Thought on Retro Handheld for 13 and 15 Years Old?

My cousin is having his Bar Mitzvah soon, and I want to buy him a retro handheld. He has a sister who had her Bat Mitzvah three years ago, and I didn't buy her anything at the time, so I'll buy her a handheld or fairness.

I'm thinking about something in the $50–70 range, like the RG35XX SP, the Miyoo Flip, or Mini, but I'm open to other suggestions.

My question is whether this is a good idea in the first place.

I have an RG35XX SP myself, and I'm very pleased with it, but I also remember the hassle of setting it up and troubleshooting problems. I'm willing to do the initial setup for them, but a handhelds this is still a bit of a project, and I'm not sure they'll connect with that.

I want them to experience some retro gaming, like the Gen 1~3 Pokemon games, Mario, Sonic, Zelda, and so on, but I don't know if a dedicated handheld is the best way to do that.

My brother suggested buying them a controller they could connect to their phones, and then helping them set up emulators. However, I know their schools ban phones during school hours, including recess, so they wouldn't get as much use out of a controller. Also, a controller has to compete with their regular mobile games, while a separate handheld creates a different mindset.

What are your thoughts? Have you ever gifted a retro handheld to a teenager? How did it go? What do you think I should do?

Mina the Hollower Is Now on PortMaster!

As the title says, Mina the Hollower is now on PortMaster, so if you want to play it on your modern/retro handheld and you have a Steam or GOG copy, you can set it up in 20 minutes, half of which is just waiting for the installation.

I was about to wait until I bought a Switch 2 to play Mina, but I've been kind of down and a little sick this week, and the moment I saw it was released on PortMaster, it immediately lifted my spirits, and I bought it as a treat for myself. I grabbed my RG35XX SP, installed it, and I can't wait to play it. I'll also try playing with shaders to capture the real GBC experience. Wish me luck!

תגובה לטענה שישראל היא "pedo rapist heaven"

היה פה פוסט שנמחק, שבו מישהו שאל איך להגיב לתגובה הבאה:
"Ah yes, pedo rapist heaven really is the best place to be as a woman"

Let’s establish a few basic facts:

  1. Israel has extradition agreements with around 55 countries in cases where the alleged conduct is also considered a crime under Israeli law (source).
  2. Rape, and other forms of prohibited sexual penetration, including offenses involving minors, are illegal under Israeli law and are actively prosecuted.
  3. Jewish immigration applicants are generally required to undergo a criminal background check as part of the aliyah process.

Israel has extradited individuals accused or convicted of sexual offenses. The most well-known example is the Malka Leifer affair. The controversy surrounding that case existed precisely because many Israelis criticized how long the extradition process took. In the end, however, she was extradited to Australia, stood trial, and was convicted.

There are also many less-publicized cases that directly contradict the claim that Israel has a policy of protecting sex offenders. For example, Elad Gabar was extradited from Israel to the United States to face charges related to child sexual exploitation and abuse, and was later sentenced in the US to 30 years in federal prison. Another example is Asher Karnazar, who was extradited from Israel to the United States after being accused of sexual offenses against minors.

And these are only a few examples. There are many additional cases in which Israel extradited suspects, including suspects accused of sexual crimes.

I fully acknowledge that the Israeli justice system can be slow, bureaucratic, and imperfect, like many legal systems around the world. There are valid criticisms to be made regarding inefficiency, delays, and failures in handling certain extradition cases.

But there is a major difference between criticizing flaws in a legal system and claiming that Israel, as a matter of policy, seeks to import, shelter, or protect pedophiles.

[Edit: Removed mentions of sodomy, as I misunderstood the meaning of that term in English and the cultural nuance.]
