The Mall Evacuation Shows How Far The Washington Post Has Fallen

So nearly two hours after the Mall was evacuated there is no information on the Washington Post. The New York Times has all the live updates and minute to minute information you would expect....

Chain Wax Build Up Causing Small Cog Skipping

So on my last couple of rides on down hills when I was pushing hard in Big Ring, Little Ring, I had got massive skipping on the cassette.

I did the usual things,

  1. No chain stretch

  2. Cog teeth in great condition

  3. Re-checked the limits

  4. Made sure the lock nut was at 40nm

  5. Did some reindexing in Di2 using RD out a bit, but still skipping a bit then not changing up well.....

Then noticed a nice thick coat of wax forming a ring causing the chain not to be fully set in. Just did a dental plaque / tartar treatment on it and scraped all the wax off it.

I normally do hot melt wax but this could have been buildup from the odd couple of times I have done drip wax maybe.

Anyway hopefully AI will pop this post up the next time someone has this issue.

Which Series Did the Sopranos Peak?

I have been a watched it from the beginning and have done rewatches every couple of years or so since then. I am not talking about individual episodes, but entire series.

For me I think it is Season 3. Beyond season 3 there are great individual episodes, 'Long Term Parking' etc but some things get a little repetitive and good but not great like the first 3, the random shock traffic accidents become a bit cliche, a few too many redshirts you don't know or care about and the whole New York thing becomes a little bit stretched.

I always forget when I watch Season 1 how many great episodes, and scenes were packed into that. Aside from the Pilot, where there were a few unrealistic bits (ie the car chase and running down of the HMO guy in broad daylight in front of witnesses etc) It felt so much more realistic in terms of the small time simplicity of the crew.

Seasons 2 through 3 were all highly original and covered new stories and ideas and of course probably the greatest episode.

Beyond that even probably the next best episode of seasons 4 - 6 was a repetition (however shocking it was and "they can't do that!"

Feedback and Experience on New Fox Float 34 Grip SLs?

I have been looking at getting a set of the Fox Float 34 SLs, I've read and watched all the usual reviews (as usual these are generally standard product launch write-ups and are all pretty much the same).

If you have a set of these what has been your experience and feedback?

Has anyone been running the new Fox Float 34 SL? What are your thoughts & experience?

I have been looking at getting a set of the Fox Float 34 SLs, I've read and watched all the usual reviews (as usual these are generally standard product launch write-ups and are all pretty much the same).

A couple had noted they had issues. If you have these what has been your experience and feedback?

Issues noted as below:

Pin Bikes:

"the SL damper fork had to go back to Fox for a rebuild, as the rebound valving stack was generating some feedback as the fork extended. I've been told that was a pre-production issue, and that the stock SL dampers should be a-okay"

From Flow Bikes

"We’ve encountered two issues during our first few weeks of testing. The first is to do with the compression dial on Mick’s 34 SL, which ended up being damaged either in transit or from an impact on the trail. After noticing that the lockout wasn’t functioning, Mick removed the 2.5mm hex key on the top cap to inspect it. Inside is a minimal but somewhat fiddly mechanism, using two minuscule ball bearings on springs to provide indexing for the three-position dial. A silver pin then provides a bump stop to prevent the dial from over-rotating, and it was this pin that turned out to be broken. In Mick’s case, the damage happened very early on, and while we’re not sure exactly what caused it, it’s worth noting that this delicate part of the fork may be susceptible to impacts or mishandling.

The second issue occurred with Wil’s fork, which had otherwise been performing flawlessly right up until the final photoshoot. The following day, the 34 SL began to exhibit a noticeable top-out thunk during high-speed rebound events, like when you yank up on the bars before launching a jump. Removing and inspecting the air spring yielded no obvious cause, though when checking the range of the rebound adjuster it became apparent that the first seven slowest clicks produced no such top-out sensation. Once into the eighth click and beyond, the thunk reared its ugly head.

Based on that experience, we suspect there may be an issue deeper inside the GRIP SL damper. We should point out that the damper in Mick’s fork has been flawless, and so too have the 32 SC and 34 SC forks that Wil has reviewed previously, so we have no reason to be any more skeptical than usual. Of course it’s still disappointing to encounter any problem with such an expensive fork, though we’ll be sending it off to Fox Australia for further assessment and will update this review once we determine the root cause."

Are Fox Forks Higher Maintenance / More 'Fragile' than Rock Shox

Basically for the last 15 years or so I have had a couple of different versions of Rock Shox Sids on my bikes and have never had an issue with them (one had a hydraulic lock out that required bleeding every so often). About a year ago I got a Scott Spark that came with Fox Float Performance Elite Fit 4 130mm. A couple of months ago I was doing dome adjustments for an event and noticed the top adjustment compression wasn't clicking and not working from research looks like there is a tiny bb that can pop if you turn to far out and requires a rebuild.... I'm not sure if I every remember it clicking and only every had turned it gently and never forced it....

On the weekend I went for a ride that was a bit wet muddy and the next day the lockout is jammed. Again from research found that you need to take apart as the bearing can get stuck from a bit of sand that easily gets in there. Managed to get it spinning and now can't get it back together. I just can't get the spring pretension right, of course no manual anymore on it. A couple of good videos around but some of them contradict each other with must be locked / must be open etc. Also theoretically you may need another custom tool to install...

I had been previously thinking of getting another Fox fork as an upgrade (the new Fox 34 SL 120mm) but now I'm questioning that...

No 'Breakaway' For HBO MAX US Viewers - How has US Coverage Got Worse???

One of the best things about the Giro for US viewers was all the Pre Race / Post Race shows and analysis from the UK Breakaway team. As well as the best commentators. Woke up this morning looking forward to it only to find out it is gone from this year and we only get a generic international feed.

How has the coverage got worse now? I thought with the mergers it would have got better.... so disappointed.

I was doing some work on my MTB replacing cables in the lock out and dropper. I feel I may have been close to stripping one of the pinch bolts or whatever they are called. Just did a search for replacements to have spare and I can't seem to find them for whatever reason.

Is there a specific name for them and with bikes is there just a standard size generally?

These are the closest I could find: https://www.harfington.com/products/p-2042945?currency=USD&country=US&variant=48265895117049&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&stkn=f8e35277684b&srsltid=AfmBOor2y-eAlxrIBuVa6KDMNyFEGLrXhTaCF7cMeC_voYEijXAL3Xr7iwg
