Just finished AOT. I'm surprised by the ending hate, and I want to share my thoughts on Eren.

I just finished Attack on Titan (anime-only), and I have to say I really enjoyed my time with it from start to finish. Before watching, I had heard Eren does some controversial stuff, which I later came to understand when he initiated the Rumbling. But now that I’ve finished it, I’m surprised to see that there is genuine hate for the ending, and I don’t really understand why. I haven’t looked into all the criticisms too deeply, but I have seen people complain about Eren’s character being “assassinated.” I completely disagree; he remains my favourite character in AOT (with Levi, of course, being my second favourite).

To start, Eren has always felt extremely childish to me, and that’s what made him so compelling. AOT is about child soldiers like Reiner and subsequently Eren being forced into a war and having to become something they are not to make hard decisions, without ever being allowed to grow up. This is why I find it so beautiful that Eren harbors a childlike dream of nature being vast, empty, and free for himself and his friends to explore. Of course, that dream is ruined by the existence of humanity beyond the walls, which makes him want to force that childish dream into reality. However, he realizes the dark nature of this "silly dream" when he kisses Historia’s hand.

This impacts Eren greatly. He is filled with guilt knowing that he will one day inevitably act upon that dream, without even fully understanding why. This causes him to hate his childish-self and adopt the more stoic persona we see in Season 4 but it’s all just a facade. When he sees the reality of Marley, he begins trying to justify that childhood dream to himself.

Proving he is just like Reiner. Reiner claimed he killed the innocent people of Paradis because he wanted to save Marley, when in reality, he just wanted to be seen as a hero; that was his selfish justification. Eren does the exact same thing, which is why he admits he is the same as Reiner. They are both broken children. Eren justifies his destructive dream by telling himself it is solely to protect his friends.

However, when he gains the Founder's powers and experiences the full scope of the future, he realizes his own naivety and recognizes how wrong it is to chase his childhood dream at the expense of the world and the people he loves. Ultimately, he sacrifices himself, most of humanity, and his own dream of freedom so his friends can live.

Eren wasn’t a slave to the future. He made his own choices; them being predetermined just means that those choices were always going to be made by him because of who he is. Eren was a tragic child who never got to grow up. He couldn’t even express his feelings to Mikasa normally, which is evident in his desperate, childish breakdown about not wanting her to move on.

I feel that perhaps some viewers got too wrapped up in his Season 4 facade. They couldn’t see that Eren never really changed deep down, which was made entirely evident when he broke down and admitted his selfish childhood dream to Ramzi. That is easily my favourite moment of the series.

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding the exact reasons why some people disliked the finale, but overall, I’m just happy to express my thoughts on Eren. What a crazy, beautiful ride it was!

I hope the Anime makes this form look super creepy.

I really love how demonic and eldritch Yhwach looks here when he comes back to life all black and creepy. He feels so completely inhuman during the final battle, and I really hope the anime manages to capture that vibe.

Is anyone else looking forward to seeing this form get adapted?

Armond was worse than Shane.

I just finished season 1 and I can’t believe how many people actually defend Armond over Shane. His position is completely understandable and justified; he arrives only to realise he is in the wrong room, which Armond proceeds to lie about and gaslight Shane that there was no mistake. Afterwards, Shane has a new problem, which is he is being charged for the pineapple suite that he is not currently occupying. Purely on principle alone this error should be rectified, and yet Armond then decides to gaslight him again. This situation is only resolved due to Shane reaching out to his contacts.

Now finally that should have been the end of it, but no. Armond, now after being scolded rightfully so by his boss, decides to be petty and childish. So, what does he do? He gives a false apology and sabotages a romantic dinner on his honeymoon by pairing him on a boat with Tanya, who explicitly told him she would be an emotional wreck. Also, whilst he could have played ignorant to not knowing, he promised Shane there would only be one other person on the boat, but Tanya of course invited Belinda.

Now after that whole ordeal Shane catches Armond, which gives him the assurance to fire him. Which in my opinion is justified. Put yourself in Shane’s shoes: he has been unfairly screwed around with by the hotel manager and has caught him doing the nasty with his own hotel staff. Lastly, I do believe if Rachel was herself more understanding and actually listened to Shane’s frustrations, he would have calmed down. But they both talked past each other and because of that they both became more unhinged.

P.S. I do like Armond‘s character, but you can't act like he was even remotely justified. Both of them were in the wrong but Armond started it and kept it going.

Who is the creepiest character in Overlord?

For me personally, it’s Pestonya Shortcake Wanko. Her design is beyond creepy. Not only do we never see her eyes, but her face looks like it has been stitched together right down the middle. On top of that, she is a humanoid dog wearing a maid outfit!

What makes it so much worse is how incredibly nice she is. Her wholesome personality just doesn’t match her disturbing design at all. Lastly, her adding "woof" to the end of every sentence is super odd and unnerving to me.

No other character in Overlord really creeps me out, but Pestonya is genuinely unsettling to look at and listen to. She is just super uncanny.

But those are my thoughts. Let me know if you guys agree, or if there is another character you find even creepier than her.

Just realised Overlord is going to end.

I just finished the anime and heard that the light novels will be concluding soon and I can’t help but relate to Ainz more as a character because of it. I feel like in a weird way by watching the series we as the audience will be left with the same sadness and abandonment that Ainz and the Guardians went through after the other supreme beings left. It feels odd because we start the series off by sympathising for Ainz‘s predicament but are then allowed to take comfort as he reassures his Guardians that he would never abandon them, but in reality the series will be ending soon.

I suppose the show's ending hurts more due to the nature of Overlord's story combined with it possibly ending prematurely. I just wanted to share my opinions on this as this news has affected me more so than most endings. I suppose that is because this show's ending sets itself up from the very beginning, causing it to be more poignant than most others combined with losing the uniqueness of what Overlord is. Anyway, I just wanted to share my feelings on hearing this news, and here’s to hoping that the end doesn’t come so soon.

Just finished the Overlord anime and it was fantastic!

I’ve had this show on my radar for some time now because I thought it looked cool and unique. I decided to do some research on it before starting and saw a lot of criticism, but regardless of that, I watched the show anyway and I was thoroughly impressed but now I need more!

I was wondering if anyone would recommend that I read the light novels? My only reservation is that I might find it tedious rehashing the same content, but I would be happy to do so if it offers lots of new content for me to experience. Also, I am mainly interested in Nazarick and the characters from Yggdrasil. I would really appreciate any insight on this, thank you!

Lastly, I just want to say that my favourite characters are Demiurge and Ainz. I think their dynamic is some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever seen in an anime. My favourite scenes are when Demiurge and the others tell Ainz what "his plan" is, whilst Ainz just sweats and takes all the credit for his accidental successes.

Did anyone else like Detective Vin Makazian?

When I watched season 1 of Sopranos I really enjoyed his character and his dynamic with Tony. There was something special about the way he came across as a sad self loathing cop who would air out his problems to Tony. So, naturally I was really sad when his character died I was wondering if anyone else liked his character and wished we saw more of him cause I don’t see him get talked about too often?
