anyone regret switching to an electric retractable bed cover after a year?

I am researching electric retractable covers for my F-150 and trying to find feedback from people who have lived with one for more than just the install weekend. The convenience sounds good: open it from a remote or button, keep gear covered, and avoid folding panels blocking the rear window. The Wolfbox SmartSlide is one option I keep seeing, but my concerns are more boring and probably more important.

Do the tracks bind when they get dirty, does rain sneak in around the rails, and does the canister take up an annoying amount of bed space? I would rather hear the annoying long-term details than another quick install impression.

what does IP67 really mean for powered running boards in winter?

Powered running board listing throws around IP67 like it solves every weather problem, but I am trying to understand what that means once the steps are under a truck. Temporary water immersion in a rating test is one thing but salty road spray, pressure washing, mud, and freezing slush feel like a different kind of abuse.

The photo is basically the kind of under-door step setup I am thinking about, which is why I am wondering how much IP67 actually matters once salt, slush, and pressure washing get involved. Has anyone had electric running boards hold up through real northern winters?

I want to know whether the motors, hinges, and wiring stay reliable, or if fixed steps are still the safer long-term choice.

Is leg endurance simply a matter of pack weight or pacing technique

I’ve spent months shaving ounces off my shelter and stove setup, but whenever I hit a trail with a 30-pound pack, my quads still start shaking by mile eight. I keep seeing discussions around active hip assistance systems designed for long-distance treks.

The concept is essentially a waist-mounted wearable system that syncs with your stride to assist leg lifting and forward propulsion, delaying muscle fatigue over long distances but adding roughly 2.5kg of battery and frame weight seems like a big tradeoff and real-world endurance data on rugged wilderness treks is still lacking. Is carrying extra battery weight worth it if it delays late-day leg fatigue?

800 lbs static load on a bed cover sounds useful, but what does it really mean?

I keep seeing electric retractable bed covers advertise an 800 lbs static load rating, and I am trying to understand how to think about that in real use. I assume static load means weight sitting evenly on top while the truck is parked, not bouncing down the road with half a jobsite stacked on it. That still sounds useful for camping gear, tools, or snow load, but I do not want to misunderstand the number and treat the cover like a platform.

anyone with a retractable cover, how much does the static rating actually matter day to day? Is it a meaningful spec, or mostly something that looks good on the listing?

Jeep owners with the roof off, how do you keep a dash cam from becoming an easy target?

I have a Wrangler and the no-roof days are exactly when I want more footage, but they are also when anything mounted near the windshield feels easy to steal or ruin in surprise rain. I am considering a dashcam, but I am not sure what actually works for a Jeep. How are people handling theft, weather, and cable routing on open-air setups?

Do warm compression eye masks feel relaxing after screen-heavy days, or do they get annoying fast?

I stare at screen for most of the day, and by late afternoon my eyes feel heavy enough that regular breaks are hard to remember. people mention warm compression eye masks as part of a wind-down routine after screen time which sounds nice, but I am also a little skeptical because anything pressing on the upper face could either feel soothing or just make me want to rip it off after five minutes. people who actually keep one on the nightstand, does it feel like a real break after work, or did it become another gadget you stopped reaching for? I am mostly curious about comfort, heat level, pressure, and whether it is easy enough to keep using.

Sliding door seat tracks catching beach sand under rear foot protection

During summer beach outings, loose sand constantly collects around the second-row sliding seat track cutouts. Foot steps near the door sliding mechanism push dry sand past the edges of the floor liner, where it settles inside the floor rails.

Vacuuming removes what is visible on top, but sand keeps migrating underneath the edges whenever the captain chairs slide back and forth. whether flexible edge material near seat tracks conforms better to prevent sand entry, or if rigid sidewalls are necessary to block debris.

Floor drain plug access and retention post sealing on Wrangler JL

I run my Wrangler JL with the doors off all summer, and sudden afternoon thunderstorms mean water inevitably gets into the footwells. When I pulled my old floor liners out to reach the floor drain plugs, I noticed water had seeped underneath through the retention post grommets and pooled right against the factory metal pan. I want to keep trail mud off the carpet while still being able to pull drain plugs easily after heavy rain. On a Wrangler, does a raised grommet seal or a removable plug cut-out work better for water management?

drop step sensors acting up after a car wash

Took the truck through a touchless wash yesterday and the passenger side board started acting weird afterward. It opened, stopped halfway, then stayed hanging down until I crawled underneath in the wet driveway to wipe down the hinges and sensor area. I keep seeing people say electric steps are great, but I do not see much long-term talk about water, mud, or road grime around the wiring. I do not want to chase sensor issues every time the truck gets soaked. For anyone running electric steps in rain, mud, or winter slush, do you have to clean or grease the linkage often, or is this mostly an install-quality issue?
