I was chilling walking and enjoying myself when all of a sudden I saw an alive mouse and I was shocked and I had to remove it. So, I remembered I have a slingshot so I got it out and used my 9mm clay pellets (yes I know its bad at killing but it was the only thing I had). so, I shot the thing and the pellet penetrated and killed it! It is now disposed! I guess OTT slingshots are better at killing than TTF!

How is hunting in Nunavut for non Inuit residents?

I’ve been reading some stuff online and it seems quite complex for non Inuit residents, can anyone provide more details? Can you hunt muskox or caribou or grizzlies etc? What’s the process? I love hunting and considering a job up north so it would be very helpful to know this information, thanks!

Scope options for Alberta | magnification? | price point?

Hello,

I am looking for a scope for a 270win that will eventually be moved to a 6.5creed.

I hunt in areas with dense shrubs, the occasional pushed/driven deer, and a lot of ag land edges.

I'd estimate that I shoot anywhere between 50 or 80yards out to 300-400yards.

I have been looking at the Leupold vx-3hd and vx-4hd lines. I like the sound of the CDS-ZL (that I would wait to use on my personal rifle when I get it).

My big questions are:

Is 3.5 or 4 kinda high for a low-end?

Is the extra $400-$600 worth the step from the 3hd to 4hd? (I've got 20/15 vision with my glasses if that makes any difference)

While I am of the "buy once, cry once" philosophy, I also know there is a point of diminishing return.

When do you get to "thats a really solid scope" and whats the point of "Oh, this is very slightly better"?

Thanks folks!

Out of Province Hunting Opportunities.

Ontario hunter here that hunts our big 3 (White Tail, Black Bear & Moose) every year. I'm wanting to try a new hunting experience, whether that be new terrain, new game or both.

I know that most (all?) non-resident hunters require a guide outfitter or resident hunter to hunt in another province, just wondering if there were any exceptions.

Do any provinces allow for out of Province hunters to buy OTC tags or enter draws?

Savage axis w/accu trigger - 6.5 creed?

I can borrow my FiL's 270Win Xpr, used it last year to take a whitetail.

I've been tossing around the idea in my head of where to start, what to get etc... I have a CZ457 in 22lr, that's my practice and small game rifle.

I saw on an auction site, a Savage axis (I think maybe the II?) 22" stainless with a scope. Now if it goes for like $400-$450 after buyer premium and all, is it worth it?

My other path I could take, (already checked with him if I could do this). Buy a decent scope around the $1k mark, put that on the 270Win for awhile, and then upgrade to a Tikka in a few years?

Spypoint (or any brand) trail camera with built in SIM that I can remotely (phone) disable reliably?

Hi Everyone,

I own two Spypoint cameras that I love, except that I can't disable remotely. I have friends/family visit the property somewhat regularly, and it's getting annoying (for everyone) to keep reminding people to turn on/off the camera when arriving/leaving.

Best I can do remotely is set the duration between detections to the max; if I disable the camera remotely there is risk it won't work after.

Currently have the older Flex model with built in solar panel and SIM card.

Huntlink

What if planning a hunting trip away from home started with a trusted local connection?
The idea for HuntLink came from a situation I encountered personally. I wanted to hunt Elk in Alberta—or somewhere else in Western Canada—but I didn’t know any local Elk hunters who could help me understand the area, plan the trip or legally accompany me.
For Canadian non-residents hunting big game in Alberta, the regulations generally require either a licensed Hunter Host or a designated guide. Without an eligible local connection, hiring an outfitter may become the only practical option. Outfitters provide valuable professional services, but a fully outfitted hunt can be beyond the budget of many everyday hunters. Alberta’s hunting regulations explain the Hunter Host and designated-guide requirements.
That experience made me wonder how many other hunters face the same problem: the opportunity exists, and they may be willing to travel and contribute to the costs, but they don’t know the right local person.
That is the gap HuntLink is attempting to serve.
HuntLink is an early-stage bilingual platform concept intended to connect travelling hunters with local hunters, landowners, hosts and—eventually—licensed outfitters offering opportunities at different levels and price points.
A local hunter might invite someone from another province or state to join an already-planned hunt. The visiting hunter could contribute toward mutually agreed, lawful shared expenses while gaining local knowledge and access to an experience unavailable at home. The host could gain companionship, help with camp logistics or cost-sharing—provided the arrangement follows all applicable laws and does not become unlicensed guiding or outfitting.
The platform could help people explore opportunities such as:
Elk hunting in Western Canada
Québec’s Snow Goose migration and other lawful, in-season migratory waterfowl
Wild Turkey subspecies for hunters pursuing a Grand Slam
Feral Hog opportunities in areas where the animals cause agricultural or environmental damage
Waterfowl, big-game and small-game experiences outside someone’s home province or state
The larger vision is to create a kind of universal hunting-opportunity platform: one place where hunters can discover and compare everything from simple hunt-sharing arrangements to land-access opportunities and professionally outfitted trips.
Rather than searching through scattered Facebook groups, forums, outfitters’ websites and word-of-mouth contacts, hunters could explore opportunities of different sizes, budgets and experience levels in one place.
This is currently a market-research pilot, not an operating booking, guiding or outfitting service. The opportunities, hosts, ratings, prices and booking requests displayed on the site are fictional. No payments are accepted and no hunts are reserved.
I’m looking for honest input from hunters, potential hosts, landowners and outfitters:
Would a platform like this help you plan a hunt away from home?
Would you invite a compatible visiting hunter to join one of your hunts?
What would make you trust another member?
What verification, insurance and safety measures would you expect?
Should the platform include informal hunt-sharing opportunities, professional outfitters, or both?
What would represent a fair and lawful arrangement for everyone involved?
The long-term goal would be to facilitate responsible connections—not bypass hunting regulations. Every opportunity would need to comply with the licensing, Hunter Host, guiding, outfitting, land-access and wildlife rules of the jurisdiction where the hunt takes place. Those requirements can change, so participants would always need to verify the current regulations directly with the appropriate authorities.
Take a look, try a mock request and tell me what you think. Even if the original peer-to-peer concept changes, HuntLink could still become a practical place to bring hunters and legitimate hunting opportunities of every scale together.
