Sirdar’s new Harry Potter yarn

Anyone else disgusted by Sirdar’s new line of Harry Potter scarf yarns?

So okay obviously the transphobia + paying to fund the desecration of human rights across the uk are the worst part.

BUT the yarn is self striping, intended for scarves, and the advertising line is something like ‘no knitting skills required’!! Which is absolutely bonkers because like. It’s yarn. It’s specifically advertised as knitting yarn, even. There is going to be some amount of knitting skill required???

But anyways yea there goes any chance of me paying for sirdar yarn again as long as i live.

Fuck jkr and all love to trans people who have been hurt by her or anyone trying to use a public bathroom anywhere in the uk💕

Breaking in white docs while keeping them in good condition

Hi all! Long time doc-wearer, first time poster

I have recently (slightly impulsively bought) the above docs, because I saw them on sale for half off the day after I got engaged. I’ve tried this style on in a different colour and fell in love, but just couldn’t justify the cost at the time.

I love docs, and have 2 pairs on that I wear regularly (classic black 16 hole boots + a pair of the low cut shoe style)

My hope is to wear these for any/all wedding related activities, and have them worn in and comfortable for my wedding (no date set, but at least a year)

I would like to keep them as close to spotless as possible - creasing is fine, scuffing and staining is not - and was wondering if anyone who owns similar shoes has tips for keeping them white. I’ve also bought the shoe care kit straight from the dm website and plan to utilise that, but basically I’m wondering if anyone has tips for breaking in shoes and ensuring they’re comfortable for all-day wear, without said shoes looking like they’ve been worn

Many thanks!

Has Anyone Else Been Making* their own Eink Friendly Book Covers

*and by making I 100% mean tracing for my own private + non-commercial use. These cover artists are very talented and I’m certainly not claiming to do what they can.

I like finding the coolest cover edition of a given book for my epubs when I can, but with the small screen size + lack of colour they’ve not been turning out quite as nice on my x4

However, by uploading the cover to a 450 x 800p canvas on procreate and tracing over it, I’ve been able to make some some covers that show up well on eink, and have somewhat of a personal touch.

I converted the resulting pngs using the online screensaver converter and then added them to my epubs using calibre. It took some trial + effort and it’s definitely more work than just using a stock cover or none at all.

Jailbreak of 2012 Paperwhite?

hi all!

i’ve scoured this sub and believe I have what I need, but wanted to ask the experts just in case I missed something

i bought a 2nd hand paperwhite 2012 (so, a depreciated model) for €13 inc postage with the intention of sideloading my own drm free book collection through calibre. Selfishly, I’m hoping to convert my physical book loving partner to e-reading with a bribe of every fire & ice novel in his pocket!

I’m also hoping to (attempt) to jailbreak the device for him so he can set custom screensavers etc, and have collected just about every reference I could find to jailbreaking this model from the sub, /however/ the last thing I want to do is brick this device by accident, so any advice or tips & tricka that you’d offer someone trying this for the first time would be very appreciated, thanks!

Passports Getting Processed Well Fast

just a headsup for anyone planning a trip soon to check your passport has 6+ months left on the expiry (for travel within europe - dif countries have dif rules) and if in need, apply for that renewal asap!

I sent mine in about 4pm on Friday and was impressed to receive my shiny new passport through the letter box this morning (that’s about 1 working day turnaround)

Process was dead simple + I was even able to use a selfie from my phone instead of paying for professional ones

First Colour Work Socks!

finished just in time to wear to an irish rugby match (that we won!) safe to say they feel very lucky to me now.

pattern is from stone knits book, which was really helpful and easy to follow

yarn is a mix of west yorkshire spinners (the cream) and a malabrigo (green) that I had stashed & worked out so well
