Project Admins MIA?

The project was paused last weekend and we were told that all submitted tasks would be reviewed and payed out by this Friday. Well, its Friday and I still have about 40 tasks pending final approval and haven't heard a word from any of the admin.

Is this normal? Should I expect that I'll never get paid for the work or is there any hope?

SOS 2.5k rpm

1985 318i here with some electrical issue… it has just started randomly idling at 2.5k rpm sometimes. It starts happening completely randomly, sometimes when I hit a bump, sometimes when I’m just stopped at a light. I also got in it this morning and the battery was dead… not great signs lol

Side note, the speedometer only works sometimes… this I’ve chocked up to the grounding on the back of the dial being worn away as it does come and go as I hit bumps but thought I’d add that electrical issue in case it mattered.

Any help at al would be great. I don’t have a lot of money to take it somewhere and I kinda need a car so fingers crossed it something easy ish.

Also, how bad is driving it like this? I can tell the engine doesn’t like it but only when I’m idling it’s really a problem… sadly I need the car

401k + HSA Contribution Questions

I (26m) just finished grad school, and I'm starting in corporate America, but I have a ton of questions about retirement account contributions.

I have already figured, based on my income/ spending, it will be smart to max out my 401k and HSA, but my main question is how to go about doing so.

I've seen online that it's not always smart to max out your 401k early, as you can miss employer contributions unless they offer a true-up-match. How do I tell, or find out, if my company offers this? Secondly, how do I go about maxing out the 401k, and HSA without going over the annual limit? Is this something I have to worry about at all, or will my contributions stop once the limit is reached?

With this, my company will contribute $1,000 to my HSA annually, which counts toward the $4,400 limit. Assuming the contributions do stop when the limit is reached, do I have to be careful not to max it out before the end of the year so that it doesn't block my employer contributions (paid at ~$80/ month)?

In these cases, is it best to just divide the contribution limit by the pay periods and contribute that much? In the case of this year, where I'm starting this month, should I try to contribute as much as possible to save on taxes (I live in CA and have spare income given my cost of living)?

Anyone need a roommate?

Moving to SD in early August and need a place to stay either for a month or so while I look for an apartment or longer if possible/ a decent place.

I (26m) am moving for work and would ideally like to end up in PB area or near the beach. I will be working at a biotech company right off 805 in Sorrento Valley.

I’m clean, responsible, don’t smoke, and no pets. I mostly read, hike, and am happy to either keep to myself or meet new friends.

If you have a room or place, preferably furnished, please let me know!

401k match vs maxing out w/retirement at 35-40

I (26m) am finally starting a job that offers a 401k + match, but am unsure if I should be maxing it out or just taking the match.

I will be making 140k base living in San Diego with a 50k annual spend. I also do some remote contract work but it’s very inconsistent (ranges 0-10k a month). My current net worth is about 535k, allocation shown below. I aim to retire by 35-40 (35-45k annual spend), and all the math I’ve seen suggests I can, but I’m unsure about where to park the money to balance taxes and accessibility, seeing as I want to retire fairly early.

Taxable Brokerage: 410k
Roth IRA: 100k
HYSA: 25k

I’ve seen many times on this thread that you can indeed access the money earlier through multiple routes, and I also have a decent chunk in a normal taxable brokerage. Nonetheless, I’m young and even having done a chunk of research, I’m aware there’s a lot of life experience I’m lacking and nuance missing from many articles, so any help or perspective is appreciated.

Also, because I know people will ask. Yes, I inherited about 120k in 2025, and I am very lucky for being in such a position. That being said, I have a PhD, so I make decent money, have worked since I was a kid, and have always lived off rice and beans to get to the position I’m in. This is the first time I’m raising my yearly spend (from 25k to 50k) because I feel like I can given what I’ve already saved and invested.

Thank you!

Awaiting approval on a lease, which started a week ago?

Long story short I’m moving to San Diego soon and I’ve been looking for apartments. I ended up choosing one of the bigger apartment buildings in PB and went through the process of putting down a $500 deposit and signing all the paperwork. However, the leases official start date was about a week ago and the portal still says pending approval….

I’ve texted and emailed and have only gotten really slow responses that aren’t helpful at all and since I’m traveling internationally I don’t have cell service to call.

Is there anything I can do? At this point with all the red flags I want to just rescind my application and find somewhere else. The only reason I signed the lease to start now is that it was much cheaper than if the start date was in August (when I actually move to SD).

Turing payout schedule

Started my first Turing project over a month ago. The first pay period ended June 30th and I’m still waiting for the approval of the hours on Jibble and for the payout to show on Turing.

Is this normal? Does anyone have experience with Turing and how long it normally takes to be paid out?

It’s my first time working for them and it’s a considerable amount of money so I’m curious how long it will take to actually be able to withdrawal the money.

Perhaps I’m just skeptical of the entire thing but I’d love to have more info and the team leads haven’t mentioned anything, even to questions directly about it on slack so I’m unsure.

26m Need PB apartment recommendations

26m will be working in Sorrento Valley. Looking at apartments (mostly studio but also 1B1B) in Pacific Beach and have it narrowed down to a couple of options. Was wondering if anyone had any insight that could sway me one way or another.

Ava Pacific Beach

  • a little cheaper ($2100/m)

Bay Apartments

  • More expensive ($2200/m)

Elan Beach Loft (1B1B)

  • More space and closer to beach, but way more ($2500/m)

Wlan Bay Loft (1B1B)

  • More space, a little cheaper but way more ($2400/m)

Also anyone have any idea about how bad the commute will be to Sorrento Valley? I'll be working 8-5 if that helps.

Hard to find reviews and such online, so thought I'd ask; any help is welcome!
