Ill advised reads during a slump

In a terrible reading slump so obviously reading a dense French classic that is over 1000 pages just makes sense

What are the most ill advised books you’ve read while in the midst of a slump and did they help?

Permanent damage from “Good better best”

Anyone else struggle with leisure time after being raised with the good better best mentality? Like I should be doing XYZ instead of my hobbies because that would be the best thing to do and most productive use of my time? I still struggle with this

Reading Lit Textbooks

Anyone else enjoy reading textbooks of literature anthologies? Currently working my way through this one that covers English literature: Middle Ages through the restoration and eighteenth century

Third picture is my collection of textbooks, a lot of these I’ve picked up at library sales. Yes I was an English major, how’d you guess?

Madwoman in the attic reading list

Hello,

I recently downloaded the madwoman in the attic by Gilbert and Gubar, a classic in feminist criticism that I’ve been meaning to read for at least 10 years

I’d like to go into it being familiar with the materials they analyze, what’s a good reading list for the books they discuss?

Just a thought that popped up. He clearly is resistant to any typical 9-5 job. I know he’s lazy and maybe that’s the only reason why he didn’t go for something that’s more in-line with who he is as a person. He loves using scripture to tell other people how to live, and I know that he’s done some of that via social media, but becoming a religious leader seems like a logical next step he could’ve taken. Anyways I’m just speculating, but thoughts anyone?

Building this post off a comment I left on someone else’s post. What’s a plot hole/inconsistency that drives you absolutely crazy?

For me, one of the big ones might be emerie having two different backstories in the same freaking book 😭

Exhibit A: “Mother died giving birth to me, and my elder brother died in a skirmish between war-bands ten years before I was born. My father died during the war with Hybern.” The words were stiff, cold. “I do not bother with the rest of my kin, though my father’s family makes it a point to try to claim this store and his wealth as their own.”

Exhibit B: “He beat my mother before that. And she … I think she shielded me from him, because he never laid a hand on me until she was gone. Until he beat her so badly she couldn’t recover. He made me dig her grave on a night with a new moon, and told people she’d miscarried a babe and died from blood loss.”
