How to lose weight if you are not supposed to go under 1200 calories??

I’m frustrated with the way the app shames me if I eat under 1200 calories. I’m a short woman who doesn’t get much exercise. I gained almost 15lbs in the past year and want to get back to my normal weight. Fitbit says I burn an average of 1400 calories a day on days I walk/jog. Less on sedentary days. MFP has 1400 as my daily goal and refuses to even give me an estimate of my weight loss if I only eat 1199 calories in a day. It’s been a few weeks of careful tracking & staying between 1400 and 1200. The scale has not budged. Am I just wasting my time with all this?

Grover’s or Shingles? Afraid to use the steroid meds the derm gave me.

I’ve had this rash off and on for 15 years (47F). It gets a lot worse than this when I’m stressed or sick. It’s crazy itchy, burns a little sometimes but not horribly. Starts out as smooth but eventually develops scabs. No pus. Hydrocortisone and Allegra both help a little, but not much.

Dermatologist said it’s either Grover’s disease or Shingles. Did a biopsy and gave me a Sernivo spray to use 2x a day for a month. The biopsy results will take about a week.

He’s leaning towards Grover’s since it’s only mildly painful. But Grover’s is usually on both sides, and my rash only ever affects my right torso. Sometimes it spreads to my hip, along my back. Sometimes it spreads all the way to my bellybutton, but never crosses over to the left side. Also, I don’t sweat much at all and heat doesn’t seem to make it worse like Grover’s.

I realize that in a week I should at least know if it’s Shingles, but in the meantime it still itches a lot and burns a little. The steroid spray might help a lot! But if it’s Shingles, the spray would do more harm than good. Should I risk it?

Meal planner tips?

New to MFP and I’m still feeling it out. Just wanted to track calories but got sucked in by the meal planning features Decided to try out the Meal Planner option for seven days, and while it’s a little clunky, it’s light years ahead of any other one I’ve tried. And finding a good meal planning app has been a longtime dream deferred. This one is especially good at recommending meals based on what I like & avoiding what I DON’T like. There is a lot of variety, and much of the recipes actually look appetizing!

I am struggling with a few things - can’t figure out how to move a meal from one day to another, can’t seem to edit the ingredients in the recipe during the planning phase (I get that I can do that during the logging, but editing the recipe & grocery list Before cooking & eating would be more helpful), and I don’t see away to add my own snacks or recipes into the weekly plan. Are any of these things options I’m just not seeing?

For those of you who use the planner regularly, are there any tips or tricks you have discovered that might make using the planner better? Ways to maximize what you get out of it or ways to streamline your cooking?

Online meeting in the evenings?

There are no in person meetings for Family & Friends in my area (I live in a large US city) and only one meeting listed online. It’s tagged as National, not local, which is fine. But it’s on a night I have a class. Is there really only one online meeting in all of the United States?

I have found several in person AlAnon meetings, and one NarcAnon F&F meeting in my area, but I really don’t believe that I am powerless over alcohol or drugs and that is such a barrier for my buy in. But I’m desperate, so if I have to pretend to trust Jesus to solve everything in order to help my son, that’s what I will do.

Or maybe I should go to a regular SMART meeting and try to extrapolate my role from that? There is one meeting in English that is not primarily for Military. If I sit quietly maybe no one will mind?

Count down number of guesses?

Basic number guessing game. User has 6 guesses to find a number between 1 & 20. Works great until I try to add a print message that tells the user how many guesses they have left.

You can see where I added code to the first if statement attempting to achieve this (if it worked I would add to the first elif statement as well).

For some reason, my results if the guess is too low always say “You have 5 guesses left.” No reduction in number after each attempt.

What am I doing wrong?

from random import *

secret_number = randint(1, 20)

print("I am thinking of a number between 1 and 20.")

for guess_attempt in range(1, 7):
guess = int(input("Make a guess: "))
total_allowed = 6
guess_attempts = total_allowed
if guess < secret_number:
guess_attempts = total_allowed - 1
print("Your guess is too low.")
print("You have " + str(guess_attempts) + " guesses left.")
elif guess > secret_number:
print("Your guess is too high.")
elif guess == secret_number:
print("You guessed my number in " + str(guess_attempt) + " guesses")
break

Walking indoors (not a treadmill)?

Second summer in Miami Beach, and I’m remembering how badly the heat impacted my daily 2 - 4 mile walks last year. Is there anywhere (a gym or rec center) with an indoor track that I can use? Edit: Treadmills are just practice for time spent in hell, I’d rather skip them for now.

Who washes the sheets & towels?

First time we have had sitters and we learned a lot. Overall it was a good experience. One small issue we have is how exhausting it was to change the sheets on multiple beds after returning home because it was unclear which room they slept in. After a long day of travel, we just wanted to go to bed and deal with laundry the next day.

What are your thoughts on asking sitters to change the sheets before they leave? We were primarily focused on cat care and the only cleaning we requested was that they “tidy up” after themselves.

Is this normal/safe/allowed? I don’t mind providing ID, but feel weird about providing my credit card to them. They have several good reviews, so I’m trying to tell myself not to get too paranoid. But it feels like a scam. Isn’t the whole point of using AirB&B the security of using their platform to pay and handle any surcharges that come up?
