Got this off of eBay yesterday

Same old BS story from seller, “Selling my SX-580 receiver, can’t test as I don’t have the speaker blades”. Then what were you using then buddy. Anyway, I do have them. So got it set up and had audio on right channel but very faint on the left with a light crackle. Checked the protection fuses and left was actually missing. So bleed through from a probably shorted output transistors. Went to take off the cover and bottom plate, missing some screws. Oh joy, someone went where they shouldn’t have.

Went straight to the four output transistors to see which one wasn’t playing nice and found the bad one in 15 seconds. Replaced it, put in new fuses and it plays perfect. I was bored and because I had all the hardware I updated the amplifier and power supply boards capacitors and all transistors. Threw in a good cleaning and some new LEDs and she ready for eBay again.

Had this for a while and got around to it Friday. Got this at GW complete with box, paperwork and styrofoam. Rebuilt the power supply board (caps) and still had what appeared to be a weak motor. Disassembled, cleaned and cleaned some more and lubed with Deoxit 100. It finally came around to life and plays pretty well. Eject button switch still needs work and haven’t tried the record function yet. I have a couple of blanks I’ll get around to next weekend.

Bought this sx-680 off of eBay as is for 68.00. Had an assumption this might be my first unit that actually had a dead transformer, and apparently it does but luckily I have a spare. Plus I found someone selling all the down parts: knobs, faceplate, screws etc. so I got that coming in. Then I will get down to the nitty gritty.

Just got done with a restore in this SX-680 unit, new caps, transistors, stk modules etc. fought an issue for a bit that ended up being a bad solder joint on the mpx section. Anyways when I got it one channel had a blown stk caused by a bad paired transistor so I never got a baseline wpc. Got done and it shows about 47 wpc according to my math (19.48x19.48 / 8). But unit was originally rated around 30. Is this unusual? I’ve had units bump up a few wpc (5-7) after a good refresh but that much? Kinda new again to the scope as I hadn’t used one in about three decades. Thanks.

Just took this apart, gave it a lube job, cleaning, and a new belt plus replaced the bulbs with LEDs. Not perfect but it works.
