I don't know how much First Nations and Inuit deal with this, but for Métis, the most public conversations being had are among disconnected folks. And that seems particularly true online. This isn't to diminish the struggles of those who are trying to reconnect - but the sheer volume of these conversations make it seem like that's all Métis are. Disconnected folks. Which is not true at all. It's not true that we all "hid" for generations either. The majority of have just been living our lives as Métis without it being some mystical unknowable experience.
It's not all that surprising though, especially online. If I have questions I go to people in person, and I'm at community meetings and events. And questions about "who are we" aren't taking up a lot of time in those spaces.
It's a bit frustrating though. It'd be nice to have online space where every other post isn't "hey folks I just found out I was Métis, what now?"
I have an ASD diagnosis from a psychiatrist in my province, but in order to get federal and provincial consideration, I need a practitioner who can fill out the required forms, and that psychiatrist doesn't do follow up paperwork.
A friend of mine was going to go through the Embrace Autism process because it was accepted by her insurance and jurisdiction so I thought I would try it. I did the initial screening for $625 and it was only then I started to see all the controversy about them.
Well I get the screening stuff back and feel like I wasted my money, but what really upset me is that I asked them flat out if they have a psychologist registered in my province they say yes. Except I can't find them in the psychologist directory.
So I ask for their license number and am told they are licensed in Spain and this license allows them to practice in my province too. But this is not true. Provincial legislation determines this and a foreign jurisdiction cannot simply grant itself the legal ability to license folks to practice here.
I point this out, and ask if they are being supervised by a psychologist here, or do they maybe have a temporary permit, or is there some other way they can practice here legally. Once more I am told their license in Spain allows them to blah blah blah.
I am so angry. They are dancing around the question instead of telling me "no they can't legally practice in your province." A diagnosis from this person would not be accepted where I live! I repeatedly stated the purpose for me seeking this diagnosis and they kept not giving me a straight answer. How can I make an informed decision with these answers?? Also...who there thought they could avoid giving an autistic person a straight answer? Good lord.
So yeah, I am very disappointed and angry I spent the money I did, spent days filling out the screening documents, and all I have to show for it is a bunch of upset emails. I feel stupid and naive, and to be honest, preyed upon. Oh yeah and worried they'll find this post and threaten to sue me or something.
In all three of our local grocery stores, the frozen section of gluten free products has been basically decimated. Instead of about 4 or 5 options for gluten and dairy free pizza, there is now one and no more of the flatbreads. One option for frozen bread. And that's it! We were stoked a few months ago because it seemed like there were so many options all over the store, and growing options at that. What is happening and are you seeing this where you live too?
edit: we are in Canada
I have been taking 10 mg of PMS Rosuvastatin with no ill effects for about four months now. I got a refill and after my first dose of the new meds, I woke at 4:30 a.m. with the worst muscle pain I have ever experienced along my left arm and the left side of my chest and back.
If giving birth with no pain meds was a 10 on the pain scale for me, this was equivalent. It felt like what I imagine getting kicked by a horse feels like. I was worried I was having a heart attack, but my BP and heart rate were just a bit elevated. Then I checked my new pill bottle and noticed it was Taro Rosuvastatin instead. My doctor had warned me that this kind of extreme pain was a rare, but possible side effect that could be rhabdomyolysis, but other than the pain, none of the other symptoms were there.
These drugs are basically identical but my doctor thinks I reacted to a filler in the substitution. I got him to mark no substitutes on my file but now I am super paranoid about substitutions for all my meds!
Has anyone else had this happen, and did you ever find the culprit in the formula?
Edit: btw I am a woman. Also I said the dose was 25 mg when it's actually 10 mg.
Thought I knew this whole airport until a recent trip.
