My demo is finally live! I'm building a management sim inspired by Game Dev Tycoon and RimWorld, but focused on the pure chaos of IT project management.

Game Title: Project manager SIM

Playable Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4454610/Project_manager_SIM/

Platform: Windows PC

Description: Manage the most unpredictable resource - people - in this WASD tycoon! Plan projects, hire a dream team, assign tasks to specialists, and monitor the budget while upgrading your office. Balance between team burnout, complex contracts, and the wrath of upper management

Here is what is already implemented in the game:

  • Two types of projects: Traditional and support projects - each with their own unique mechanics.
  • Deep hiring system: Employees have personalities, traits, relationships, moods, and efficiency levels, making every NPC feel alive and interesting.
  • Team interaction: Praising, reprimanding, handing out bonuses, and much more.
  • IT industry realities: Burnout, vacations, days off, sick leaves, salary raise requests (and denying them!), as well as competitors headhunting your top specialists!
  • Loyalty system: Your team's attitude towards you directly impacts their efficiency.
  • Reputation and clients: Building relationships with clients and earning global reputation.
  • Relationship with management: Completing monthly tasks from your boss and accumulating loyalty points.
  • Comfort and productivity: Upgrading the office and improving employee workspaces.
  • Random events: A multitude of different events that suddenly impact gameplay.
  • And much more that is hard to list in text.

The demo features 90 in-game days, which should take about two hours to complete, maybe a little more.

Free to Play Status: Demo

Involvement: i am a Solo-dev!

I have attached a link to a feedback form in the game's main menu, and I would be very grateful if you could take a few minutes to fill it out! I’ll also be happy to chat with you in the Steam discussions.

Thanks for your attention!

Remember when you guys broke my game during the playtest month ago? Well, I fixed it (I think). The Project Manager SIM demo is officially live!

Hey everyone!

A bit more than a month ago, I came to this subreddit asking for help testing my solo-developed game, Project Manager SIM. You guys showed up, played the game, filled out feedback forms, and pointed out all the bottlenecks (and yes, clearly explained to me that my boss-waiting mechanic was terrible XD).

Today is a huge milestone for me. I took all your harsh (but very fair!) feedback, went back to work, and I'm super excited to announce that the official Demo is finally out on Steam!

If you played during the playtest, you'll notice a lot of changes and polish based directly on what you guys told me. For those who are new here, you’re stepping into a management tycoon inspired by games like RimWorld, but focused on the pure chaos of IT project management.

Here is what you can expect in the demo (which gives you 90 in-game days, so roughly 2+ hours of gameplay):

  • Manage the chaos: Two types of projects (Traditional and Support) with entirely different mechanics.
  • Deep hiring: Employees aren't just numbers. They have traits, moods, relationships, and efficiency levels.
  • The "fun" stuff: Deal with burnout, sick leave, competitors headhunting your best devs, and of course, denying salary raises.
  • Employee interactions: Praise them, scold them, give them bonuses, or send them on unpaid leave (as someone previously requested XD).
  • Office upgrades: Improve the workspace to keep everyone slightly less miserable.
  • Boss & Client dynamics: Balance your global reputation with clients while trying to keep your boss happy to earn loyalty points.

I really hope you enjoy what I've built so far. As always, your feedback is my main compass. I left the feedback form link right in the main menu, but I'll also be hanging out here in the comments and in discussions at Steam.

Thank you again.

I'm making a game about being a Project Manager, and I've noticed dev subreddits absolutely despise the role. Where does this hate come from?

Hey r/gamedev!

I’m a solo dev currently working on Project Manager SIM on Steam. Naturally, I've been trying to post about my game in various subreddits to get some feedback.

But I've noticed a wild trend: whenever I post in any dev-related subreddit, I get a surprising amount of visceral negativity aimed not at the game itself, but at the concept of the PM role. I get comments like:

  • "You shouldn't joke about this kind of stuff."
  • "Why would you make a game showing how to be a bad boss? (I AM NOT!)"
  • "In the current job market, this actually feels offensive."

It's just a game? It doesn't even lean into heavy, real-world corporate trauma that much. The civilization series allow me to nuke the world! And my game about management, not about torturing people or something...

I do get some genuinely hilarious comments too. Like*"Wow, a horror game where you take on the perspective of the monster, very cool."*

Many people also suggest "interesting" mechanics, like adding a feature to replace half your staff with AI, or an active skill to scream at your boss when he screams at you.

Here is the thing: I actually used to be a project manager in real life. Sure, maybe there are few people out there who hated me, but overall, I always had a great relationship with my team(s). We went through a lot of crunch and chaos, but we always found a way out of tough situations together.

So, my question to you all: where does this baseline, deep-seated hatred for the Project manager role come from in the dev community? Have bad PMs really traumatized that many people, or is it just an internet echo chamber at this point? Am I not allowed to mention my past job in public anymore XD?

No offense, just curious!

Not exactly base-building, but an office & team-building game. The demo of my game "Project Manager SIM" launches tomorrow!

Hey r/BaseBuildingGames!

I’m a solo dev, and tomorrow (May 20) I’m releasing the first public demo for my game, Project Manager SIM.

I know this sub is mostly about surviving harsh alien planets or designing massive automated factories (i love that stuff), but I wanted to share my game here because surviving a chaotic corporate IT department requires very similar skills.

I recently ran a closed playtest and implemented a ton of fixes, but getting fresh eyes on the core loop from players who love management games is incredibly important to me. Instead of a traditional god-view, you control the manager directly with WASD, physically running around the office in top-down perspective to put out fires.

In the demo:

  • Plan projects, assign tasks, and manage unexpected client tickets.
  • Hire your dream team (developers, QA, designers), each with unique personality traits (don't seat toxic people next to each other!).
  • Upgrade your office space.
  • Try to balance team burnout against approaching deadlines.
  • Develop your relationships with clients and the Boss

I’m really looking for feedback on whether the WASD controls feel natural. Would love to hear your thoughts!
