Anyone else notice these "spend limit" dark patterns in AI/API products?

Been digging into how usage limits work on some AI platforms and found something that feels pretty sketchy:

  1. Default monthly spend limit used to be $0, hit your usage cap and you just wait for the reset (4hrs/weekly).

  2. They added a "monthly spend limit" feature so you could opt in to pay for extra usage instead of waiting.

  3. Then they rolled me into a promo: 2x usage + $100 "free" credit, both prominently shown right on the usage tracking screen.

  4. To make that credit spendable, they also silently bumped my monthly spend limit from $0 to $2,000 (!!!). That part wasn't shown anywhere near as prominently, if a reasonable person glancing at the screen wouldn't catch it, it shouldn't be buried in fine print.

I only noticed after burning through $17 of the "free" $100, when I went looking for why it said I was drawing on "API spend."

I've since seen a few posts on FB/Reddit from people with surprise charges in the $40 to $50 range, adding up to $2k+, because they assumed they were still capped at $0 like before.

Anyone else run into this? Curious if silently bumping spend limits during a promo is common practice, or if this is an especially bad case.

New Android Backup Storage Policy & Controls

Just got an email from Google my Android backups (contacts/sms/call history) will start counting towards my storage.

I don't remember agreeing for them to store my sms and call history. But thats another topic.

Anyone got experience replacing Google with homelab selfhost backup endpoint? 🤔

How do you handle your android backups?

Anyone else have issues getting their deposit back from Riva Rentals B.V.?

We rented an apartment through Riva Rentals B.V. for a year and moved out at the end of May. Under the tenancy agreement, the deposit was due to be returned in full within 14 days of the tenancy ending. We received written confirmation that the full deposit (no deductions) would be paid out, with a promise to transfer it within a few working days. That deadline passed. Weeks later, after several follow-ups, we're still getting vague replies like "we're waiting to receive it from the landlord" with no specific date.

Separately, during the tenancy, a clogged kitchen sink took about a month to get fixed despite reporting it well in advance, in late November/early December, it wasn't addressed until the holiday season ended.

Curious if this is a one-off or if others have run into the same pattern with this agency, slow response on maintenance, and especially slow/non-committal on returning deposits after move-out. If you've dealt with them, how did you end up resolving it?

Damp slab in extension, no membrane. Want to lay PVC click. What are the options?

Bought a 1965 rijwoning in Rotterdam. The floor had a visible bulge at the connection between the extension and the rest of the living room. Previous owner thought it was foundation settling. Had a building inspection done before buying, missed it too.

Turned out a pipe buried in the levelling layer had been leaking for 17 years. The moisture had lifted and destroyed the levelling layer.

Removed all the damaged levelling layer, old pipes and cables. Structural slab is fine. No crawlspace under the extension, and no folie visible at the perimeter edges.

Industrial dehumidifier running for a month, pin meter still reads 1.7-15% across the slab, average 7-8%.

Goal: single seamless PVC click floor across the full living room. The extension connects directly to the rest of the living room which has a ventilated crawlspace underneath.

What are the options to get this sorted? Did your slab ever fully dry out or does it stay damp permanently from ground moisture?
