Audio Follow-Along Ch. 11

I'm going to go ahead and say it (we were all thinking it) Chapter 11 is peak storytelling. So full of the creature's personal accounts from THE first moment of gaining consciousness that I had to change my plans of covering Chapters 11 and 12 together. The poor thing was so very alone out there, cold and wretched, all because his maker couldn't face the implications of his own "ambitions."

Forced into Life and left alone to figure out even his own senses, but this also gave us some of the really nice "little" moments, like learning to distinguish his senses from each other and thus being able to visually recognize birds as the source of the many sounds and soungs he'd come used to hearing (not a fan of sparrows, though, I guess 🪦 rip to them). It's also very sad that humans running away when they see him is so far the BEST of personal interactions he's had with them, and when it wasn't that, it was just violence.

We'll see if I do Chapter 12 tonight, too, as I'd really like to get caught up after falling behind again (but after bad art days, other projects, real life stuff, and generally watching the world crumble to climate disasters, to say nothing of the man-made ones like greed and hatred, I just can't seem to find the flow I had when I first started listening 🤷🏿 not giving up, though).

Frankenstein Follow-Along Ch. 9 and 10

Back again after listening to the next 2 chapters of Frankenstein (I'm still 2 behind chapters which have been released); I've forgotten how entertaining/intriguing this particular story tends to be, with the creature [the creation, the "wretch," the fiends, the what-have-you] >!doing moutain parkour and speaking just as proper of English as his creator!<. I think (and this probably isn't a hot take) he makes the perfectly reasonable bid that, Victor being his creator, he has very little right to hate the being he double-handedly gave life to. The world surely shuns him, so what other solace could he find in man besides his own wretched creator (my word, not his).

These chapters felt like a lot of scenery descriptions, which I would actually love to depict more in depth, but time simply doesn't allow it just yet (if I recall art history correctly, which I may not. It's been at least 5 years, his whole mountain retreat sounds very American Romanticism minus the Manifest Destiny, but also plus the Manifest Destiny since he ruins everything he touches).

Anyway, the only real addition I made from the last one is that I've given better form to my conceptualization of the creator looming in the background (franky can stay blurry). Other than that, I just did some snippet-doodles of things as I could get to them, so Victor struggling with the deaths that are 100% probably kind of mostly his fault. No time for Elizabeth or Father (who seems a little in better spirits after support the trial against poor Justine) I'm also not skilled enough to quick-sketch the idea of a 7~8ft behemoth of a man leaping over ravines and or glaciers or whatnot.

I'm going to try my BEST to listen to 11 and 12 tomorrow. This upcoming, overdue conversation seems like a... "fun" time (no doubt the poor guy has felt nothing but rejection from literally the very moment he opened his eyes).

Ch. 8

Am I overreacting? My father never took me to Bangladesh so I killed his little brother and framed his servant/adoptive sister.

...

Hey Justine, I finally fit you into a sketch, but it appears I've been too late (same as I was for William). There is no justice in a universe that punishes its youth for the sins of their elders 🙏🏿 two looming specters have sealed the fate of two innocents, enacted through the mechanisms of an ill society. No "justice" would have soothed them than to see at least one other killed. They would not have rested until blame had fully been placed on someone that day, and who better than an orphan?

Boo these people, boo the court, boo the judge, boo the interrogator, boo victor, and even boo his (presumably naive) creation.

Triceratops Guy

I've not shared much of my dinosaur/animal "themed" ocs here on Reddit, but I want to start, and I got this sketchy little one of my guy done earlier today and I'm ready to share. This is my first post to the sub, so I'm hoping it goes decent (not karma-wise or anything, just making sure I'm not breaking rules or taboo or anything).

An overdue update

Imposter syndrome isn't quite the word, I, just, generally kinda start unraveling sometimes when what I try to draw doesn't capture the "essence" of what I had in my head (I'm somewhere in between "seeing" whole images in my mind and just being able to imagine concepts or whatever? Fleeting glimpses of something, I guess, so I can't draw what's in my head as if I were *looking* at it, cause it's only half there or something.)

All of this is to say, the last chapter I listened to (Ch. 7, I think?) was full of heightened stakes and emotion, but neither *old man* Frankenstein nor agonizing Elizabeth turned out at all how I wanted, and (surprising as it is) I actually set a timer for 2 whole hours for drawing when I sat down to do this chapter, so it's one of the "sketches" I've spent the MOST time with (except you, willy). I didn't even have *time* to get to poor Justine, presuming she truly is innocent. These folks collected ill-fated orphans like pokemon, I guess, just to make them servants and surrogate mothers (and "cousin" brides-to-be?). Enough about my art block, cause OH BROTHER, THESE GUYS STINK!

Yeah, I haven't done anything with this since I drew it 2 days ago, I just didn't want to post it cause I hated it 🤷🏿.

Dracula Daily Drawings Update

More small edits for more small updates. Harker is still being psychologically tortured and Renfield is still a freak.

I've figured out most of the hands that were causing me problems, so hooray. Unrelated (to the hands, 100% related to Dracula/Dracula Daily) it seems I caught back up just in time for the story to take a small hiatus 🙃 if I find the time, I'll do some work on this during the break so I can start a new image.

Audio Follow-Along Update Ch.6

Chapter 6, eerily lacking in the inanimate-corpse-given-life-then-left-to-wander-around-on-his-own department, but otherwise short and sweet (I say as if *I'm* doing any of the reading myself). Frankenstein's now having panic attacks at the idea of practicing natural sciences or whatever, and (while anxiety is not a laughing matter) it is very convenient for this to have kicked in only *after* bestowing life to a being who had not asked for it, then rejecting its existence outright. This is all neither here nor there, however, because neither is the "monster."

We *do* have Henry and Elizabeth, though, as well as (pardon me, but is this not the... nevermind, I was thinking of Henry *Emily,* though there *is* also an Elizabeth Afton, but these are also just common names, so dismiss all of that as gibberish. Now, back to Frankenstein) another adoptive child, another girl brought into the Frankenstein household to be of service to them? How lovely 🫩 All in all, this chapter was less about "events" and more about atmosphere, so I did little doodles here in there, like Elizabeth writing the letter, and Frankenstein's new phobia. I would have liked to draw the boys on their long walk, but there is only so much time in a moment. [Another funny drawing I thought of was of the girl who they adopted that had to return to her abusive neglectful mother, only for the mother to conveniently die at the start of winter. She clearly did not want to be back there, so in my head, maybe she "accidentally" left the door open and that's how the mother succumbed to the elements 🤷🏿*(a baby's gotta do what a baby's gotta do)*]

Anyway, that's all for now 👋🏿.

Dracula Daily Drawings Update 6

It's been a whole week since I worked on this, but I'm planning to get caught up today (I say for at least the third day in a row)(I'm struggling, okay).

Anyway, short but EFFECTIVE entry back on the... 26th of May. I wanted to draw the actual burning of the letter, but I simply do not (yet) have the time. I need to do more work on character-consistency and faces/expressions, though, so I did an angry Dracula. I give it a 6.5 maybe 7 out of 10, but maybe I'll work on it.

Audio Follow-Along Ch. 5

Alright. I'm all caught up.

What can I say? This man made a whole human(?) and then just left (he would make great friends with my *own* father). Other than that... again, what can I say 🤷🏿 Henry Clerval has joined the call?

Now if you're looking at my sketch of Henry and wondering "Why does he look like that??" I just follow the pen. In mind, he's free-spirited and carefree, so naturally I give him long, flowing hair and a clean ah mustache, don't judge me. (Doesn't he look like he knows how to take care of an old friend?) Frankenstein is supposed to be cowering behind his door in the top left corner, and the creation is dead-center/center-right (casually breaking and entering cause he doesn't yet know any better, I imagine). He's >!8ft tall,!< right?

Attempt #107, Torched

I've been on record saying I was unsure of >!the Torch God!< being real or just some reddit gag to trip up us noobs, but today I got curious and... learned. I was taken by so much surprise, I couldn't coordinate enough to even use potions, of neither the healing nor "get the heck out of there" variety. I know the setup was bad, but I didn't even remotely intend to fight, just witness and dip. I got blindsided, though, and now I'll move with more respect.

It's time for Hero108!

*Missing context, I only started playing last Fall, and I figured I'd have the best time if I did hardcore/expert/large/random and just let the learning process come as it may (rather than tutorials and wiki scanning). It's been fun, but 107 runs in and I have yet to even lay eyes on the Wall of Flesh, so mileage varies.

Audio Follow-Along Ch.1+2

Finally getting around to listening to the beginning of Frankenstein's true story. Truth be told, through all of chapter 1 I was still focused on the image of a man, dragged in from the snow, allegedly burdened by the weight of actions, so I did a little more of that, but I *do* have opinions of the little brat. The word of the day is hubris, cause the story has done a great deal to foreshadow EXACTLY how he becomes the man Robert has brought onto the ship- >!we haven't gotten to that point in the story, but the one thing we all know is that his controlling nature leads him to being both a horrible "parent" and person to the life he brings into being.!< His parents seem like good, decent people, but in providing so much for him, they've *clearly* neglected his social development, so much so that he was so comfortable as a youth thinking of his adoptive "cousin" as, in any way, actually existing as *his,* and if she turns out to be the person I'm thinking she is (again, Junji Ito is the closest adaptation of the story I've personally read, and that's now been many years ago), it's very clear where this idea of/obsession with *possession* leads him.

I did a little doodle of the boy, Elizabeth, and Henry Clerval, with the decision to make them both taller than him, cause I just feel like he's the kind of character who might have let that drive him towards >!wanting to dominate the laws of nature.!< I'm having fun with the spoiler boxes now that I've been able to use them. I also tried to draw lightning striking a tree, but it's certainly not perfect.

Audio Follow-Along Update #2

Today I listened to chapters 3 and 4 of Frankenstein, and a lot happened, but I'm not at a level where I can yet get to *all* of it. I worked a little more on cold, lonely Robert, but then he was in good spirits since he finally had his full crew and ready for the expedition (for whatever reason, he has long, straight hair in my mind. Fitting for a young, hopeful adventurer who doesn't quite follow typical societal norms).

I got a *little* doodle of >!whoever they saw on the ice!< but I spent most of my time on >!the vessel's newest passenger, Mr. Emaciated and Frostbitten. I wanted to just do a little doodle of a sick man, but then Robert continues to describe him so... deeply. He's not just emaciated, but also attractive and amenable(?), with kind and lustrous eyes, but full of expressions of some past haunting. I have to go help my own sister move (I do not write letters to her, we have the internet), but maybe next time I'll get to work on sketches of the man as he started to get better. Now he's healthy enough to share his story, but I only ever had enough time to draw him with tattered clothes.!<

I don't know how much should be spoiler warning-ed 🤷🏿.

Dracula Daily Update (I don't remember which number, anymore)

Really REALLY short entry. Arthur's down for a fireside chat, and he's apparently got ✨️*stories to tell*✨️. I work on some of the Count's pants, and I'm dreading working on the shoes (I'm sure it's obvious. Both shoes *and* hands)

Fatal Glitches- I just need to vent

Bruh. I just lost hardcore attempt #105 to fall damage, but something just isn't adding up here 🤬 (I'm borderline delirious from lack of sleep, but I know I'm sane enough for this.)

Sometimes, this game really kills me. Really. I literally just found the shimmer and was straightening out my drop tube, which was intermittently broken up with cloud platforms.

[As I'm typing this, I'm wondering if I accidentally placed in some leftover snow platforms. I'd better have (it's clearly okay if it was my fault).]

P.S. To my ghostly eyes, they look like all the other cloud platforms.

P.P.S. Final Edit/Verdict: According to more experienced eyes, I used the wrong platform. My death was the fault of my own. I owe my apologies to John Terraria.

Audio Follow-Along Sketches

Hi r/FRANKENSTEIN I've recently started listening to someone reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and as is (maybe a month old) tradition, I doodle alongside listening to the audio. Here, I submit to this subreddit all that I've got by the end of chapter two (I do not draw quickly).

Idk if this is/can even be *considered* spoilers, but this here Robert Walton sounds so candidly cold and lonely, and truth be told, what I wouldn't give to also be freezing out at sea, searching for a friend (or out for some other reason, but still hoping). Sounds tragic, in the most "perfect situation for a starving artist" kind of way.

Dracula Daily Drawings Update #3

I'm late (I was sick and mildly miserable + working on other stuff), but I was finally clear to catch up today on the two very short passages. Fortunately the person I listen to had some other general vampire knowledge to research and was kind enough to read that, too, so I still got to draw for over an hour. *Unfortunately,* because I'm so slow, that time resulted in very slight changes. **Technically, I was able to redraw and further adjust Johnathan's clothes, accessories, and a little bit of hair/face, but I imagine it's only extremely noticeable if you look between these days and the ones from last week or whenever.

Batman's starting to get *real* pushy now 👀

How y'all do grass?

Poor grammar aside, I just (sort-of) finished this JJK Choso, but I didn't like just keeping a plain background, and I'm not all too great with graphic design/patterns, so all I could think of was a background, but now *that's* kicking my butt, too, so... *how y'all do grass?* (any other background suggestions are also welcome. I'm kinda at wits end)

- Thanks in advance 🙇🏿

Dracula Daily *Drawing* Updates

As I continue to listen through/follow along with the Daily Dracula series I found, I use that time to take a break from my other drawings and work on this for as long as the audio clips run (I love when there are multiple entries, cause it gives me more time to draw). I'm a slow worker (only made a *little* bit better as I tried to start the year actually practicing my anatomy and fundamentals), so there's not a lot of changes between these two and the first one I posted, but the changes *are* there. My favorite part is a little doodle of the Count scrambling down a wall (I like to get distracted).

I'm still pretty fond of my depiction of Dracula, although I'm struggling to properly depict the not-quite unibrow (as I understood it) and his "long" mustache (on my very first scribbles, I had iy pointed straight outward, which was goofy even for me.)

I think my Johnathan still looks a tad younger than he is in my head (I may be wrong, but I'm imagining a youthful mid-to-late 30s, as he seems old enough to be taken seriously, but young enough to still be inquisitive in nature and acting at the behest of someone his senior.) Anyway, I made his face a tiny bit longer and maybe wider (I don't remember), and after the shaving fiasco from a bit ago, a little scruffier (maybe imperceptibly so)- maybe it'll grow on me as the story progresses.

I'm going to lose my mind the first time we hit a long gap between entries.

Dracula(?) WIP

Stumbled across a Dracula Daily audio series started this month, and figured I'd stay around for the ride as I never planned to read the story myself. So far, I'm hooked.

[I'm still not in lovewith my depiction of Johnathan, but I can't really see my minds image of specifics/specific things, so 🤷🏿]
