy does prohibit face paint and masks, but they do encourage costuming. I get to be a ghoul for a night!

WATER BUGS HELP

Okay so for background I live in Virginia Beach, have lived in my home since I was a small child, it's very old , lots of holes in walls, lots of cracks probably more than I can even count around the house.

For the past week I've seen about 5 HUGE roaches, oriental and American. These are about the size of BIC LIGHTERS! I typically get some water bugs when it rains due to the area, but these are constant now and every single night seeing multiple. The issue is I'm a minor who lives in a home with dead beats who don't want to do anything about the cracks / openings for them getting in.

The main issue for me is that I have a crippling fear of them and involuntarily scream, feel dizzy and start sweating when I see one. I've been getting 0 sleep and have been absolutely restless and haven't been able to get more than 2 hours of solid sleep per night and once I'm up I am frantically checking each crevice and wall.

It's affected my mental health so heavily that I haven't been able to sleep or go into certain parts of the house. I'm afraid of my own room, the stairs , the bathroom and even going outside.

How can I help this without covering things? Is that even possible? I could cover some things but I won't be able to cover every hole in my house without the help of an adult someone PLEASE help it's ruining my metal health and life .

Nice pet-friendly hotels on the beach

Hi All,

Was wondering if anyone has recommendations for nice pet-friendly hotels? I had my heart set on staying at the embassy suites but their hotel policy says you can't leave your dogs unattended in the room, which limits our vacation. Does anyone know if that policy is strictly enforced? If so, any recommendations on other pet-friendly hotels of similar quality?

Thanks in advance!

Surveyor Question

Hello all, I purchased my home in winter of last year. When I bought the home, the backyard fence was not complete with only 2 out of the 3 sides put up. So, I had a contractor put up the last side onto the existing fence and finish off where I’d image the missing side naturally was. The man I bought this house from also owns an empty lot next to me. Fast forward a year and a half later, I get a note on my door saying that he lost out on a sale because the fence that I put up is outside of my boundary and intruding onto his lot. I’m surprised by this because the fence doesn’t even go beyond where my driveway lines up to. In light of this, he’s asking that I downsize my fence and that the driveway that I’ve been parking in doesn’t even belong to me and is actually a part of his lot. I’ve attached pictures for reference so you can see how alarming and confusing this is. In some old photos I’ve found of the house, the previous owner had his fence situated exactly like how I have it now, which is puzzling. I find it hard to believe that a driveway that looks as old as my house actually belongs to an empty lot (with trees and shrubbery growing in it that seemingly hasn’t had a house in place of it for years).

So my question is: does anybody recommend any surveyor companies that can map out my property for a decent price point? Has anybody had any similar issues? I’ve contacted my title company but they don’t have any supporting documents to outline my property. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Neptune Festival

Hello! I’ll be visiting Virginia Beach for the first time next month during the Neptune Festival and was wondering if someone could tell me what part of the town would be the best part to find a hotel in to get the most out of the festival. I’ll be traveling with toddlers, so I don’t want to have to do a lot of walking to get to the events. A specific hotel recommendation would be even better or at least what streets to stay around.

Virginia Beach's Waters Are Under Threat - Comment By August 22nd

Hi everyone,

With the comment period deadline approaching, I wanted to share an important opportunity to speak up about a proposal that could have major consequences for Virginia’s coast, Virginia Beach, and the broader Mid-Atlantic.

The federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is considering more than 2,700 square miles of ocean off Virginia’s coast - starting about 3 miles north of Virginia Beach - for potential commercial mineral leasing and seabed mining. This could involve industrial-scale dredging of the seafloor to extract heavy mineral sands and phosphorites - introducing an entirely new extractive industry into Mid-Atlantic waters.

There are still major unanswered questions about what mining at this scale could mean for our ocean and coastal communities. Among the concerns:

  • Seafloor habitat loss: Dredging could remove or bury habitat that supports shellfish, fish, crustaceans, and other organisms at the base of the marine food web.
  • Sediment plumes and water quality: Mining could generate large plumes of disturbed sediment that travel beyond the mining footprint and affect nearby habitats, fisheries, and coastal waters.
  • Potential contaminants: Disturbing buried sediments raises concerns about heavy metals, radioactive materials, and other contaminants entering the water column and food web.
  • Fisheries and aquaculture: Commercial fishermen, recreational anglers, charter captains, seafood businesses, and shellfish growers all depend on healthy water and productive marine habitat.
  • Wildlife: These waters support sea turtles, dolphins, whales, Atlantic sturgeon, seabirds, and other migratory species, including the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale.
  • Tourism and coastal economies: Clean beaches, fishing, boating, wildlife, and recreation support businesses and communities throughout coastal Virginia and the Delmarva Peninsula.
  • Coastal resilience: Important questions remain about how removing large volumes of offshore sediment could affect sediment movement, shoreline stability, erosion, and storm protection.
  • Existing ocean uses: The area is already heavily used for fishing, commercial shipping, military operations, recreation, and activities associated with NASA Wallops and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport.

Perhaps most importantly, commercial hard-mineral mining has never occurred in U.S. federal waters. There is too much at stake to rush toward establishing a new offshore mining industry while so many environmental, economic, and operational questions remain unanswered.

Make your voice heard

BOEM is accepting public comments, and personal comments matter. Whether you live near the coast, work on the water, fish, own a coastal business, visit the beach, care about wildlife, or simply value a healthy ocean, BOEM should hear from you.

Submit an official public comment here:
https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/BOEM-2026-0100-0001

You do not need to be an expert. Share your connection to the coast, what places, wildlife, businesses, fisheries, or activities matter to you, and why seabed mining concerns you. Most importantly, clearly ask BOEM not to move forward with commercial mineral leasing and seabed mining off Virginia’s coast.

Please share this information with friends, family, fishermen, business owners, community organizations, and others who care about the Mid-Atlantic coast.

For our coastal communities, the ocean is much more than scenery - it supports livelihoods, traditions, fisheries, tourism, recreation, wildlife, and local economies.

There is too much at stake - and too much we still do not know - to turn the Mid-Atlantic into a testing ground for an unprecedented offshore mining industry.

Thank you for speaking up and helping spread the word.

Dermatologist who will take time to understand my concerns

Hi! I recently went to a dermatologist and wasn’t particularly happy with the medication I was prescribed (I have HS). The pills give me severe leg cramps to the point where I can’t sleep at night, and the doctor just told me to lower my dosage from 100mg to 50mg, which hasn't helped.
Does anyone know a good dermatologist in the area who takes Tricare and actually listens?
