she is so well trained for this role
I wouldn't have blinked because my contact lens probably fogged everything by this point.
Nikki is confused
I always thought WishNikki was using the bottle to knock out RealNikki to remain in control.
Inde almost threw up on Michael
Prop error. I heard the hose that is supposed to projectile vomit shot back into her throat.
Pretty cool they both like X-Men
Inde is Rogue and Michael is Cable. Michael Johnston voices a younger version of Nathan Summers (Cable) in Season 2 of X-Men '97.
What would you have done if you were Bear? How would you have handled the situation?
Different scenarios when...
- Nikki pushes to stay with you for the night
- Nikki tries to kiss you and suddenly freaks out
- Nikki wants to date you
- You learned from Ian during the dinner scene
- Nikki starts yelling at you in the middle of the night
- You found out you were eating your cat
- You hear about Ian's party
- You got home and Nikky just threw up and lose control of her bowel movements
- Nikky hurts herself during the party
- She refuses to go the emergency ward
- Sarah texted you at night
- Nikki begs you to kill her
Tomorrow I will be watching it again with my parents, going in with the thought: What if Ian lied?
"When I have a crush on a guy, nobody knows."
Ian weaponizes Nikki's openly flirtatious personality against her. Giving her car rides? She stole his hat? The photo booth pic? Her crying? Plenty of ammunition. But kept it away from his friend group to avoid awkward confrontations.
When Ian sees Nikki and Bear dating, he tries to talk him out of it. Made up Nikki's father didn't have cancer despite hospitals would never reveal patient information. Connections to Washington...how? So after all that didn't work? Fine, he uses the nuclear option by telling Sarah, giving her hope to use it to break up the two.
This would make the dynamic even more sinister. Bear is truly alone, turn to his best friend, who has his back with a steak knife pressed against it. And even more empathetic for Nikki's situation.
Let's see how it goes.
Hot take: Was Bear attracted to Nikki’s personality or her looks?
I think Bear was attracted to Nikki’s personality and emotional intelligence more than her looks. Something that he doesn’t have. Perhaps it's what he wanted to have himself but don't know how to get.
When Bear was practicing his confession, his speech revolved around how he felt with her, how kind she is, and the vibe she gives off rather than her looks. He didn’t even compliment her hair nor her style.
When we finally see Bear giving Nikki a longing look and genuinely smiling, it was when he saw Nikki giving a 20 dollar bill to a homeless man. There were no creepy stares checking her out throughout the hangout.
We can tell a lot with the car scene. Bear was interested in what Nikki was saying but was unable to interact with it, either he was nervous or being too seriously logical or socially stunted.
In the montage, he was vibing at her, not giving her any gross perverted looks. On the surface this looks like there is a genuine connection, but unfortunately, that is all a beautiful lie Bear who couldn’t see at first and chooses not to see until it was too late.
When WishNikki started wearing more revealing clothes for the male gaze to attract Bear (according to the costume designer), we never see Bear giving her objectifying facial expressions, like a stare lingering on her butt or chest. It was usually eye contact.
I hate to bring this up, but even in the SA scene, he wasn’t even staring at her assets at all, but his face in the pillow right next to her face. He wasn’t even staring at her body.
halloween prediction
It will be like a march for Nikki.
why was this different version of the car scene even a thing?
Bro should've said "I wish I know how to be attractive"
But the actors for Nikki, Sarah, and Bear are very attractive. They nerfed Sarah and Bear's looks very well.
Sarah's reveal was like a surprise brick to the face
I rewatched scenes and moments people pointed out that hint all of it, I never felt the vibe. Bear must be a complete moron for being in this close friend group and still didn't pick it up. Like an outsider. Unless Sarah has other intentions and Ian is complacent to play along. Then the plot thickens. Damn, this friend group is toxic. Awesome movie.
My Pre-Viewing Obsession Story Prediction (will watch it tonight)
[UPDATE] [SPOILERS]
Just came back. It was the funniest horror movie I have ever watched. The toxic relationship and terrible friends was surprisingly relatable (minus the wish and cold/uncaring person Bear had become). So I completely got everything wrong, including the comments. Like a dumb ass with my brain shoved up my rectum. I will annotate it here
[1.] NOPE. Zero relationship at the start. Bear's actor is so good at playing a loser despite being as hot as Nikki. Heck, I ain't even into guys but damn, that is one attractive man, I wish I have his face.
[2.] Only parent mentioned has cancer which could be a lie. Which I have a theory, Nikki's dad did have cancer. NOBODY WOULD GIVE SENSITIVE PATIENT INFORMATION TO A RANDOM PERSON. And a cancer patient can't work and won't look healthy... DID ANYONE FORGET ABOUT CHADWICK BOSEMEN?
[3.] Well, half right, the Wish Nikki is driving Bear out of it but he is too weak to end it.
[4.] Bear's cat died, so I guess without the lack of support, it did drive Bear into a dark path of villainy. I mean, look how supportive his friends are. Honestly, look at Ian. The actor is so good, I just wanna punch that character in the face in his first scene.
[5.] Well, Bear was gonna give the One Wish Willow to Nikki but chickened out. Then used it without much thought. When it starts to work, he did not care about how Nikki actually feels until she starts fucking it up.
[6.] Wish Nikki and Bear did become the perfect couple when there are no outside interference for a moment.
[7.] Well, this was right.
[8.] Sorta true, Wish Nikki is often covered in blood and sweat.
[9.] I think Real Nikki is trying to unalive herself with all those random self harms while Wish Nikki is also hurting herself to contain Real Nikki by knocking her out.
[10. The two of them end up killed by baddie.] Well, Bear did unalive himself instead.
[Comment #1: Oh please don't tell me chad/baddie is/are cheaters. But if there is cheating, I'm pretty sure the guy cheated.] Okay, no cheating. Just Ian hooking up with Nikki which I am still trying to do mental gymnastics. I am rewatching it at home for a third time, I just don't see any chemistry at all between the two. Most I could see is sibling energy. I might make a post about this.
[Comment #2: Okay, fine, I probably missed the obligated dead pan sex scene (Category III in where I'm from is sex or hyper-violent). She is bouncing all over the place and he is a starfish.] Yeah, that was the most unsettling SA scene I have ever seen. It looks like a tiger shut inside a tiny kennel. It grossed me out.
Thoughts:
Toxic relationship This hits way too close to home. I have a relationship that was like a watered down version of this. I am not the best boyfriend, but I did not manipulate/strip my girlfriend's autonomy like that. My girlfriend behaved like Wish Nikki and I was like Bear, I was too young and weak to end it or set boundaries. That intimate scene was too relatable, it was like that scene except the genders were reversed (I woke up in the middle of it but I let her continue because I was scared it would upset her). It didn't bother me back then, but after watching this, now I understand why it should have.
Bear vs the actor: Bear is as gorgeous as Nikki but behaves like guys who looks like Ian's actor. During the entire watch, I felt like Real Nikki waking up from Wish Nikki. One moment, I was like, "heh, bro is so insecure and pathetic, serve him right with that psycho retaliation", then a few moments I got pulled out of the movie and went, "How far the chad has fallen. Wait, what the fuck! He is NOT supposed to be attractive, right?"
I know the actor for Bear is acting his heart out which convinced me that his personality is cringy and weak, but no matter what they do...put him in sweaty make up, unfashionable clothes and messy hair. This is the equivalent of those movies that make the hot actress "ugly" by making them tie their hair up and wear thick rimmed glasses and baggy unfashionable clothes. I mean if they cast someone who looks like Ian's actor Bear, I think it wouldn't have taken me out of the movie so many times. I mean, awkward, shy, good looking guys are weakness for many girls, especially the artsy type like Nikki.
"Do you like me?" That moment was so relatable. I remember I did tell a girl I liked her and she said, "Oh, I was just testing you" that kinda bullshit to feed her ego. So with a girl of 2K likes on IG, I wouldn't have surprised if it was a test. But rewatching the beginning and some Youtube clips, seeing how Real Nikki has two faces. Nikki is flirty to everyone but once one on one, turns into a vulnerable person. When Bear told Nikki "no" in response to her question, I took it as her shields up, being assertive again with the "good", it felt like she was disappointed. I think Sarah might be lying to ian about Nikki seeing Bear like a brother. Or Ian even made that up.
Twist of Nikki's casual hook ups feels like a lie I know about the interviews but I am not taking into the account of the actors' accounts. but I will just look at the movie through my interpretation. It was not set up properly, I am cooking up a new thread and a few more rewatches. I know guys like this who overexaggerates their sexcapades and the guy-bro who thinks he knows all about women after binge watching pick up artist videos. That is definitely going to turn off the artsy romantic types, like Nikki. She would not be into that life style with a guy who looks like that. Molly maybe. But hearing it feels like a violation, not from the narrative standpoint to me which makes no sense, but the equivalent of telling me lions prefer eating soy tofu rather than eating meat. Maybe that's Sarah's intention. I don't know, I think if they cast an attractive actor, I would've bought it.
Didn't read the synopsis, zero trailers, only watched a handful of Youtube shorts. Only know something something supernatural hijacked romance. And everyone is telling me to watch it. Even Alex Meyers and Jeremy Jahns and Redlettermedia made videos... After seeing this pic popped up on my feed, I feel like I am obligated to.
Here are my 10 predictions:
Chad and baddie is the perfect couple in everyone else's eyes, been together since they were in middle school.
Their parents approve of it, even the iron slipper wielding Latina mom accepts chad
Privately, their romance is dying but they have to keep up appearances
Things got worst after their cat died which is the end of the relationship metaphor (saw the dead cat memorial), they end up having a huge fight, Chad broke up with Baddie
Baddie bought a Etsy voodoo charm to keep this relationship (I saw a million "love voodoo" ads on Youtube a few months ago, I blame this movie)
Voodoo supernatural possession unleashes her full potential and inhibition to be the perfect girlfriend, Chad is starting to love her again and the two basically rekindled their relationship, spend time together the entire time during the heal but she has become stalker-ish without him knowing.
When Chad thinks everything is fixed, decides the two can have "me time" but Baddie becomes overly co-dependent on Chad, refuses to let him to hang out with bros (clingy gf trope).
The two are starting to become more unkempt due to a toxic relationship, Chad living in fear while Baddie is refusing to let him go to work (saw the duct tape clip and Chad always sweating and wide-eyed).
Baddie becomes even more scary and violently dangerous, such as self-harm, verbal abuse, suicide threats, death threats to other girls, etc. (saw image of Baddie covered in blood)
The two of them end up killed by baddie.
I know, I know, I am eons beyond late to this party. I heard glowing reviews over this movie. Made by a funny Youtuber. Everyone and their cats are telling others to go see it. All the nine yards. I still wasn't too keen until I saw a few Youtube videos about this on recommendation. What finally got me to pay $20 bucks for a movie date was the scene with a baddie yelling at chad, "Why won't you love me?" while he looks terrified.
Feel free to laugh at my moronic thoughts and post spoilers but please label. I am turning Reddit off until I finished the movie. I am walking in with zero expectations. I checked my movie theaters, surprised this film was still playing in movie theaters despite after two months.
They better not be forcing everyone into saying chad is hot. I am sick and tired of hearing and seeing the trope of every girl is fawning over chad while he is bagging a baddie. I know he's hot. Same to baddie. I know she's hot. I don't wanna hear guys drooling over her either. Like STFU. The more people say a person is hot, the less I find them attractive.
