Where am I going wrong? I am trying to get this independent usb c point to run from the same power source as my TV backlight.

I have an ESP32 running a TV backlight on a 10A power supply. I split the power line to try to siphon off approx 2A to power a small usb c that can be used for a separate Led lamp or even another small LED strip.

The TV LED still turns on but no sign of life in the USBc connector. I've plugged in a C6 mini just to test for a power LED.

How do I trouble shoot this? I've reseated the wires a few times but hasn't done anything.

The connector between the USB c piece and the larger power cable could be a point of failure.

Or have I just misunderstood how to connect a usb c to a set up like this and there is something missing?

Please help!

Why is there no data for Body Responses and is there anything I can do about it? Is my Fitbit Air capable of populating this?

Had my Fitbit for a month, this section is always empty. I saw from another Reddit post that I needed to switch on a setting on the Mindfulness settings menu - but my version of the app doesn't display it!! Wtf!

Does anyone have an idea what's up? Does Body Responses work for you? I'm in the UK if that makes any difference.

Is my Fitbit broken? I have two more days to ask for a return if so!!

What colour(s) should I paint my narrow hallway to give it more character?

I built the shelf at the far end last week (it has an LED light to illuminate the books and will add a similar one above the front door shortly, with an LED strip downlight.

I'm redecorating soon and looking for ideas how to paint the space to give it a bit more character without it becoming overwhelming as it's quite small and there's no natural light source.

Options could be - repainting door frames, doing the walls and ceiling in different colours, or adding accent colours to the walls. Please share your colour combinations and approaches to make this functional space full of creative form! AI mock ups welcome!

Why does my Home Page have a random "Mummy Universe" tab amongst my pinned channels and how to I get rid of it?

As you can see in the photo, Plex decided I'm a bit enough fan of The Mummy movies to dump them on my home screen. Why are they there and how do I remove?

Is it possible to use an ESP32-C6 Mini as a Thread Board Router? I've been down an AI wormhole, time to convene with humans again 😅

Hello!

Relative beginner here.

I am trying to turn an ESP32-C6 into a Thread Border Router (the one in the pic is actually a C3, but that's all I had to hand).

I bought a £5 Ikea smart thermostat, unaware it required a Thread Border Router to connect to Home Assistant (which I'm also pretty new to).

Google Gemini suggested I could use a C6 to create a cheap Thread Border Router (rather than spend £50+ on an off the shelf), and I followed its tutorial, but have encountered so many errors I have lost track of what's going on and I'm not advanced enough to know what's useful and what's a hallucination.

Has anyone actually managed to get an ESP32-C6 working smoothly as a USB-tethered RCP with the standard HA add-on? Or am I better off wiping this, abandoning the USB route, and trying to flash it as a standalone network device using the ot_br (Wi-Fi Border Router) example instead?

Basically, how do I connect this Thermostat to my HA without having to buy a new router!

The journey I've been on and the steps I have tried are as follows:

  • Set up the official ESP-IDF development environment on my Mac.
  • Targeted the esp32c6 chip using the official ot_rcp (Radio Co-Processor) example project.
  • Configured the firmware to utilize the chip's native USB-Serial/JTAG controller (CONFIG_OPENTHREAD_RCP_USB_SERIAL_JTAG=y) so I could plug it in directly via a standard USB cable.
  • Successfully compiled the project and flashed the binary via terminal using idf.py flash. The flash completed perfectly and returned a successful hard reset via RTS.
  • Plugged the flashed ESP32-C6 directly into my Home Assistant OS hardware.
  • Configured the official OpenThread Border Router add-on, pointing it to the newly detected Espressif USB path with a baud rate of 460800.

The Problem & Logs

When I attempt to start the OpenThread Border Router add-on, the container crashes and refuses to run.

Looking closely at the logs, Home Assistant successfully finds the USB port, but the ESP32-C6 goes completely radio-silent during the Spinel protocol handshake. It ignores the initial reset command and property query entirely:

>

Because the chip doesn't respond to the universal_silabs_flasher probe, the entire initialization sequence falls over and kills the add-on container:

>

I’ve read bits and pieces online about native USB logging polluting the binary Spinel stream or internal ESP-IDF VFS driver bugs, but I'm completely out of my depth trying to fix them in menuconfig.

Any advice or sanity checks would be massively appreciated!

Help me figure out how to make my ultra generic hallway a bit more functional/ stylish /nteresting!

Entry hallway to my flat has no character at all and not much real estate to play with. I've done a few mock ups of either a simple floating shelf or going all in with a round the top book shelf. Not sure it's oppressive or overkill. I've also put a snap of the hallway looking the other way.

Please share your feedback on the shelf idea - will it backfire?

And any other ideas / options!

Portfolio planning for stock market crash or nah?

New to FIRE. Late last year I received a very large settlement which along with my property puts my total net value at around £1.3mill. overwhelmed by the sudden influx of cash, I put around 400,000 in MSCI World eft as a set and forget strategy. The rest I still currently have in cash in a high interest account while I figure it out.

But all signs are pointing to a brutal stock market crash at some point.

It feels like a huge exposure, receiving the money I may have to survive off for the rest of my life (I am disabled and currently unable to work) at a time when everything points to imminent collapse, but do I just have to suck it up and understand the long game?

Or are people that rely on EFTs for FIRE comfortable with their portfolio in the current climate, where the US is no longer the center of the world despite acting like it is, and it's led by a corrupt government/ tech oligarchy that are hoovering up all our savings to fund endless AI expansions that they say will bring about the end of money itself (hot take lol). Doesn't seem like a powerful position to be in as an EFT investor.

Thoughts?

Internet speeds super slow on Quest 2 - how to fix the bottleneck?

I have 500 mbps internet in my house that works as advertised on all my devices, but for some reason on my Quest 2 it's always struggled to get above 50mbps. I've always just tolerated it but have had some annoyingly slow downloads recently so I'm wondering if there's anything I can actually do about it?

Who is actually responsible for this mess and how did we get here?

Well CS platform owners did another dirty protest on their own doorstep today eh? But how?

My hot take: Couchsurfing was never really a “product” in the way most tech platforms are. It was a community first, and the platform was just a thin layer holding that together. Its success came from trust, generosity, and a shared ethos—not from good UX, solid engineering, or thoughtful product development. In a weird way, it survived despite the platform, not because of it.

That’s what makes the long-term decline so baffling. Over the years we’ve seen:

  • The shift from a community-driven project to a venture-backed company
  • The introduction of paywalls/subscriptions
  • Multiple redesigns that seemed to ignore how people actually use the platform

And now this latest update, which honestly raises a harsher question: how does something this fundamentally broken even get shipped? In most startups, something at this level—both technically and in terms of user experience—wouldn’t survive basic QA, let alone make it to production. Yet here it is, live, affecting everyone.

Love the origin story of Casey Fenton founding CS after a trip to Iceland where he emailed students for a place to stay, but what actually happened next and how is the whole thing tone deaf?

So I’m trying to understand:

  • Who actually owns Couchsurfing now, and what’s their incentive structure?
  • When it transitioned from community project to company, what changed internally?
  • Why do the product decisions consistently feel so disconnected from user behaviour?
  • And more bluntly: is this just mismanagement, or is there something structural that explains how such low-quality releases keep happening?

Curious what others think...especially anyone who’s been around since the earlier days or knows more about the ownership/history side.

Utterly baffled.

I updated all the box art on launchbox recently and got a pop up asking if I'd like to download a bezel project, I said yes didn't think twice.

Now I notice some games are displaying bezels that are not actually formatted correctly for the roms in question (see pic)

  1. What is going on?
  2. How do I fix it?

Just tidying up the look an feel of my launchbox is there away to customise the game discovery center page?

Also is there a way to mass fill in missing box art I've noticed some holes now that I've switched to this mode
