The idea was to create a fantasy ranger connected to a phoenix-like soul companion. I wanted the relationship between the two to feel calm and controlled rather than purely aggressive.

Lately I've been focusing on improving my illustration, character design, and storytelling through fantasy art challenges.

This piece was created for a Reddit user's campaign character. The idea was a mana-infused warlock whose magic is drawn from a small wyrmling companion, so I focused heavily on lighting, colour harmony and a moody fantasy atmosphere.

I went through many iterations to fix proportions, pose balance and the overall silhouette before moving into rendering and final colour grading. This was a really fun challenge and a great learning experience translating a written character idea into a full illustration.

Character belongs to u/stevarisimp, artwork by me. I'm hoping to work on more DnD characters soon!
