Mirtapazine?

Hey guys! Just a little update, as I’m looking for any new information or people who have had similar experiences.

I was diagnosed with vestibular neuritis (VN) this summer. It was confirmed on July 22nd through caloric testing, which showed a 39% deficit in my right ear. Initially, in June, the doctors thought it was BPPV, but I continued to experience nausea and some dizziness, so I underwent further testing and was eventually diagnosed with VN.

My doctor prescribed Betaserc twice a day for two months and scheduled a follow-up appointment. Yesterday, I had another caloric test, and the deficit had decreased to just 8%, meaning there has been significant improvement in my vestibular function. My doctor said that the remaining nausea and dizziness shouldn’t be caused by the VN anymore.
Since I’m still experiencing symptoms, I was referred for a gastroscopy, but they couldn’t find anything wrong. After that, I was sent for an MRI of my brain and neck to check whether anything in the cervical spine could be contributing to my symptoms. I’ve had the MRI, and I’m waiting for the results next week.

In the meantime, we’ve also discussed a Plan C. If the MRI comes back clear, my doctor has prescribed mirtazapine, an antidepressant, to see if it helps with my symptoms. The plan is to start with half a tablet daily for the first month and then increase to one tablet daily for the second month, as prescribed by my doctor.

I’m wondering if anyone here has been through something similar, especially if you’ve experienced ongoing nausea and dizziness even after your vestibular function improved. Has anyone tried mirtazapine for these kinds of symptoms, and did it help?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks so much! ❤️

Severe nausea

Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone had problems for longer period of nausea? How long have you had it for?

For me it feels like it’s been since the first day I’ve got this vestibular neurit disorder. It has gradually got better (the intensity) but it’s still there. I feel it throughout the day, and I got some motion sickness tablets which I’m using when I really feel bad, I haven’t felt bad bad in like a month now, so I’m considering taking them again but at the same time I feel it’s better for my system to fight on its own + the doctor said not to take too much of motion sickness tablets because they can suppress rehab for vestibular neuritis? I overall do feel better but it’s this nausea that’s been really a pain in the ass..

Anyone with similar experience?
Thanks for help

Any help pls

Hey guys, I’m looking for some advice.

I’ve been having tooth pain that started in late June. At first, I thought maybe my sinuses were inflamed because I also had a cold at the time. I’ve never had any sinus problems before, but I was experiencing pressure in my head around my sinuses, especially around my nose and above my upper teeth. The pressure was only on the left side, which is why I thought it might be related to my sinuses.

At the same time, I started having pain in my upper gum around my teeth. Eventually, the pain became more focused on one specific tooth. At one point, it was so painful that I couldn’t even touch the tooth, and it felt like the tooth was loose or wobbly.
I went to my dentist twice, and she said that everything looked normal. She even took X-rays but couldn’t see anything wrong. She thought it could possibly have been related to the flu or some kind of infection.

The pain I was experiencing was a severe, pulsating, almost shredding/throbbing pain that would last around 10–15 minutes and then become less intense. I also had pain in that specific tooth whenever I drank water or anything else, whether it was cold or warm. It sometimes felt as if the sensation went straight through the tooth, almost like there was a hole in it and the nerve was exposed.

Thankfully, I don’t have that severe pain anymore. However, I still feel like the tooth doesn’t quite feel right or like it isn’t sitting properly. I also sometimes feel a slight pulsating sensation in the tooth, although it’s nowhere near the same level of pain I had about 1.5 months ago.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be or what kind of help I should seek? I’m a bit worried since the X-rays didn’t show anything abnormal.

Nausea from VN

Hi guys! I was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks for dealing with nausea caused by vestibular neuritis.

I developed this in June (although initially they thought it was BPPV), and I’ve been nauseated ever since. I was finally diagnosed with VN in late July and was prescribed some medication, including Dramamine (the medication used for motion sickness). It does help, but I’ve read and heard from a few doctors that vestibular suppressants can potentially interfere with vestibular rehabilitation, so I’m trying to avoid taking it unless I really, really need it.

The nausea has improved slightly since June, but it’s still there. I’m wondering if anyone knows of any natural ways to reduce or calm it down, other than things like eating better/healthier.

I was also prescribed Betaserc for the dizziness. I’m not actually very dizzy and I’ve never really had the classic room spinning sensation. It’s more of a constant feeling of instability/unsteadiness. My doctors think that if the Betaserc helps with the dizziness, the nausea may improve as well.

I never actually vomit, it’s more like a nauseous feeling that comes and goes, sometimes almost like it rises up into my throat.

Has anyone experienced something similar with vestibular neuritis? And if so, have you found anything that helps with the nausea? I’d really appreciate any tips or experiences!

Similar experience?

Hi, I’m a 25-year-old man who, about two months ago, suddenly started feeling nauseous and had a sensation that I was about to faint. I became slightly dizzy on my way home on the train, and since then I haven’t felt like myself.

The dizziness has improved a lot. At first, my doctor suspected BPPV (crystals in the ear), but the nausea sensation has remained. I was prescribed medication for stomach acid, such as omeprazole, but it didn’t help.

Eventually, I went to a private specialist and was diagnosed with vestibular neuritis in my right ear, with around 39% loss of function. I was prescribed Betaserc (to help with vertigo) for 8 weeks, and also Dramamine tablets to take when needed, especially during stronger episodes of nausea or motion sickness-like feelings.

The doctor told me that it should improve and that there is a possibility of recovery because she feels I am already on the path toward improvement.

I’m wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience. I mostly see negative stories online, and I would really like to hear some positive experiences. I’m starting to worry that I may never feel completely normal again, but I’m hoping that it’s possible to become mostly symptom-free and return to normal activities — like going to the gym, exercising, and doing things without constantly feeling nauseous.

The nausea is by far my biggest problem. I’m also considering having my stomach checked with a camera (gastroscopy), because I’m wondering if the nausea might not actually be related to the vestibular neuritis and could just be a coincidence.
Thank you for any experiences, advice, or support you can share.

Bppv or?

Hello guys! I’ve kind of been diagnosed with BPPV. The day before I went to the emergency department, I did the Epley maneuver because my colleague suggested that it might be BPPV. By the time I went in the next day, they couldn’t detect any nystagmus because I was already feeling a lot better.

Now it’s been about 3–4 weeks, and I feel mostly like myself again. However, I still get lightheaded whenever I move my head left, right, up, or down. The biggest problem is the nausea. Even though I’m not really getting the intense room-spinning dizziness anymore, the nausea is absolutely killing me.

The doctor told me to keep doing the Epley maneuver, but I don’t know which side I should be doing it on, left or right. My left ear seems to feel a bit worse, so I feel like that’s probably the affected side.

I honestly don’t know how to continue or what to do next. Has anyone experienced something similar or have any suggestions

Thanks for the help!
