4 months later… first deer with my bow

Four months ago I posted here after buying my first compound bow. I had no idea if I’d actually be able to take a deer with it.

Today, I did.

First deer. First bow kill. Four months of shooting, learning, missing, improving, and trying to figure this whole thing out.

Huge thanks to everyone who gave me advice on that first post. You guys probably don't realize it, but some of those comments stuck with me.

Still a beginner, still a lot to learn, but damn, what a way to start.

Joined the compound bow club last month

I picked up my very first compound bow last month: a Hoyt Enduro Premium Package, Easton Axis SPT 5mm arrows, and a Spot Hogg Wiseguy release. I've already started shooting with it and I'm absolutely hooked!

I've done a ton of research, watched way too many videos, and finally decided it was time.

What do you wish someone had told you when you got your first bow?

Small win today: My first decent group at 20 yards

After a few adjustments to my sight, this is the first time I've managed to group my arrows relatively close to the spot I'm aiming at from 20 yards. I'm practicing on the land where I'll be (hopefully) hunting someday, and you can even see Montreal in the background.

I can't describe how happy this makes me. This sport is truly therapeutic for me. I've been practicing 2–3 times a week and I'm finally starting to see some progress.

Still a long way to go, but I'm enjoying every minute of the journey.

Just picked up my very first compound bow: a Hoyt Enduro Premium Package, Easton Axis SPT 5mm arrows, and a Spot Hogg Wiseguy release. I'm ridiculously excited to start shooting.

Looking forward to spending some time at the range and eventually taking it into the woods.
