Studying Mandarin for a year at Sichuan University. What can I expect?

I'll be graduating college soon and next year I decided with my family that I'd live in China for a year and study Mandarin at Sichuan University. I'm Chinese American and I can understand Chinese from speaking it at home with family, so I mostly want to improve my writing/reading skills and experience life in a different enviroment. How is Sichuan University for international students? Are there any Asian American students? Is it easy to make friends?

I've also been to Chengdu a couple times and my grandparents live in a retirement home nearby.

What if China rebranded after Mao's death? - Socialist Technate of China

In the early 90s, amid the backlash of the Tiananmen Square massacre and the fall of the USSR, China embarks on a national campaign to move away from communism. "Communism" is removed from the constitution in favor of "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics" and all communist symbology is phased out.

Following Dengist thought, they rebrand from a communist state to a "socialist technate," closely resembling Singapore under Lee Kuan Yew with an additional emphasis on "social harmony" like in OTL. They remain a one party state with similar rates of economic growth, but unlike OTL, there is less censorship of the media, no great firewall, and stronger rule of law.

In 2023, leaders from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao meet in Nanjing to officially form the Sino Economic Cooperation Union (SECU) with Singapore as an observer. Hong Kong, and Macao remain politically independent as autonomous regions. Taiwan stays as an independent state with strong economic and cultural ties to the mainland.

North Korea, recieving less support from the Chinese after the fall of the USSR, is also forced to enact economic reforms. In 2005, they adopt a market socialist economy under the Kim regime.

▲ 49 r/RenPy

I was struggling to learn Renpy using YouTube tutorials and what helped was trying to rebuild an existing VN from scratch. I used Milk Inside a Bag of Milk for my example and I recommend that one since it's short and uses some pretty unique effects. If you're struggling to learn and more of a visual learner like me, I suggest you try to imitate a VN first.

I'm studying at a university in Chengdu next year, mostly to experience a different place away from the US. Are there any things you'd suggest before I go? Anything I should prepare? I'm Chinese American and my grandparents will be at a retirement home in the same city. I'm quite excited.
