Can we agree that these three are the must play installments of the franchise?

I’m not talking about the three “best” (although there is an argument for it). But what I mean is if you just like video games, these are the most important installments for someone to experience.

RE1R completely perfected the survival horror genre with fixed angles and is arguably the best one. RE4 is most likely responsible for your favorite game and is maybe the most iconic one here. And I know it’s perhaps the oddball pick but I genuinely believe RE7 is more of a must play rather than both versions of RE2. Jack Baker is still an icon, the Baker Estate is beyond memorable. Every aspect of the game is a modern classic. It’s highly influential in the Twitch / YouTube scene and still has games like Silent Hill Townfall coming out in large part due to RE7. People who don’t know what the fuck a Resident Evil is know about RE7. I’m guilty of this myself!

I’ve been looking around at what are the must play games in some of my favorite franchises and this is what I landed on for Resident Evil.

My ratings for Game of Thrones

The average IMDB list is pretty accurate for the first four seasons in my opinion but I feel the second half of the show is highly overrated. A few things I’m biased on like 5x8-10 and 6x9-10. Thoughts?

Do you consider most or even all of the voice actors / actresses to be the definitive voices for their respective characters?

For reading comics, for example. Aside from the more obvious ones, I believe almost every voice within these games to be the canon voices for the characters while I read comics. Catwoman and Two-Face are the biggest highlights for me. I cannot picture another voice for them. Calendar Man, Mr. Freeze, Bane, Poison Ivy. All of them are great as well. ESPECIALLY The Riddler. Aside from the three legacy voice actors from B:TAS, I believe he is arguably the most perfect for his role. Hugo Strange is another one that’s hard to imagine as anyone else. The only “meh” ones for me is Jim Gordon (All of them) and Ra’s Al Ghul. I just feel that there’s been better performances throughout the characters lifespan. Anyone else not mentioned is most likely an amazing pick I haven’t thought of.

Do you think “The One Piece” will be too fast? Or will the 40-45 minute runtime help elevate that?

One of my personal favorite arcs in the anime is Loguetown. It felt like a very cozy “calm before the storm”and gave the strawhats a chance to go on their own little side quest for a minute. It was such breath of fresh air after a very intense back to back arc of Baratie and Arlong Park and had some amazing moments with Luffy standing where Gold Rodger stood.

When I read the manga I was actually quite a bit disappointed from how quick it was. It was nearing breakneck speed for me and I’m concerned that The One Piece might remove some of the smaller moments added from the anime. Especially since most of Loguetown was originally intended to be in the manga but got cut due to page constraints.

Maybe the 7 episodes and 44 minute runtime per-episode will help out that a bit but it sounds to me that they want to speed run through some of the earlier East Blue / Alabasta arcs. I think the average 14 episodes and 22 minutes would’ve been fine to me.

This is a very small example but just something I thought about. I very much am excited this remake I don’t think these concerns will happen, or at least that badly.

I’ve read the main four essential beginner comics for the Batman. Any advice on where I should go next?

I’ve read Year One, The Man Who Laughs, Long The Halloween and Dark Victory. I’ve throughly enjoyed them all and I feel that I’m at a point where I could almost read what looks good and not feel *too* left out.

I’m not really into reading absolutely EVERYTHING to understand a certain run. I’m trying to read the best of the best / the most essential and then I could expand upon it from there.

I definitely think my next steps are Robin / Batgirl: Year One. Maybe Hush, The Killing Joke, A Death in the Family and Under the Red Hood from there? I might pick up The Dark Knight Returns as well.

I’m interested in Knightfall and No Man’s Land but I know that there’s quite a few spin-off’s and prequel comics. Are those absolutely necessary? I know there’s three Knightfall trade paperbacks and I like those. Are those enough for that story? No Man’s Land I’m a bit lost.

The whole “Legends of the Dark Knight” is fascinating to me. I know that there’s a few collections and would like a recommendation on which ones those are if possible.

Thanks!

What are your thoughts on “Batman: The Man Who Laughs” ?

This is now my third Batman comic book that I’ve read after Year One and The Long Halloween. I liked the art a lot and detective work Batman does throughout. I especially loved the ending fight between Batman and Joker to have Batman make a pretty intense move to cut off Gotham’s water supply. It was really an outside of the box solution. And to have Bruce Wayne fund it to fix it, that was really smart and a nice way to use both of his identities to solve the same problem.

My problem with The Man Who Laughs though is that it’s definitely not a comic that stands on its own. If you’re just starting to get into comic books I would highly recommend reading Year One and The Man Who Laughs back to back. They both compliment each other perfectly, especially given how relatively short they are. I think it would’ve improved my overall feelings on it if I did. Because even though The Long Halloween feels like the true sequel to Year One, there’s a few pieces of the puzzle I felt were missing with that book and I think that this one feels the void in some areas.

The Man Who Laughs should be a must read for new readers and especially after Year One. I can’t see recommending The Long Halloween without these two first in my opinion. Overall I’d give The Man Who Laughs about a 6/10… maybe a 7/10.

Why is “The Long Halloween” considered Year 2? I think it taking place during Year 3 or 4 would allow for more breathing room.

Bruce Wayne’s first year as The Batman takes place throughout Frank Miller’s Year One. The story begins in January and concludes in December. If The Long Halloween takes place during his second year as The Batman, that means that the story begins on Halloween of Year Two.

So there’s roughly 10 or so months between the two of him meeting The Joker, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Mad Hatter, The Riddler, Calendar Man, Solomon Grundy and possibly a few others that I’m forgetting. Does that not make any sense to anyone else? I understand the Joker since he was teased at the end of Year One but that’s a short amount of time to meet various “fantastical” villains when he just started.

And not only that, but a majority of the comic is in Year Three anyway. So why is it considered Year Two when there’s only three-ish months of him actually in Year Two. And I felt that it being Year Two doesn’t allow for enough time for the Batman, Jim and Harvey dynamic to feel earned if it were a few more years in Post-Year One where we seen a small relationship between Batman and Harvey. Batman should have a decent amount of time to team up and work with Harvey before his fall into Two-Face.

In my headcanon, the story would begin at the end of Year Three. A whole year dedicated to other various Batman comics in Year Two, and add another 10-ish months on top of that as well for the beginning of The Long Halloween.

I’ve only read Year One and The Long Halloween so maybe I’m missing something! I’m open to discussion.

Why isn’t Catwoman: When in Rome available anywhere?

I just read Year One and The Long Halloween as a new comic book reader and I’m looking to finish up Dark Victory alongside When in Rome to finish up the Jeph Leob and Tim Sale stories but it’s not available anywhere. I know there’s an Omnibus of the three-four stories together but I already bought and read TLH and I’m not looking to drop $80+ featuring a comic I already read. Maybe a Compact Comic Edition of it will come some time soon?
