Who is selling good watermelon? And what does it cost?

Who is selling good watermelon? And what does it cost?

I’m experiencing yet another boring watermelon. No sweetness. Is it the time of year? The season? Or is there somewhere that is getting the good watermelon that I’m not?

New Yorker take on The Baldwins reality show

This piece from a year ago just randomly popped up in my F’book feed. I hadn’t seen it! The graphic is great.

A huge number of top comments were people saying they loved the show. A lot of them seemed to just like seeing the kids. I think there’s a huge portion of society that you show them a kid with big eyes and a dimple or whatever and their brain actually melts. It explains a lot.

Easy Farm/Fam friendly concerts like at old Krueger’s farm?

What was great about the old farm concerts at Krueger’s was the kids could roam a bit and the food and drink options were awesome and it was so chill. Topaz is ticketed events only now and the last one I went to, the lines for food/drink were intense. And I can’t buy four tickets just so the kids can run around. Anyway, what’s similar vibe around town? We’ve got the Parks Concert series on our radar but where else should we look? Doesn’t need to be free but affordable.

ETA: for those of you suggesting Topaz...the cheapest ticket on their current summer line-up is $31.35. That's a whole different scene. The old Kruger farm awesomeness was $10/car to the farm. You'd picnic and wander the fields and they had hay rides and you could check out the animals and buy a basket of berries for the kids and roasted corn hot off the roaster for like $2 an ear. It was a super fun deal. Topaz bought Krueger Farm and they had a sorta-like-that for awhile but aren't doing that anymore. Anyone doing anything like that now?

I just finished a week hosting my MAGA mom in my home. I haven’t been to see her in person for a couple years after our last visit in which she calmly and logically explained why it made sense for her to leave her estate to her MAGA youngest, favorite, son. Anyway, there’s obviously a lot more to this story but it’s just so hard for me to play the daughter role and the sister role to these people who seemingly have no empathy. It’s endless biting my tongue and when we do get into some issue, my mom wants to call me a socialist* because, for example, I think food insecurity could be 100% eradicated if we stop bailing out billionaires and corporations. It was rough and I’ve just dropped her at the airport and I’m trying to calm myself and stop ruminating and arguing with her in my head. I feel like I want to barf out all of these terrible feelings and like it would take all day. Just naming that and hoping it will help calm my system a bit. I will never reach her. She is such sandpaper to my entire sense of self. I have a wonderful community of smart, compassionate people who I can turn to. Trying to reset my system. Thought maybe a few people, who feel alienated from their parents for any reason, might be able to relate. I think the world has to have just as many people like us as people like her. Otherwise our species would die out.

*Socialist is like her biggest, and meanest thing she can think to say to or about anyone. So.
