How do startups integrate Sony camera sensors into their products? Where should a first-time hardware founder start?

Hi everyone,

I'm a first-time hardware founder from India, and I'm trying to understand how companies actually build custom camera systems rather than just buying off-the-shelf cameras.

One thing that confuses me is this: people often say a phone uses a "Sony camera," but I know that's not the whole story. From what I've read, Sony usually supplies the image sensor, while other companies make the lens, camera module, ISP, autofocus system, etc. The final product is an integration of many different components.

My questions are:

If a startup wants to build a custom camera system, who do they contact first?

Should they approach Sony directly, or are there camera module manufacturers/system integrators who are a better starting point?

How do smartphone manufacturers and other hardware companies begin this process?

What kind of documentation, evaluation kits, or engineering support do sensor companies typically provide?

If you're a new founder with no previous hardware products, will companies like Sony even talk to you, or do they expect you to work through distributors or design partners first?

I want to understand the engineering and supply-chain workflow. If you've worked in smartphone cameras, embedded vision, robotics, or camera module development, I'd really appreciate hearing how this process works in the real world.

Thanks in advance!

Is there any founder who has raised capital through Startup India Seed Fund Scheme?

I would love to understand the entire process of getting grants through Startup India Seed Fund. Your inputs are highly appreciated in this regard.

I am asking here because experience teaches a lot than the jargons written as rules anywhere.

Any profitable D2C founders here willing to share guidance?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently building a D2C brand and I'm looking to learn from founders who have successfully built profitable businesses.

There is a lot of content online about growth and scaling, but I'd love to hear real-world experiences from people who have actually done it.

Some questions I'd love your perspective on:

How did you acquire your first 100 customers?

Which marketing channels generated the highest ROI for you (Meta Ads, Google Ads, influencers, SEO, WhatsApp, email, etc.)?

What were your revenue milestones, and how long did it take to reach them?

What metrics did you focus on in the early stages?

How did you know when it was time to scale?

What mistakes did you make while scaling that you'd avoid today?

How did you build and manage your team as the business grew?

What systems, processes, and software became essential as revenue increased?

How do you think about cash flow, inventory management, and profitability?

If you were starting a D2C brand from scratch in 2026, what would your playbook look like?

I'm especially interested in hearing from founders who have built sustainable, profitable businesses—not just high-growth brands that relied heavily on external funding.

Even if you're doing ₹1 Cr, ₹10 Cr, or ₹100 Cr+ in annual revenue, I'd love to hear the biggest lessons you've learned along the way.

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience. I'm sure many aspiring founders here will benefit from your insights as well

How to pitch a prime rural property to banks for a new branch opening? (West Bengal)

Hello everyone,

I own a large, vacant commercial plot situated right on the main road in a high-potential rural/semi-urban pocket of West Bengal. Currently, this pocket is completely underserved—there is no bank branch within a 5 km radius, forcing thousands of locals to travel long distances for basic banking, ATM access, and government scheme payouts.

Since the land is completely vacant, I am looking to offer a 'Built-to-Suit' (BTS) lease arrangement. I am fully prepared to self-fund and construct the entire branch building on the ground floor strictly according to a bank.

I would love some guidance from bankers, expansion managers, or commercial real estate experts on how to make this happen:

  1. The Evaluation Process: How do public sector (SBI, PNB, UCO, etc.) or private banks (HDFC, ICICI, Axis) evaluate external property pitches in rural zones? Do they rely purely on internal expansion data, or do they actively review cold pitches?
  2. Reaching the Right Desk: What is the most effective way to bypass lower-level staff and get a professional proposal in front of the Regional Manager (RM) or Zonal Infrastructure/Premises team?
  3. The Rental Valuation: For a newly constructed, custom-built structure in rural West Bengal, how do banks evaluate the commercial rent? Is it heavily capped by local circle rates, or does the bank cover a premium or higher per-square-foot rate considering the custom RCC strong-room construction costs incurred by the landlord?

Any advice on navigating the tendering process or tips from someone who has successfully leased a property to a nationalized bank would be incredibly helpful!

Thanks in advance.
