opinion on my doomed ankle

The title genuinely speaks for itself. I’ll get straight to the point here. 1 bad fall from standing and falling into a weird pistol squat caused:

  • Full AITFL tear
  • Sprained PITFL + syndesmosis
  • Partial ATFL tear
  • Sprained CFL + PTFL
  • Sprained deltoid ligaments
  • Tibial bone bruise
  • Possible peroneus brevis split tear/tendinosis
  • Large joint effusion on MRI

First 4 days I was bedridden, elevated it 24/7, and couldn’t walk. Saw sports med on day 4, got put in a boot (only wore it in public, kept elevated and stayed off it at home) and used crutches until April 30. Started walking in the boot without crutches May 1-3, then fully out of the boot after that. Tried an Air Stirrup brace later for 1 day but it arrived too late and didn’t really help.

Walking is normal now at 6 weeks post-injury. Been doing PT since May 4 (before that we only worked on hips/quads/glutes while I was immobilized). I can go upstairs normally but downstairs still isn’t comfortable. We’ve started weighted rehab exercises too.

Sports med doctor said my progress for 6 weeks is actually really good, but referred me to an ortho surgeon to better determine whether surgery is needed. He currently thinks it may still be manageable conservatively because of how well it’s healing.

Wanted thoughts from anyone who’s had similar injuries, whether surgery ended up necessary, and realistically how long full return to high-level training took. I really hope i can get back to working on my jumps (doubles, starting triples) and not fall back too much which i know may sound a little unrealistic but i honestly don’t care and will be as delulu as possible to keep myself sane 🫶

Thoughts on my severe injury

Figure skater here. Wrecked my ankle from one bad fall on April 10. MRI showed severe high and low ankle sprains with possible tendon involvement:

  • Full AITFL tear
  • Sprained PITFL + syndesmosis
  • Partial ATFL tear
  • Sprained CFL + PTFL
  • Sprained deltoid ligaments
  • Tibial bone bruise
  • Possible peroneus brevis split tear/tendinosis
  • Large joint effusion on MRI

First 4 days I was basically bedridden, elevated it constantly, and couldn’t walk. Saw sports med on day 4, got put in a boot (only wore it in public kept elevated and off it at home) and used crutches until April 30. Started walking in the boot without crutches May 1-3, then fully out of the boot after that. Tried an Air Stirrup brace later but it arrived too late and didn’t really help.

Walking is normal now at 6 weeks post-injury. Been doing PT since May 4 (before that we only worked on hips/quads/glutes while I was immobilized). I can go upstairs normally but downstairs still isn’t comfortable. We’ve started weighted rehab exercises and it’s been going amazingly. My ankle is 70% as normal as my other one but the main problem is dorsiflexion knee over toe is blocked. But no pain resting or really even when doing PT/excercise

Sports med doctor said my progress for 6 weeks is actually really good, but referred me to an ortho surgeon to better determine whether surgery is needed. He currently thinks it may still be manageable conservatively because of how well it’s healing.

Wanted thoughts from anyone who’s had similar injuries, whether surgery ended up necessary, and realistically how long yall think it’ll take me for a full return to high-level training.

Ankle Progression

So i sprained my ankle in a weird way on the ice (figure skater) from just falling straight down and slamming onto it in a pistol position. When it happened i couldn’t even walk or put weight. Saw the dr, was in a walking boot only in public for 2 weeks (kept it elevated at home didn’t leave bed) and then stopped wearing the boot and crutches. 5 weeks later, i can walk (still very slightly stiff , and verryyyyy minimal fluid/swelling visible) and started fully strength training it in PT. about 2 weeks ago, my last dr visit when he pressed down into my talus it hurt so i got an MRI to see if i have a OCL of the talus. That pain is gone now oh boy did they find even worse stuff. Heres what they found.

MRI results in simple words:

  • Full tear of one high ankle ligament
  • Moderate sprains of the other high ankle ligaments
  • Partial tear/moderate-high sprain of the ATFL outside ankle ligament
  • Moderate sprain of the CFL outside ankle ligament
  • Mild sprain of the PTFL outside ankle ligament
  • Moderate sprain of the deltoid ligament on the inside of the ankle
  • Bone bruise at the bottom of the tibia/ankle joint
  • Possible peroneus brevis tendon split tear or tendon irritation
  • Large amount of fluid/swelling inside the ankle joint

so basically to summarize i have 1 complete tear, 7 sprains, and a bone bruise. My doctor was flabbergasted at how well i was progressing when i saw him yesterday with no pain except some stiffness after workouts and stuff and the main issue is dorsiflexion bending knee over toes (very blocked). He thinks i wont need surgery and it can be managed conservatively but he doesn’t know how long and when i can return to sport so that sucks. He’s having me see an athletic institute of foot and ankle one of the best places in the country to get a second opinion, but idk when i’ll even get that appt and im so scared that ill need surgery i just want to skate and jump again. Any opinions r appreciated

Advice On Taking SAT Soon With Weakness In Math

So let’s say hypothetically you are doing online school and your entire sophomore year you decide to google all the assignments in geo, and last year in alg 1 you were good until you got to polynomials and struggled a lot. If i take the SAT Jr year fall with attempts all the way through senior yr winter, and i learn the second half of alg 1 and geometry course myself as fast as i can now before i start prep this summer will i be fine

I know i f‘d up, i had a lot of health issues this year and im just starting to get back on track. I feel like my life is over. If it helps i have a 3.7 UW gpa taking no honors or aps (will start Jr year maybe taking around 3). Planning to stay online next 2 years since im doing online school for a sport.

Advice and input on sprained ankle

Hey everyone, i wanted some advice and overall opinion on my sprain. For context i am a teen (f) figure skater, and on april 10, i sprained my ankle while on the ice skating forward. I got caught in a small rut in the ice and fell in a squat position slamming down on my ankle. I couldnt walk or put weight on it at all from the moment it happened, but 4 days later i was able to for just a few seconds, and placed in a boot to wear when walking. Leading into two weeks and a half, my progress was up and down. Sometimes i could stand for a few seconds, but still could not walk. April 29, week 3, i was able to start taking small limpy steps around my house still in a boot. May 1st, i went out in my boot without crutches walking with a limp for the first time. Wore boot till may 3rd, then took it off and started waking normally in shoes. Flash forward to now, week 5 from my initial sprain, I am able to walk and have spent the last 2 weeks started to rehab it and strength train at PT and walk fully. I got an MRI 3 days ago to check if i have a osteochondral lesion of the talus bc my doctors visits (April 14, April 30), my doctor saw immense progress betweeb the 2 visits 4 days after the injury vs 20 and most movement was restored except dorsiflexion, and back then when he pressed down on the talus it hurt deeply. Now it doesn’t hurt, but if i try to bend it past a certain point i feel pain in my outer ankle bone weirdly and feel something blocking the middle. He told me to get an air stirrup cast on april 30, and its arriving tomorrow so it’s kind of bad i spent a long time just walking without the stirrup but felt fine. Now what i still can’t do is fully bend it, do calf raises, and jump. I have no idea if this is good progress or bad progress. Any advice or feedback or opinions are appreciated I just want to skate and jump again soon. Hopefully looking for a may 26 return and back to jumping 2 weeks after that if there’s no lesion or other stuff.

Hey everyone, in honor of the season ending and all, i wanted to make a post about this because no one takes this seriously and i wish so bad more people would talk about it.

RED-S.

RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport) is a syndrome caused by not enough nutrients caused by low calorie intake, and after being diagnosed with this and being in recovery it’s made me realize how it is one of the most prevalent things in the sport yet the least talked about. If i could have one wish and use it on anything like land all my triples, get better goe, etc etc, i would literally spend it on blasting red-s awareness on billboards and every single screen you see. I will not name names but in the area i skate it, there are many many manyyy international and national level people competing in all disciplines and i can tell you right now almost half of them have red-s. The reason this is so important is because it causes almost every stress fracture and takes so much time to heal because youre already malnourished.

In this sport where there is such a toxic culture around eating habits and calories (literally even spoken about by alysa liu), skating is one of the sports that burns THE MOST calories.

The worst part is you can get RED-S at any age and level. It doesn’t matter if you are doing triple triples and skating 5 hours a day, or doing singles and skating 4 hours a week. It can happen to anyone and it’s almost always caught AFTER injuries and constant fatigue and other issues happen. If you skate even recreationally PLEASE fuel enough and MAKE SURE you are eating enough. I wish everyone in this sport knew more about red-s.

hey everyone, i know this sub obviously isnt for medical advice but i was wondering if anyone has dealt with osteitis pubis caused by hockey. I’m going through it right now and it’s the worst experience of my life. As a figure skater there is basically no one that has this and every person that does plays hockey

any advice on healing or anything is appreciated
